I’d set the world on fire to keep you warm...
They all heard it; the way the ice split, loud and dangerous in the middle of the star filled night. Agatha and Rio were already standing still, having spun halfway to the center, keeping a discreet eye on the two boys skating joyfully in the middle of the lake, Eddie spinning away from Billy in a wobbly twirl. Rio’s hand tightened on Agatha’s, making the witch focus directly on the center of the lake, her heart beating wildly in her chest.
“Teen,” she called out, her voice trembling. “Don’t fucking move!”
“Ok-kk, I wo-,” Teen disappeared in the blink of an eye, Agatha moving before she was even aware of it, plunging down below the frozen, choppy water after the boy she had come to see as a son.
Rio cursed and screamed at Alice, “I can’t interfere, it’s a life or death situation. I can only watch! Help them!”
Alice jolted into action, chanting an ancient language, placing her hands on the icy surface. Seconds felt like hours to the group when suddenly Agatha and Teen were lifted up and out, Alice’s magic pulling them to her. Jen ran to the two, throwing her jacket on Teen, Alice doing the same for Agatha. Agatha clung to Teen, who huddled closer to her, letting the fire start to warm their blue tinged fingers. Rio took a seat next to her wife, waving her hand towards the fire which roared higher in response.
Eddie, having been able to make it off the ice without issues, pulled the beanie off his head and shoved it on his boyfriends.
“Don’t you both have magic?!” Fear and worry evident in the wobble of his voice.
Agatha and Teen looked at each other, then Rio, silent before laughter mixed with tears. Rio just watched and shook her head, pleased to see the fire had almost completely dried the two of them up.
“Idiots,” she sighed fondly. Agatha wiped the tears from her cheeks, planting a kiss on Teen’s temple.
“Yeah, you idiot teenager, don’t you have magic,” her soprano voice still full of laughter. Teen blushed.
“I forgot”
“Yeah, it’s okay, I think I did too,” she giggled, releasing him to Eddie and wrapping Rio’s arms tighter around her.
“How do you forget that?!” Jen incredulously shouted, digging around in her bag, handing Alice the random item as she pulled it out.
“I mean, have you meet the two of them,” Alice giggled.
Jen nodded, “Yeah, you got a point there,” smiling in victory as she pulled out two small bottles, holding them close to the orange, flickering flames while whispering something under her breath before passing them one to Agatha before handing the remaining one to Teen.
“I didn’t need Lilia to tell me that these would come in handy, I just didn’t think it would be due to you two forgetting you had magic!” she told the two, who looked at each other before draining the bottles dry.
“Yummmm, taste like blueberries.”
“Mine taste like strawberries,” Agatha sighed, licking her lips to try and get all of the slightly stick potion.
Rio nuzzled into Agatha’s hair, “Sweetheart, are you warm enough?”
“Yes my love,” came the soft reply.
“Good, I’d hate to set the forest on fire to keep you warm, but you know I’d set the whole would on fire just so you can watch it burn.”
