Chapter 5
Logan didn’t usually sleep well, but after days like today, it was even worse. He lay awake, staring at the ceiling of his room, when he caught Morph’s scent on the other side of the door.
A soft knock came before the door opened, revealing Morph, who looked exhausted.
“Something wrong, bub?” Logan wasn’t great at comforting people, but he understood that today had been especially rough for Morph with the whole Mister Sinister ordeal. If they wanted to talk, the least Logan could do was listen.
“I can’t sleep. Can I… can I stay with you?” Morph felt embarrassed asking, like a little kid after a nightmare, but they were sure that being in the same room as Logan would at least help them feel safer.
“‘Course.” Logan lifted the blanket and shifted over, making room for them.
Morph closed the door and climbed into bed beside him.
“You didn’t see anything?” Morph asked after a moment.
“No” Logan replied honestly.
Morph curled closer to him, resting a hand softly on his arm. “I saw you… in the hallucination.”
Logan stayed quiet for a moment, recalling what Morph had said earlier. “…You told me it was Sinister”
“It was, but I also saw you.”
Why would he appear in an illusion meant to scare Morph?
“Do I scare you?” Logan asked softly, concern crossing his face.
“I think I’m scared that you won’t want to be my friend anymore. That you’ll see me differently. I know it’s silly. You didn’t hate me when I was bad, The other thing… Anything else I could do wrong seems smaller than that.”
Logan shifted slightly, draping his arm over Morph and pulling them closer. Morph hid their face against his neck.
“Even though that clone didn’t make me see anything, I’m still afraid of a lot of things. One of them is losing you again.” Logan held them firmly. “So don’t worry—you’re not getting rid of me, no matter what.”
Morph let out a soft laugh, blushing. “Get some rest, Logan.”
“You too.”
The two began drifting off, still holding each other.
And to Logan’s surprise, by morning, it had been a good night.
