Chapter 2
TEN YEARS LATER…
“Report to your stations immediately! This is not a drill! We are under attack!” came the voice from the intercom.
Two figures of a man and woman stood off to the side in the shadows, their fingers locking together in a silent attempt to bring comfort to each other.
“We are on the verge of our greatest breakthrough.” a gruff German accent spoke from the other side of the room.
“Then let’s show them what we’ve accomplished. Send out the twins.” The other gentleman commanded.
“What about- her?” The German man asked with a hint of confusion.
“No, no, she is much too valuable and uncontrollable to be let loose.” the other man shook his head, “we keep her with us, for now, send out the twins. This is what they signed up for after all.”
The two figures in the shadows were listening keenly on the conversation, there was only one thing to do, escape while everyone was busy with the chaos of the attack. First, they had to make a quick stop to the cells down below the castle. The man and woman were pleased to find that there weren’t as many guards guarding the cells due to the chaos above, the few guards that remained the woman used her ability to mess with people’s minds to distract the guards.
Once they were taken care of, the two made it to the furthest cell back, punching in the code to unlock the door. Inside the glass paned cell, a girl with long black hair sat hugging her knees to her chest. At the sound of the door she looked up, her eyes were violet with flecks of gold.
“We have to go, now.” the man said in his native tongue, reaching out his hand for the girl to take.
She hesitantly stood up, caution displayed vividly across her face. “It’s not a trick maly tien, we’re finally escaping.” The woman’s green eyes showed kindness and familiar trust. With the reassurance from the woman, the teenage looking girl took the man's hand and with a whoosh they sped off.
His inhuman speed allowed them to get by almost undetected. They whooshed out from the underground exit, through the tunnel and out into the woods. The man stopped once he felt they were a good distance from the base, he steadied the girl with a chuckle as she swayed a little from the sudden stop.
“Stay in the woods, wait for one of us to come find you. If you hear anyone, hide.” he softly commanded. The girl wordlessly nodded, though she began shivering from the cold. “I’ll be right back.” the man vanished in the blink of an eye, and all too soon it seemed, returned with a large jacket in his hands.
“Put this on, kvet. Can’t have you freezing to death on us.” he sent her a playful wink. The girl smiled as she took the jacket and put it on, once she zipped it up the man took off into the woods. The girl sat herself on a thick large tree stump as she waited for the people she thought of as brother and sister to return for her. And so she waited… And waited… they’d come back, they’d never leave her behind right…?
