Chapter 3
FOUR MONTHS LATER…
“With the aftermath of Sokovia there are still some hidden HYDRA agents and soldiers out there, our main target is Baron Von Strucker. We have reason to believe he and the remainder of his supporters are hiding in an underground facility outside the capital.” Steve Rogers reported from his end of the long conference table.
“We’ll infiltrate with a small group, Furys orders. Nat, Clint, and Wanda you’re with me. Tony, Bruce and Thor will stay in New York. Any questions?”
“Yeah, I got one star spangled banner. How come Fury’s keeping the three most valuable team members here? I for one know jolly green giant would be the most useful out of us for a mission like this.” Tony argued from the other end of the table, he always liked being the head of the table.
“Fury’s orders Stark, I don’t question them, I just follow them.” Steve refrained from rolling his eyes, Howard Stark’s son was such a man child it annoyed him to no end. Of course, he did take after his father so the super soldier shouldn’t be too surprised by his behavior.
“We gear up and meet at the jet in thirty.” The meeting was dismissed. On his way out Steve heard someone calling his name, he turned around and saw Wanda approaching him with a worried look in her eyes. “Everything alright kid?” Obviously she wasn’t that much younger than his physical age, but given the era he was born in, that old fashioned dialogue would just slip out.
“Do- do you really want me to come with you…?” She picked nervously at her cardigan sleeves.
“I do.” Steve assured her, he checked the hall to make sure they were completely alone before speaking again. “I know losing Pietro has been hard on you, but you can’t let the grief consume you. He wouldn’t have wanted that. Besides, you more than anyone know how Strucker works. With your powers you’ll be able to help us get in easier, I have faith in you Wanda.”
Wanda looked at him with shiny green eyes at the mention of her beloved twin brother, who was fatally shot in an act of heroism. “Thank you, Steve. For everything.”
He smiled, “everyone deserves a second chance Wanda, it’s just up to them whether they want it or not.” with that he walked away toward his room to get geared up and ready for their mission.
Wanda went back to her room to change as well, though her suit wasn’t much except her favorite black dress, red jacket, her gloves and boots. But for her, it allowed her to move more swiftly. As she made her way down to the indoor landing platform she began to think not just about her brother, but the girl who she thought of as a little sister. She tried several times to search for her but then everything with Ultron happened and Steve taking her under his wing and back to New York it was all so overwhelming.
And after the destruction of Sokovia she believed the girl to be dead, or worse, Pietro never did find her after he tried to go back for her, they just assumed HYDRA got to her first. Now not only did she mourn for her twin and other half but also for the girl who she vowed to look after and protect all those years ago.
