Chapter 2

That night at the raft, Roderick Kingsley was absentmindedly reading a book in his private cell, far away from the rest of the inmates. Perks of being the richest man in the prison. His reading was, however, interrupted by a sound from the shadows of his cell. He turned his head to get a look and immediately felt a hand around his throat.

“Roderick, Roderick, Roderick,” The Green Goblin sighed, dropping Kingsley onto his bed.

“The cover band’s never as good as the original,” Norman mocked, pulling off his mask and staring Kingsley down. Roderick’s eyes widened in shock as he realized this was the genuine artifact.

“Osborn? I thought you were dead!”

“And I would have been satisfied to leave it at that,” Norman snarled. “But now I have to make my presence known here once again. Because of what you and the Spider did to my son.”

“That wasn’t my fault! Spider-Man was the one he was fighting!”

Norman chuckled. “I know. Which is why I’m giving you a chance. I know you and Harry found out his identity. Tell me his name and I won't kill you for leading my son to his death.”

“That’s it?” Roderick asked softly. “Alright. Spider-Man’s name…is Peter Parker.”

Norman’s eyes widened at the mention of that name. “It can’t be,” he whispered.

“I saw it with my own eyes. Your son’s worst enemy was also his best friend.”

“It all makes sense now,” Norman whispered. “No wonder he could always get such great photos of Spider-Man. He is Spider-Man!”

“Glad to be of help. Now, if that’s all…” Roderick began. He trailed off as he watched Norman press a button on his gauntlet. Down the hallway flew his glider, blasting open the door to Roderick’s cell. Norman pulled his mask back on as he hopped back onto his vehicle, tossing a pumpkin bomb into Kingsley’s cell.

“What-You said you would let me live!” Roderick shouted.

“I said I wouldn’t kill you for what you did to my son. I’m not. I’m killing you for stealing my gimmick!” Green Goblin laughed as he flew away. Roderick dove for the outside of his cell but wasn’t fast enough. There was a large green explosion that shook the whole prison as he was blown to smithereens.

The next morning, Gwen Stacy peered into a cardboard box in her room as she sorted through her mementos. Pictures of her, Peter, and Harry. Her old glasses from before she started wearing contacts. She smiled as she came across the pepper spray her dad had given her for her fifteenth birthday. Benefits of being a police captain’s daughter. As she was about to put it back, there was an explosion of broken glass as her window was smashed through. She clutched the pepper spray in her fist as she whirled around just in time for a purple glove to grab her by the arm and pull her onto his glider.

“Guess who’s back!” Green Goblin cackled as they flew away. Gwen shoved the pepper spray into her pocket as zoomed through the air. She couldn’t use it now or they would both crash. But despite her terror, she kept an eye on the Goblin. She would get a chance soon. She only hoped it was before more people died.
