Chapter 3
Peter happily walked into the Daily Bugle, pictures in hand as he made his way towards Jameson’s office. Hopefully for the last time. Now that he was quitting superheroics and graduated, he could finally get an actual job. As he walked towards Jonah, the mustached man was yelling into his phone as usual.
“I don’t care how much traffic there is! Rollerblade there if you have to! I’m not letting the Globe beat us on this one!”
“Uh, boss?” Peter asked, holding up his pictures. Jonah snatched them out of his hand.
“Miss Brant can give you your money like usual. I’m sure these photos will go nicely on page 6,” he murmured, turning back to his phone.
“Page 6? Come on Jonah, you’ve put worse on the front page!” Peter said.
“Yeah, well the front page is reserved this time. Somebody blew up Roderick Kingsley!”
“WHAT?!” Peter shouted.
“Yeah, that was my reaction,” Jonah said. “Witnesses say the Green Goblin was sighted flying away from the scene. Guess he doesn't like sharing the glider. Anyway, I suppose I can have the photos moved to-”
He turned from his phone to see Peter was gone. “Parker?” he called. “Don’t you want your money?”
Peter rushed down the stairwell of the building, his phone in his hand as he dialed Gwen’s number.
“Gwen?!” he shouted as his call was picked up. “Gwen, you need to stay somewhere safe. There’s another Green Goblin-”
“Not another,” the voice on the other end said with a malicious giggle. “The original!”
“Osborn?” he whispered. “What did you do to her?”
In response, Gwen’s voice came over the line. “Peter! It’s a trap! Don’t come! He-”
The phone was yanked away from her mouth as The Goblin began speaking again. “She’s unharmed for now. Just waiting on you at the bridge of the first president. With the same question on everyone’s mind: Can the Spider-Man come out to play?”
The call ended as Peter stood frozen on the steps. Norman Osborn was alive. And he had Gwen. He had to find them fast. What was it Osborn had said? The bridge of the first president? He had to have been talking about the George Washington bridge. Peter ran to May’s house faster than he ever had before to get his costume. He knew the Goblin. He wouldn’t hurt Gwen unless Peter was there to see it. But if he did, that would be the worst mistake of his life.
