If there is light there will be shadows. For Sam his shadow was forced upon him by the very person whom he instilled his full trust in. Steve. That man had handed him a shield and with that responsibility also gave him a shadow, James Buchanan Barnes. The old Sargent, ex-assassin, guy with a staring problem is exactly what you’d expect from a shadow. He’s dark and brooding, he seems to follow Sam where ever he goes, commenting of every little thing. But to Bucky, Sam is the sun. He is everything bright. When Steve had left, again, Bucky was left with nothing. He had no family, no friends, that was until Sam. Sam was his first, post-assassin, friend. Sam gave him recommendations of things, from this century, to learn about. They watched shows and movies together, listened to music. Sam shone so bright it broke through the barriers of the shadow that is Bucky Barnes. Bucky never thought he’d be able to have this, his whole life he had been taught that love was shared between a girl and boy. He had loved a boy, once, but he hid it deep down. He was, is, different. Sam knew who he was from a young age, his family knew it too. They loved him no matter what. Sam helped Bucky realize he was loved as well, Bucky hadn’t felt that way in a long, long time. For in the end, light will always have a shadow, and that shadow will follow the light forever.
