In the future
The following day
Naruto woke up slightly earlier than usual. He didn't know what was happening to him, but he felt a sharp pain in his back. He hoped that it wasn't anything too serious, so got up and made his way to the bathroom to get ready for school. His friends stayed over tonight, but they didn't gather in the living room under a bunch of blankets this time. Hinata took the room across the hall from Naruto, Shikamaru and Chouji took the other two empty rooms that were upstairs. Once he was finished getting dressed, he made his way downstairs to meet his friends who had been up for a few minutes now.
Naruto took a seat at the table, trying to ease his way down. While he was getting ready, he kept felting a sharp pain from his side, it would alternate from left to right every now and then. He didn't know what that was about, it felt something was lightly stabbing him from the inside, he rubbed his stomach gingerly, "I'm too tired for all of this."
"What's the matter, Naru-chan?" Chouji asked as he placed a plate of hot pancakes in front of the pregnant blond.
"It's nothing, I've just been feeling these sharp pains in my side since I woke up," Naruto replied.
"Oh, yeah?" Shikamaru looked up from his breakfast, "do you think it's bad enough to go see the doctor?"
Naruto shook his head, "no, not really. It's probably nothing, maybe just how I slept."
"If you say so," Shikamaru picked up his cup of orange juice. "Just let us know if it gets too much, alright?" Naruto agreed and started on his breakfast, once everyone was finished eating, they gathered their stuff and left the house for the academy. On the way there, they talked about everything that happened to them over the weekend. When they reached the academy building, they entered their classroom and took their usual seats.
Naruto had his disguise firmly in place, his curly honey curls were pulled up in a messy bun. He didn't feel that there was anything to worry about while he was here since no one suspected him. Though he was careful with how he dressed, a simple blue dress that came down below his knees and a yellow oversized cardigan to wrap around his midsection as needed. He cared his books in front of himself to hide his stomach as well, he didn't want anyone to know that he was pregnant either. There were only two months until summer vacation, he was hoping to last that long so that when he did have the twins, he wouldn't have to come back to school right away or have to miss class because he was recovering.
Naruto prepared his books and pencils for class. Hinata turned to him, "you remembered to bring your Chakra Theories textbook this time, right?"
Naruto nodded, "yeah, I did, I had packed my back last night to make sure." While those two were talking, Sasuke came up to them, he didn't care what they were talking about as he came right up to their desk. Sasuke slammed his hand onto the desk, startling Mia, she turned to him and looked him in the eye with an air of annoyance. "Uh, Sasuke, is there something that I can help you with?"
"Hn, you can tell me why you hang out with these plebs? You could be hanging out with me instead," Sasuke replied with a straight face.
Mia raised an eyebrow, "uh, first of all, if that's your way of asking to be friends, I just want to let you know that I'm not impressed."
"Who said I wanted to be your friend?" Sasuke smirked, "you can be my girlfriend though."
Mia refrained from throwing up in her mouth, "no thanks, I would rather drink hot sauce and milk in a bowl of ashes. No offense."
"None was taken," Sasuke replied, he stood up and put his hands in his pockets.
There wasn't much Mia could do about Sasuke's failing attempt to get her to go out with him. She supposed that she could just keep turning him down until he got the message, but there was no guarantee that was going to happen any time soon. Then again, there's no telling when Sasuke would get the point, "um, so, is there anything else that you need, or did you just come over here to make small talk?"
"Hn, why don't you just go out with me?" Sasuke asked, his confidence was overwhelming, "there's a restaurant I like to go to on sunny days like this that makes really good food. You should come with me this evening after school."
Mia blinked her eyes for a moment, "uh, let me think about it for a second..." she pretended to think about his offer. The look on Sasuke's face when she said that made him feel even more confident. Hinata, Shikamaru, and Chouji watched as Mia turned her attention back to Sasuke, "there's no way." She said suddenly as she pretended to search for something in her bag, "I have somewhere to be after school today. You can find someone else to go in my place, can't you? I know you have tones of girls lining up for a chance to go out with you."
Sasuke grunted, he did not like the sound of that. Although it was true that he didn't have a shortage of girls practically begging for a date with him, he was expecting a different answer from her. Unlike the other girls in their class, Mia was one of the girls who didn't give him the time of day. She didn't squeal and gawk at him as if he were some kind of animal on display. One of the reasons why he liked her was also because she showed her brain in class, outdoing Sakura by a mile in his book. "Hn, maybe that's what you think, but I would much rather go out with you. You have a certain charm about you that outshines the rest."
Mia twisted her lips into an unimpressed frown, "yeah, I bet. But, you see Sasuke, I don't want to hurt your feelings, but I just have to say that you are really not my type."
"What does that have to do with anything?" Sasuke didn't see her point.
Mia rolled her eyes, she was about to say something else, but Iruka walked in with Mizuki training him. At some point in time, Mia had stopped registering Sasuke's advances as she advanced in class, but Sasuke couldn't seem to get the picture even though this was not the first time that Mia turned him down without hesitation. Shikamaru and Chouji chuckled as Iruka called for everyone to take their seats, and since all of the seats next to Mia were already taken, Sasuke forced to head back to his own in the front of the class. "See ya later, Sasuke," Hinata giggled watching the Uchiha walk back to his seat in defeat.
"Alright, everyone please take out your Chakra Theory textbooks, make sure to turn to chapter forty-five. We are going to pick up where we left off in last week's class," Iruka announced as he started writing on the chalkboard. As the class went on, Naruto ignored Sasuke's earlier advances to focus on what Iruka was teaching. That might have been why he didn't notice when Sasuke would look back at him every now and then during the lecture.
After school, Shikamaru, Chouji, and Hinata walked with Hinata to the front of the gate as usual. Naruto still had work to get to, so there was no time for him to be going out on dates right now. Not that he wanted to in the first place. Shikamaru left to go back to his home to check in with his parents, he was mostly worried about the dinner they would be attending tonight, he wanted to make sure that they wouldn't try anything. Chouji also left to go home as well since he felt that he should also check in with his mother, which left Hinata to walk Naruto to the library.
The duo talked about random things as they walked, having an easy conversation. When they were halfway to the library, they both noticed that they were being followed. Hinata used kept walking to make it seem like they didn't notice, she activated her dojutsu to see behind them. "Do you see who it is?" Naruto asked curiously.
Hinata nodded, "yeah," she said with a frown as she turned off her bloodline, "it's just Sasuke," she said.
"Oh...seriously?" Naruto asked, Hinata nodded, "damn, that's okay I guess."
"Are you sure?" Hinata asked skeptically.
Naruto nodded, "yeah, as long as he doesn't disturb me while I'm at work, it should be fine." They reached the library, Naruto went up the front steps and waved goodbye to Hinata before she left. He walked inside and said hello to his supervisor as he got to work sorting through the books that had been returned earlier that day. As he worked, he didn't notice when Sasuke walked into the building. He made his way through the rows of bookshelves putting back books and checking the computers that were scattered around the library. He was busy enough that he didn't notice or care about Sasuke's presence there.
It was getting later in the evening when Naruto finally took a break, he was sitting at one of the desks near the window reading a book. He was allowed thirty minutes to an hour of break time before he was back on the clock. It was a fairly early job to do, and he didn't mind the fact that he had to lift a few things, as long as they were no heavier than a thick textbook. Shikamaru made it very clear to his boss that he was not allowed to lift anything very heavy, he also got Filo to fill out a form stating as such. It was a little embarrassing, but since Shikamaru was only doing so because he cared about him, he was able to overlook it.
It was also better than having Hinata apply for a position there so she could shadow him to make sure nothing happened. Naruto did love the fact that his friends cared for him, but that might have been a little too much for him to handle. Although he would admit that it wouldn't have been too bad if the two of them could work together. Naruto turned the page of the book he was reading when he felt a presence come up behind him, assuming that it was someone trying to get some help in looking for a book, he put on his best customer service smile as he turned around.
"Yes, how-uh," Mia paused to look up at Sasuke, "oh, Sasuke, what are you doing here so late?" She asked politely without sounding annoyed or slightly creeped out at all.
Sasuke walked around to the side of the table and leaned on it with the same smirk as before on his face. "I was just in the neighborhood and wanted to stop by, that's all. But since you don't seem to be doing anything right now, would you like to go on that date with me now, we can make it in time for dinner. I know that places also look beautiful during the full moon."
"Uh, yeah, no," Mia shook her head, she glanced over at the clock that was hung on the wall a few meters behind Sasuke. "It's actually time for me to get back to work," with that, she ended the conversation to walk over to the front desk. Her supervisor would be going on break right about now, so she would need to be at the front desk to create the other patriots of the library. Or so she thought, when she made it up to the front of the library and took her seat behind the front desk just as her supervisor was getting up from her seat, Sasuke appeared. Again. "I'll take over for you while you're on your break," she said trying to ignore Sasuke for a moment.
Mia's supervisor, Lin, noticed Sasuke right away. "Sasuke? What a surprise to see you here, are you looking for something in particular?" She asked standing up from her chair, she barely registered Mia's words at all.
Mia frowned, "it figures that she would be one of Sasuke's fans too, thankfully she's too old to try to be his girlfriend or anything. Then again, I heard that some older ladies liked to be called Cougars or something." She thought as she looked between Lin and Sasuke, the Uchiha seemed to be a little annoyed to have someone interrupt his advances. Mia didn't mind though, if Lin could keep him busy for a while, then it would be all the better for her.
Then again, Sasuke decided to turn this negative into a positive, at least, that was the advice that his second therapist gave to him. "No, not really, I was actually here to ask my classmate something. But since she seems to be busy right now, I might have to just wait until she's finished."
"Busy?" Lin looked down at Mia then back to Sasuke, "oh no, not at all! Mia isn't busy in the slightest!" This surprised the girl a bit, Mia looked up at her supervisor to see she had the brightest smile she had ever seen on the woman's face ever since she started working here. Mia could tell that whatever was about to happen next was not going to be to her liking. "In fact," Lin turned to Mia and lifted her out of the seat, placing her hands on her shoulders as if to present her to Sasuke, "she was actually about to get off early for the night. I've noticed how focused she ha been on her work, and her schoolwork shows how smart she is. I think it would be great for the two of you to get closer!"
Mia turned her head slightly to see her supervisor's face from the corner of her eye, "but Miss, I still have another hour and a half before the end of my shift."
Lin nodded, "yes, I know, but as I said, you've been working really hard lately, dear. How can I allow such a pretty, young, intelligent girl like yourself to waste her youth away on just work? You should go with Sasuke and have some fun tonight." Lin then leaned in closer to her ear and whispered, "besides, you should learn to enjoy yourself before that baby pops out of you. Then you really won't have time for yourself."
Mia could see that she was not going to win this argument with her against Sasuke, so she gave up. "Fine, let me just get my stuff from the back," she said picking up the book she had been reading earlier.
"Glad to hear it, darling!" Lin sang happily.
Sasuke smirked, "cool, I'll meet you at the door," he turned away and walked off, waving goodbye to Lin as he did.
Lin released Mia's shoulders after he walked away, "oooh this is so exciting! You're way better than all those other girls that try to run after poor little Sasuke. He should be with someone with class, someone who has some self-respect and knows how to act in front of a guy." She laughed in triumph, "haha, I can't wait to tell those old hags at book club about this glorious endeavor that I was able to set up. In fact, why wait? I'll call them all up right now!" As quickly as the thought popped into her head, Lin whipped out her cellphone and dialed some numbers before walking off as she waited for the phone to stop ringing. A short second later, Mia heard Lin happily talking to someone on the phone, "ah, ChiChi, you will never believe what just happened!"
The woman's conversation trailed off as she got further away from the front desk. Mia watched her go before turning back to the desk, thinking quickly, she sat down and picked up her bag from under the desk where she hides it. Then she picked up the receiver for the landline for the library and dialed Shikamaru's house number, it rang a few times before the sound of Shikamaru's voice came through the phone, "hello?" He said, he sounded tired, meaning that he must have just been woken up from a nice nap.
"Shika, listen to me carefully, Sasuke followed me to the library and is trying to take me out to dinner." Mia whispered into the phone so Lin couldn't hear her, "there's a restaurant he's trying to take me to, he said that it looked really beautiful in the day and the moonlight. Do you know of any places like that?"
When Shikamaru's voice came through the phone again, Mia could tell that he was wide awake now. "There's only one place that I know like that, it's called 'SkyLight Forest Cafe'." He went quiet for a moment, to think, Mia assumed, "hang on, I'll call Hinata and Chouji. We'll come to pick you up from there, just make sure he doesn't try anything on you. If he does, tell me."
"I'll do my best," Mia replied, she didn't know what Sasuke was thinking about doing, but if he did try anything with her, she would wish him good luck. If Sasuke were to make Mia uncomfortable in any way, she was sure that Shikamaru, Hinata, and Chouji would do whatever they could to get revenge on him. Since Mia was currently almost in her seventh month, she couldn't do much against physical advances, but she hoped that her friends could come to her aid soon.
"Good, we'll see you soon," Shikamaru hung up the phone after that.
Mia put the receiver down and pulled her bag onto her shoulder while clutching her books to her chest. She was starting to get a little worried about going with Sasuke, but it wasn't like she could run very far to escape him. Not to mention that the back entrance to the library made a lot of noise as it doubled as the fire exit, which meant making a sneaky escape from there was out of the question. The second-floor windows were also locked just in case of people trying to sneak in, but there was a safety lock that would make the glass easy to kick out in case of a fire.
It seemed that whoever designed the building was keen on giving people options on how to escape a hot death.
Without any other options on her side, Mia got up and walked over to the front door nervously. "Guys, please hurry up and come for me," she thought before opening the door and walking out. She disliked being around people she was uncomfortable with, even though Sasuke was a classmate, she got a bad vibe from him that made her worry.
