Names and Meanings
KonohaAnbuInu should not have been so popular.
Maybe, just maybe, if it wasn't, Kakashi would not have to worry about choosing a hero name.
It all started on a simple question.
"What hero name do you plan to have? You need one for the internship."
It was a simple question, a throwaway one even. His father had asked so casually, throwing the question at Kakashi before returning to his meal.
This simple question leads to Kakashi realising he doesn't have any decent hero names.
The simplest one would have been Inu, a name he had used for years. The problem had been the fact that it could lead to people thinking of him being a fanboy of his own internet persona, and Kakashi has nothing to do with dogs.
Nothing to do with dogs now, he would have to change that later.
The next name could have been Hokage, a title he had held after the Fourth War. Again, the internet persona fanboy problem.
Then there is Hatake, which would most likely be shot down by his father. His father would not have people giving him the nickname Scarecrow if he can help it.
Any other ideas he had were already posted in some material on KonohaAnbuInu.
At this point he might as well name himself after the Sage of Six paths.
"Ignite. I chose the name ignite since," Bakugou paused. Kakashi wonders whether or not the boy would continue, if it was pre-genjutsu he might have. The blond took a deep breath, "I am the only one who can ignite my quirk, the one who causes the amount of power use."
Ah.
It appears Kakashi had not failed Naruto's legacy, seeing as how Bakugou is changing. Slowly, but still changing.
Kakashi counts it as a win.
Midnight seems surprised at the explanation, before moving on to the next presenter. Her smile appears more vicious than Kakashi remembers as she snaps her whip close to him.
"Your turn, Kamihara."
Kakashi walks towards the front, painfully slow, dragging it out to make it more suspenseful.
Once in the front, he scans the whole room, not showing his card yet. He wants to savour the moment, mentally memorising everything, especially everyone's reaction.
"The name that I chose means something to me." Not a lie, it truly means something to him. Whether it was good or not is left unsaid and depends on the situation.
Without letting everyone process his words, Kakashi showed the name written.
The reactions are glorious.
Half of the class are confused. Eyes wide, lips parted, unable to tell if they were reading it right.
A few of the class, Iida, Midoriya, even Bakugou and Shouto, along with Midnight are trying to figure out the connection between the name he had chosen and himself.
Bakugou was gritting his teeth, eyes flashing as he thought hard. His fists are clenched, showing his desire to punch Kakashi.
Midoriya was muttering something under his breath really fast, his hand rapidly writing something on a notebook he hurriedly pulled out of his bag. Kakashi caught a few words, letting him know that the boy is making theories.
He can see Iida looking as if his life had been nothing but a genjutsu, trying to find a clue on anything that can prove something .
Midnight was no better, struggling to find a clue on the name's relevance to Kakashi. She looks like she might snap in any minute.
On the side, Kakashi can see his students' reactions, which were just as bad as the others.
Fumikage appears catatonic. Eyes glazed, face completely blank. His whole body was immobile.
Denki is in tears. The boy had just been let out of the hospital, but it looks like he needs to go back. The way his eyes were red, his lips pale, and his quirk almost out of control. His whole body is also shaking.
And Shouto was staring. He seems to be in a deep thought, as if he had an epiphany.
Then the dual-colored teen looks him in the eye. The next words that came out made Kakashi's masked grin fall.
"I got it! You're either an alien or a plant! You must be some sort of alien plant!"
No.
This does not make any sense.
Of all the names Izuku thought Kamihara would choose, it was not this.
It does not even fit, and has no semblance towards Kamihara.
Unless….
Before Izuku realised it, he had already wrote down a series of theories, muttering the likelihood under his breath
Did Kamihara have some sort of mutation?
Is that why he has powers vastly different from Edgeshot?
Did he choose that name to come clean to the whole class?
Izuku has questions!
Is Kamihara, a, a, a BAMBOO!?
That doesn't make sense. Nothing makes sense. Everything feels wrong yet at the same time Izuku feels like the bamboo theory is the only thing he has that would actually stick.
"The name that I chose means something to me."
It was an absurd theory, but if Kamihara's words are literal then…
No. Too little to go on with. Maybe he is thinking too hard. Surely, something like this cannot be true?
Izuku barely knows Kamihara, barely understands the quirk the ninja has.
He is thinking too deeply.
"I got it! You're either an alien or a plant! You must be some sort of alien plant!"
Alien plant.
An alien plant.
Todoroki had declared that Kamihara is an alien plant. Todoroki had declared that Kamihara is an alien plant.
If it had been before, back when the Sports festival had yet to happen, Izuku would have dismissed such an idea. Even if Todoroki is closer to Kamihara does not mean his theories are correct.
And then Kamihara turned out to be Edgeshot's son like Todoroki claimed.
Izuku caught the rest of the class, staring at Todoroki like he had claimed to be All Might.
They all think he lost it.
But Izuku knows better. He knows that if Todoroki says it, then that means it is most likely true.
Izuku turned to look at Kamihara-the-bamboo-alien-who-just-revealed-his-secret. He looks surprised and confused, odd considering that Kamihara barely shows emotions.
Another point that proves Todoroki is right. Kamihara must be feeling this since the rest of the class does not believe him.
Well then, Izuku would make the class see the truth.
"Don't worry, Kamihara-san. They would come around. Being a bamboo alien must have been hard on you, now you have Todoroki-kun, the class once they stop doubting, and I will help you."
He smiles, seeing Kamihara staring at him in disbelief. It seems like he has his work cut out for him, if even Kamihara does not think anyone but Todoroki would realise.
Humming to himself, Izuku started making plans, completely oblivious to the fact that Kamihara was in disbelief for another reason.
As Izuku reached out to grab his pen, he inadvertently caught the sight of the name that caused the whole reveal.
