Chapter 12

“I don’t know...I just found her laying on my bed when I got home…” You hear someone say.

“I’ll be right there.” A more muted, audio-like voice said.

You slowly opened your eyes. The pain from the blinding light earlier hadn’t disappeared

“Wait, hold on, don’t hang up yet, she’s waking up…” Shortly after that, repeated beeps sounded.

“Ugh, he hung up,” You heard the person mutter.

You slowly sat up, causing a headache.

You blinked open, your half-lidded eyes looked into dark blue ones.

“Who are you?” You yawned.

He stayed silent.

It took you about a minute to finally gather yourself. When you did, and your mind was clearer, and your eyes widened at the figure that stands in front of you.

His black hair, his dark blue eyes, his bedroom, his outfit, everything…

“KAGEYAMA?!” You shouted.

“AHHH!” He flinched.

“Aye, I almost forgot. I’m traveling to different worlds.” You muttered. An image appeared in your head. It was you and your family...you needed to get back to them.

“What did you sa--”

“Sorry, but I need to be going.” You said.

“How do you know my na--”

“Look, I’m in a difficult situation right now. I need to be going.” You said sternly.

The seriousness in your face startled Kageyama. He wasn’t used to talking to girls, well, he’s sorta bad at communicating overall.

You walked over to the bedroom door. You glanced at Kageyama. He looked at you, showing his usual expression. You looked around the room. The room was basic and plain. It looked...boring…

“You should try to add more decorations to your room. Make it more…comfortable and cozy.” You said, as you continued to let your eyes wander around the area.
His eyes widened, stars showed in his pupils, and his mouth opened a little. His expression was priceless. He looked like a child being praised by an adult.

“You okay?” You asked.

“Yea, I’m fine.” He said, returning back to normal.

“Right, then I'll be on my way!” You said.

Just as you were about to turn the doorknob, the door flung open, causing you to flinch and jump back.

“I tried to get here as fast as I cou--” Hinata said, but then stopped when he looked at you.

“Ah, did we scare you? We apol...o..gi--” Daichi started as he catched up with Hinata, but then trailed off when he looked your way.

“What? You guys seemed shocked. What is it?” You hear another voice say.

A second later, you found Sugawara peering over Daichi’s shoulder. His eyes widened at the sight of you.

“Ah, I see now.” Sugawara said.

“You guys okay? Kageyama, I think we need to call an ambulance…” You said, unsure of what was happening.

“Ah, we’re sorry, and no, we won’t be needing an ambulance, thank you very much.” Daichi said, quickly glancing over his shoulders at Suga.

“Why are you two here? I only asked for Hinata?” Kageyama asked.

“Oh, well, we aren’t too experienced in these kinds of things, so I decided to ask Daichi-san and Sugawara-san to come.”

“What do you mean by that? Are you saying we’re experienced?” Daichi asked, his cheeks grew rose pink.

“Uh...basically, yea.” Hinata replied innocently.

“Ok, so when was the last time you saw me with a girl?” Daichi asked, refusing to let Hinata say such things.

“Uh, like earlier today?”

“That was because she needed help on something! That doesn’t count!” Daichi shouted.

You saw Hinata’s eyes water. It was awful seeing him cry, and seeing him cry in person was much worse than seeing him on screen. Your eyes started to water at the sight of him.

You instinctively ran over to Hinata and kneeled down to give him a huge hug.

“Huh?!” You hear everyone say, except for Hinata.

Hinata dug his face into your breast. You didn’t mind, though. To you, Hinata was like a child. His naive thoughts, childish actions, his optimism and spirit for every volleyball game–and height...everything about him- was like a child.

Daichi, who always seemed to be the “nice one,” seemed to be a lot different than you had expected. It almost seemed like he’s the one who gets angry and upset easily.

“Why did you yell at him?” You said, looking at Daichi.

Knowing the Daichi that was on screen, you were expecting sorrowful and apologetic looks from Daichi, but instead, you only saw an expression that screamed anger and…something else...you couldn’t quite make out what he was trying to express. You glanced at Suga. His expression was almost identical to Daichi’s...and Kageyama...his expression was worse than the both.

You were suddenly frightened.

Why? Come to think of it, all of the characters in every anime so far, were acting differently. Each and every single one. What was it that caused all the trouble? ...Was it you? It could be the only possible explanation that you could think of. The way you were holding Hinata, and that you were the only girl in the room...hugging Hinata...wait, that wasn’t good. The three continued to look at you with such indescribable faces, they were barely blinking, and they refused to let go of their deathly glare. Your instincts told you to run before it was too late.

Too late for what? Why are you thinking this way?

You grabbed Hinata’s hand, and dragged him behind you as you tried to push Daichi out of the way.

He wouldn’t budge.

“Tch, tch, what are you doing…princess?” You hear Daichi’s voice. Wait, did that voice belong to Daichi’s? You must be hearing things. Daichi would never act like that. He’s far too kind to act like this. What’s going on?

You slowly looked up, to find a Daichi you did not recognize. One with an evil smirk, eyes filled with…you weren’t sure, but the pair of dark brown eyes stared into your eyes, his eyes were filled with content, and…and…what was it?! He looked like a demon sent from the underworld and took the disguise of a human.

“Daichi…is this…really you?” you quietly muttered.

When those few words slipped out of your mouth, you regretted it.

Shock rose up into his eyes, but then disappeared a second later.

Instantaneously, Daichi walked forward, pushing you backwards with his chest. Everything happened so fast. You noticed that because of the sudden movement, your hand was separated from Hinata’s. Before you knew it, Daichi had pushed you up against the nearest wall, and you were trapped in between his arms. His head was down looking at you, eyes were locked to your’s.

You’ve seen a couple romance movies, and read a few books. Apparently, this position that you were in was supposed to be breathtaking and exciting.

You didn’t find it breathtaking nor exciting.

Were you supposed to?

You were horror-struck, the fact that you couldn’t read what was behind Daichi’s eyes, and that he was both taller and stronger than you. This puts you at a disadvantage. His head loomed above you, demonic eyes stared delightfully into your’s.

“What do you think you’re doing?!” You hear Hinata shout.

Thanks to Kageyama's quick actions, he pulled Daichi away from you.

Daichi’s glare became as intense as ever.

“No, what do YOU think YOU’RE doing?! We were having a moment.” Daichi yelled.

You were surprised, still petrified and confused, but somewhat relieved.

You quickly looked around, trying to find an escape. You saw an open window to your right.

‘Perfect,’ you thought.

“Why did you do that? She is still a human being! Why are you acting like this?” You heard Hinata yell back.

Once you heard his voice, you started feeling bad.

You wanted to take Hinata with you. It wasn’t his problem to be involved. How did you even end up in this situation? Agh! You had to find a way to convince Soranagi to take you back before this whole thing becomes worse than it already is.

As if then, the best choice was probably to focus on yourself. They were, afterall, fictional characters. You still had no idea if you should consider these characters “real,” or not…or if any of this was real. Who knows? You may be lucid dreaming right now, and when you wake up, all this would be over…no…but it felt too real to be true. No. No. No. This is totally a dream. Just survive today in this ‘dream,’ and you’ll be awake soon.

Dreams can’t hurt you. So you won’t get hurt. Right? This has to all be a dream.

As the three continued to argue, you slowly headed to the window on your right. You quickly looked back at the three, who were too focused on arguing. Then your eyes landed on Suga. He was wearing the same cold stare you received minutes ago.

His eyes were focused on you.

‘Ah shoot.’ You thought.

You were hoping to get away unnoticed.

Since you were so close to the window, you planned to jump out immediately if anyone noticed you or tried to catch you, then run for your life.

There you went, following the simple plan. You jumped out quietly, though you knew the Suga saw you, you didn’t want the other three to notice. With the body of Daichi’s, and the training Hinata’s and Kageyama’s been doing, they could catch up to you in the matter of minutes– perhaps in seconds.

As if a hungry tiger was chasing you, you ran like your life depended on it. You didn’t know where you were headed, nor did you care. Not at the moment. You just continued to run forward, if there was a right turn you would take it, assuming that it was going to lead you to a safe and secured place.

After your adrenaline ran out, you slowed down to a walking pace. You instinctively looked back behind you to see if anyone was following you. After you felt confident that no one was following you, your mind cleared up. You started thinking about reality, and how you were going to get out of here. You started thinking where you should be headed now, where you should stay for the night.

You looked around, finding yourself in a neighborhood. The area was rather quiet, and the streetlights were lit up. You looked down at your…sneakers this time? You stopped walking to look at your outfit. You were wearing a school uniform for girls…which included a dark blue skirt that barely goes down halfway to your thighs.

You weren’t okay with any of this.

You weren’t used to wearing such revealing clothes.

Gosh, how do other people in this anime get comfortable with these?

What, are the teachers here all perverts?

The uniform did came with long, black socks that went up to the end of your thighs, so suppose that is a positive feature to your outfit.

You wondered which school the uniform belonged to. As you walked down the alley, you spotted a bench under the streetlights. You walked over to it, and sat down. You looked up to the sky. You weren’t sure what time it was, but you assumed it was past nine o’clock.

You weren’t sure where to go now. You didn’t have a phone on you, nor did you have money to buy anything.

Feeling bored, you thought back to the events that occurred. You thought back to Suga. He saw you escape, why didn’t he tell the others? He was quiet during the “moment” between you and Daichi, and he had an expression that was almost identical to Daichi’s. Wait, but isn’t Suga the kindest person in all of Karasuno High School? Why was he also acting weird? By far, the only person that acted normally was Hinata.

Why?

Suddenly, you heard footsteps echoing through the neighborhood. You froze in place, not daring to move. You were petrified. Had they found you?

No, surely they didn’t. You ran quite far away from the house you woke up at.

“Yeo!” You hear someone call from behind.

You didn’t dare to look back.

Instead, you stood up, and took off running.

You could not trust any of these characters anymore. They’ve all been acting strange, and it was concerning.

You felt someone grab your wrist that forced you to a halt.

You panted heavily, surprised how you were already out of energy, and how fast they caught up to you.

The person behind you pulled your wrist, forcing you to turn around to face them.

You weren’t near the streetlights, since you ran past the last one before getting caught. But as for a fact, you knew that it was a man. He was scary tall. Taller than Daichi. Probably exceeds Kageyama’s height as well.

“Well, well, what do we have here?” You hear a familiar voice say.

Even without light, you could still see the shadowy figure. It was clear to you who it was.

“Well, are you going to answer me?” The same voice said again.

“Yea, just, could you let go, please?” You asked.

“Wow! The girl speaks! See, how hard was that? Now, maybe, I’ll let go…only if you tell me your name, why you are wearing our school uniform, and why you are on the streets. You know that there’s bad guys lurking somewhere around?”

“What?” You asked dumbly.

“I’m not repeating myself.” He replied.

“Why do you want to know?”

“Why do you want to know what I want to know?”

“What?”

“I told you, I’m not repeating myself.”

“Alright then, don’t repeat yourself. I’m not interested in talking to strangers, thank you very much.” You said, trying to free your hand. Instead, he held your wrist tighter.

You couldn't believe it. You were feeling pain. Was this real after all? This whole thing, the anime worlds, are they actually real? Were you not dreaming?

“Stop! It hurts!” You shouted.

“Tell me.” He said.

“Well I’m not going to tell you until you let go!”

“I’m having trouble believing that you won’t run away if I release you.” He said as he squeezed tighter.

You were having trouble thinking through the pain.

“It’s common courtesy to tell your name first before asking mine!” You came up with an excuse.

Although you had a pretty good idea who it was going to be, you still had to make sure.

“Fine.” They replied as he let loose of his hand, but still gripping tight enough so that you couldn't make an escape.

“Tetsurō Kuroo, just ‘Kuroo’ is fine.”
