Yoshino Nagi was.. eccentric.
Not Gai or Naruto level but she's certainly is energetic and cheery with a good humour for a 30 year old single mother who had a single child.
Kakashi can't talk. He had a life time of trauma and grief and somehow still manage to be an eccentric person in his own way, like reading porno in public and purposely making himself late to honor his dead self proclaimed best friend that wasn't dead at all.
Huh? What are you talking about, He's of course over that. Bitter? Who said Kakashi was bitter about the fact that his dead teammate watched him suffer through so many trauma and pain that was mostly caused by him? Of course not. Kakashi's over it.
Really.
"Kakashi-San!," Nagi greets him with a warm smile as she enters his room for her 5th visit in 2 weeks, "I've brought food! I hope you're hungry for breakfast".
He was recovering well, quick and steady and surprising the doctors. Healing that fast wasn't normal apparently.
Kakashi wonders if any of them were aware of the weird energy in their body, like chakra but far more murkier like mud instead of water.
He immediately found out that chakra didn't exist here. Or at least to some extent. No one knew what it was or how to use it, the best he could find about it in 'Google' was wrong and incomplete.
Chakra was there, keeping people alive, or at least what he thought was chakra.
It wasn't chakra when he'd examined it closer.
It was murkier, like mud, much more connected with emotions and mentality than chakra had ever been. Controlling it would be akin to trying to control a mud, heavier and harder to control but firmer and stronger when successfully shaped and manipulated.
It was fascinating, a completely different energy from Chakra that was all about fluidity and flexibility of a water.
"Good morning Nagi-San," He nods respectfully, making the woman blush bashfully as she placed the bag of breakfast on the movable table in front of Kakashi, "Breakfast sounds nice, thank you even if you don't have to bring me meals everytime you visit".
"Oh please! I know how awful the meals in the hospital are," She mock whispers, taking the bento boxes and utensils out and placing them on the table in front of him, "I've tried it before when I gave birth to Junpei, besides, I rarely get to cook for other people! Let me have my fun Kakashi-San!".
He let's out sigh, letting the woman fuss over him in a way only Sakura and Tsunade had with Shizune in the background.
He says a small thank you as he starts eating, making sure to take a bite whenever the woman was distracted by her phone.
Technology was far more advanced here than in his world. The knowledge you can get and discover in the Internet was both amazing and concerning.
Kakashi felt no guilt when he'd used sharingan on one of the nurses to look into their memories, taking in everything they knew about the technology and cellphones.
It was fascinating, how much you could learn from a simple small rectangular shaped device like that. How much information was in there.
It was dangerous and it made Kakashi cautious, no matter how much dog videos he could watch there or the 'Smut' fictions and 'Hentai/DJ' he could read from it.
It was helpful however with much more important and pressing matters.
He quickly learns through Google that Shinobi didn't exist or had gone extinct as time passed, nothing but a fairytale told to children.
That he was in japan that was surrounded by countries 10× its size. That the whole big island that was easily twice the size of Konoha was an entire country divided into different provinces and cities.
That murder was illegal and so was all form of common things back in Konoha.
The official age of adult is 18 and above but the legal age was still 13, that children and teens have to spend half of their lives in school when they could've been discovering themselves out there.
That pollution was worse here and there was so much trash that it ruined multiple bays and oceans. That the world was suffering from climate change and there are multiple species of animals suffering for near extinction.
That train was even more common and instead of caravans and wagon dragged by horses, it's metallic boxes called 'Car' powered by oil and motorcycles are used as means of transportation.
That 'Airplane' existed and was used to travel from one country or city to another.
That people have to pay for their education, their health, and taxes and serve a corrupted government.
So utterly different from his own world and village.
Kakashi thought Konoha was fucked up with Danzou and the corruption in it but oh boy was Japan and the other countries was a political mess. Their system looked like a shitty mess and Kakashi had wanted nothing to do with it.
He wanted, no, needed to go home, even if it was unlikely, with how things were. Kakashi was a man of denial and he'll clung to the dream of getting home to his village and beloved students.
"Thank you for the food," He murmurs silently as he finishes his delicious meal, trying to ignore the pouting woman beside his bed who failed to look under his mask once again.
"Ne Kakashi-San, have you already have a place to stay in?," Nagi curiously asks as she starts packing the empty bento's and utensils, Kakashi helping her despite her protests.
How easy it was to get a new ID and any form of identification here in Japan was again, concerning. Though it was probably because the hospital and Nagi was kind enough to help him but it was still concerning.
Konoha wouldn't have let an unknown person get through easily like that, they had protocols and laws to follow and the hospital and the government of this country certainly didn't have them.
They hadn't even checked him! No background checks or even a question of who his family or friends was! No suspicion whatsoever and Kakashi was going to rip his hair out with how their security was to relaxed.
He's not complaining though, not when it worked in his favor. Identification was one thing out of his hair, the hospital and Nagi mostly doing the paperwork for him.
"Ah well, I'm still looking for an estate agent or at least an apartment near the Local Library," He eye smiles. It wasn't a lie, he was indeed looking for a place near the Local library because it was surrounded by small stores of books. He'd have to do a lot of research, as easy it was to just use the Internet, nothing compares to reading books.
That and because Erotica was a popular genre and he'd seen a lot of book stores that sells it through the Internet.
"Really!?," Nagi gasps, clapping her hands together and smiling brightly, "Well, fortunately for you, there's a vacated slot in the apartment complex I'm living in! And right beside my own too! The pay isn't very expensive and if you don't find money immediately, I could lend you some!".
"Maa, thank you for letting me know Nagi-San but you don't really need to lend me some money, I'm sure I can find a job easily," He sweatdrops, the woman was too trusting and giving, kind and too willing to help.
Kakashi is bemused with how relaxed and kind people here are.
Though that was probably because they'd never fought for their lives in a war and trained to be Shinobi's from a very young age.
"Oh hush! You're someone that needs help and I could certainly provide that!," She waves her hand in dismissal, her smile softening a bit as does her dark eyes, "And besides, my oba-san taught me to always help, stranger or not and your basically my friend now, I don't leave friends hanging when they need my help you know".
Kakashi's eyes widens a fraction, but he doesn't gape or freeze, instead he slowly blinks because he's a good Shinobi who knows how to control his emotions.
But Nagi's words had surprised him.
Too kind. Too open. Too willing. Too strange.
Even the citizens of Konoha, civilians and children, would know to be wary of people, regardless of who they are.
The woman smiles at him easily and warmly, playful and kind and Kakashi see's no deception in her offer. Sees no lies or hidden intention behind her words.
Nothing but genuinity.
Kakashi wonders, if this kind of kindness was limited to the woman and her alone, or is this world, untainted by wars and deaths of battle in the past decades and centuries, are full of people whose the same as her.
Too kind. Too open. Too willing. Too strange.
"Maa, I'm glad for the help," He tilts his head and gives the woman a genuine smile, even if it wasn't clear behind his medical mask, "I appreciate it, Nagi-San".
Kakashi was a Shinobi, trained and bred for it. He has protocols and laws to follow, rules that he memorised and abide by.
But he is also a human, even if he was more of a monster with the things he'd done, and his late teacher had taught him to return the kindness given to him that asks nothing for exchange.
Genuine thankfulness was the best he could give.
