Mourning. (A caitvi fanfic)

"A memorial! Attacking during a memorial is disgusting!" Caitlyn exclaimed as Vi walked towards the medical tent while the enforcers who were tending to her walked off at Caitlyn's silent command.

Vi quickly picked up on her cupcake's distress and kneeled in front of her. She gently grazed Caitlyn's fingers with her own, intertwining their fingers together, and raised Caitlyn's drooped head from under her chin.

"I'm just glad you're alive cupcake. Do you have any major injuries?" Vi continued to support Caitlyn's head while beginning to rub her finger over her cheek.

She had quickly softened into Vi's touch. "No, just some cuts and bruises here and there."

"Then there's something deeper going on, Cait the attack isn't the only thing bothering you. Is it?" Vi continued with a hint of concern in her voice while giving Caitlyn's hand a slight squeeze.

Vi could tell instantly that she was right by the way Caitlyn's eyes snapped open and closed once again.

"There is something. I know you too well Caitlyn."

"She just dies leaving me alone, having to pick up the broken pieces her death caused! Like this hole that I'm just supposed to fill when I had so much on my hands before... all because of Jinx."

Caitlyn's bottom lip had begun to tremble as she shut her eyes tighter, trying to hold back the tears that so desperately wanted to break through.

A small gasp escaped Vi's lips at her lover's words, but she quickly composed herself before sitting next to her.

"Oh Cait... the hole gets smaller, but it never gets filled, yet with the people you need most, it'll start to feel easier, and I will always be here for when you need me."

As the tears turn into quiet sobs, Caitlyn rests her soft, gloved hand over Vi's rough and bandaged hand, which held the head she felt she would never be able to hold high ever again.

She's never needed someone more than now.

She's never needed Vi more than now.

Walking through the quiet halls of the Kiramman Manor has never been so hard. Peering into rooms where Caitlyn's mother once stood, sure, they almost always fought, but she was still her mother.

But what shattered Caitlyn the most was Walking past the garden.

The one place she and her mother never argued, never judged each other, where they bonded.

Their little safe place.

The burning sensation returns. The feeling of tears wanting to spill, wanting to destroy the once-strong Caitlyn Kiramman.

Running her fingers along the engravings of the garden doorframe the tears broke through. Caitlyn rested her forehead on the doorframe as she sobbed once again.

Vi, who was slightly ahead of Caitlyn, noticed the stop of her heels and peeked her head over her shoulder before rushing over to Caitlyn.

Wrapping her arms around the now fragile girl, Vi knew she'd have to protect her cupcake from the world for at least a few minutes. Be her anchor when she can't pull herself together.

"What am I supposed to do Vi? How do I just continue with my life without her by my side?"

The pain and fear in Caitlyn's voice felt like knives being stabbed through Vi's heart.

She knew Caitlyn hated every time an enforcer died. Christ, Caitlyn had started to hate when others from the undercity got killed for no reason but Caitlyn's mother. A Councillor. Killed by Vi's sister. How was she supposed to support her now?

As time went on, Vi and Caitlyn decided the best thing for both of them was just spending time together in Caitlyn's bedroom, so that's just what they did.

On the massive bed that filled most of the room was Caitlyn resting her head on Vi's shoulder as Vi flicked through the box of the many records Caitlyn owned before pulling out a certain one.

"I never knew you guys had this song on this side!" Vi excitedly nudged Caitlyn's side as she placed the vinyl onto the record player and hopped up before just walking around the room.

"I never knew you were into music?" Caitlyn had got onto her own feet, Walking around the room as well as she just watched Vi with adoration.

"I'm not, but our love was mine and powd..." Vi's voice quickly dimmed as she realised Caitlyn probably didn't want to hear about Jinx at the moment.

Vi cleared her throat. "My mother's favourite song, according to Vander this is the song she played when she told him she was pregnant with me."

Caitlyn had reached for Vi's cheek "She must have been a wonderful woman if she's the mother of someone as thoughtful as you." She had begun to stroke the shorter girl's cheek.

Vi let out a slight laugh "She was. After our parents... yk, we really struggled, so every night Vander would build a massive Fort and make us sit in his lap and would just sing this song." She wandered over to the window, staring down at the undercity that stood across from Piltover.

"My sister used to fall asleep super quick but I was a little tougher to relax. The gunshots, their lifeless bodies, Vander beating the shit out of the enforcers on that bridge... just always played through my head."

Caitlyn had picked up on Vi's fear. The way her breath had the slightest unease between her words, the way her eyes dilated before shutting for a few seconds. Caitlyn rested her hand on Vi's back.

"I have been hurt so many times by those dying around me... I just wanted to protect you from that pain cupcake." Vi had turned around grabbing both of Caitlyn's hands in hers.

"I've lost so many people I loved. My parents, Vander, my 'brothers'. I even lost my little sister from my actions and words. But that was normal in the undercity. I just never imagined Piltover knowing and experiencing that pain either. I never wanted to imagine you going through this pain." Vi's breath hitched as she squeezed Caitlyn's hands, she let out another laugh.

"God, I tried comforting you with my own experiences, and here I am, close to crying myself, we're a wreck. Aren't we cupcake?"

"Perhaps, but that's what makes us so perfect. What makes you so perfect." And with that, Caitlyn had cupped Vi's face, planting such a passionate yet soft kiss upon Vi's lips.

Such a bittersweet moment turned into something simply sweet and brilliant. The most perfect girl. Sometimes when Caitlyn kisses her, Vi feels like she's in a dream that she never wants to wake up from.

And now the 2 girls sit rambling to each other, anything that comes to their minds, anything to ease each other's minds, anything to show how much they love each other as both of their speeches start to slur from exhaustion from the eventful and emotional day they've shared.

"My family would have loved you cupcake." Was the last thing Vi had said before Caitlyn realised Vi had fallen asleep against her chest.

Just watching the steady rising and falling of Vi's chest as she rested put Caitlyn at so much ease. It made her feel loved. Protected. Like nothing she could have ever imagined, but she wouldn't change anything for the world, things were perfect.

Vi was perfect.
