Chapter 7
SAKURA POV
Things were awkward, to say the least.
Just as he was every time, Kakashi was nowhere in sight. He had probably gotten “lost” on his way to meet team 7 at the bridge. But weirdly, Naruto wasn’t there yet. So that left Sakura alone with Sasuke.
She peered at him standing across from her, his eyes gently closed as if he were asleep. Dark circles lay under his eyes like cursed moons. She desperately wanted to break the silence.
“It’s a little chilly out here,” she said, rubbing her arms.
No answer.
She sighed.
“Of course Kakashi sensei is late again” she gave a fake laugh, trying to cause a reaction. But still.
Nothing.
She felt sick to her stomach as she said her next round of lines.
“I wonder where Naruto is? I bet that idiot overslept or something.”
His mouth slightly twitched.
His fingers briefly drummed on his crossed arms.
And then, like magic, he was still again.
She let out a sigh, her breath staining the cold air. Sure she wasn't going to get anything else out of him, she turned around to face the water below. She saw three fish swimming along the bank, one of them lagging behind the others. The second she saw that fish, she knew, that was how she was.
Everyone else was so far ahead, and she was that little fish, drifting farther and farther back.
“Sorry, I got lost” said a man's voice.
Sakura turned around to see Kakashi.
She could tell that he was forcing a smile, even though half his face was covered.
“ You know you don't have to lie right?” said Sasuke bitterly.
To that, Kakashi said nothing.
Sakura hated to admit it, but she wished Naruto were here. At least then it wouldn't be so painfully awkward.
