Jealous
Obito Uchiha was having a bad day.
It had started out fine. The mission was easy, Kakashi hadn’t insulted him (yet), and Rin had even given him a smile that morning. But then it happened—the thing that completely ruined his mood and made him question his entire existence.
Gai had complimented Kakashi.
It wasn’t even that dramatic. He’d just casually said, “Your speed is impressive, Kakashi! As expected of my eternal rival!” after watching him train, and Kakashi, as always, but kakashi didnt give his usual dismissive, “Mm.” instead, he said "Thank you, gai." Like it was nothing. Like it didn’t mean anything.
But to Obito, it was everything. Because what if Kakashi liked Gai? What if, despite all of Obito’s efforts—his dramatic confessions (that Kakashi never understood), his carefully planned gestures (that Kakashi never noticed), and his relentless loyalty (that Kakashi always took for granted)—Kakashi ended up with someone else?
Obito scowled. He had to do something. Something to prevent this.
So, naturally, he stormed up to Kakashi and blurted out, “You’re not allowed to date Gai!”
Kakashi blinked at him. “…What?”
Obito crossed his arms. “You heard me. You can’t date him.”
Kakashi tilted his head slightly, as if genuinely confused. “I wasn’t planning to.”
Obito faltered. “Oh.”
“…Why would you even think that?” Kakashi asked, staring at him like he was some kind of puzzle he couldn’t solve.
Obito flushed. “No reason.”
Rin, watching from the sidelines, sighed and rubbed her temples. “Obito…”
“No, really,” Kakashi continued, now looking at Obito with mild suspicion. “You’ve been acting weird all day. Are you sick?”
Obito groaned. Why was he like this? How could someone be so stupidly perceptive in battle but so unbelievably blind in every other way?
“I just—!” He struggled for words, then finally, exasperated, shouted, “Because I like you, okay? That’s why!”
There was a beat of silence. Kakashi blinked, processing. “Oh.”
“Oh? oh?! That’s all you have to say?!” Obito was ready to explode.
Kakashi hummed thoughtfully, then—still missing the point—said, “You should’ve just said that earlier.”
Obito did scream this time.
Meanwhile, Rin sighed again. They were never going to figure this out.
