Chapter 6

Obito had a theory. It was a bold, ambitious theory, and he wasn’t sure if it would work, but he had a gut feeling about it.

Kakashi got flustered when touched.

Not in battle, of course. The guy could dodge kunai and counter blows without hesitation. But in normal, everyday situations? Obito was starting to notice a pattern. The first time had been accidental—his hand brushing Kakashi’s wrist when they reached for the same scroll. Kakashi had jerked back so fast he nearly knocked over the entire supply table.

That was interesting.

The second time was more deliberate. Obito had ruffled Kakashi’s hair after a mission, saying something dumb like, “Nice job, genius,” and had been rewarded with Kakashi going completely stiff before muttering a quiet, “Don’t do that.”

That was very interesting.

Now, Obito was determined to test his theory properly.

So he started touching Kakashi. Casually.

An arm slung over his shoulder after training? A light nudge whenever he made a joke? A hand lingering just a second too long when passing him something? All perfectly natural. Completely normal.

And Kakashi?

Was failing at handling it.

Every time, without fail, his shoulders tensed, his breath hitched, or he turned away with suspicious redness dusting his ears. He never told Obito to stop, though—never actually pushed him away. He just… endured it, as if hoping Obito wouldn’t notice how utterly affected he was.

Obito noticed.

And he was having so much fun with it.

“Hey, you good?” Obito leaned in close one evening after training, casually resting his chin on Kakashi’s shoulder as he peered at the mission report in his hands. Kakashi froze. Like, full-body, statue-level stillness.

“…Get off.”

“But I’m comfy,” Obito drawled, grinning as he draped more of his weight onto him.

Kakashi exhaled sharply. “Obito.”

Obito pulled back slightly, just enough to see the way Kakashi’s grip on the report had tightened, his ears a bright, telltale red. Bingo.

“You’re weird,” Kakashi muttered, pointedly looking anywhere but at him.

Obito grinned. “You like it.”

“I don’t.”

“You do.”

Kakashi glared at him. “Go bother someone else.”

“Nah,” Obito said easily, casually reaching up to brush a stray lock of hair out of Kakashi’s face. He barely touched him, fingertips ghosting over his forehead protector.

Rin, watching from a safe distance, chuckling to herself this time.
