Sai
"Naruto what are you doing up?"
Naruto jumps and whips his head back to the front door, there stood Sai in a oversized black kimono top and white pants, his hair was messy from sleeping and he had dark circles under his eyes, he's face was in his normal neutral expression and he was slouched like he could fall back asleep in an instant.
Naruto turned back to where the unfamiliar chakra came from but it was gone. Did sai scare them away? Was it their bedtime? Did their mother call them? Was it even a kid? Was it just his imagination? Kakashi always says he's always had a big imagination! Could he have been dreaming the whole time?
"Naruto" sai grumbles "why are you up?" He says more frustrated, he just wanted to go back to bed already and not deal with his little brothers chaotic antics. "I thought I saw something" Naruto mumbled in reply, this made Sai raise a brow "where?" He questioned much more awake now.
Naruto simply pointed towards the area he felt the chakra, a dark spot in the woods. Sai looked out worryingly "Naruto go get kakashi" Naruto tilted his head similarly to a fox "why it's not there" sai shook his head "just go get kakashi!" He gently pushed Naruto towards the door till Naruto reluctantly went inside to get their older brother.
Sai stared out into the dark and creepy forest, the one they were forbidden to ever leave. The one that they don't now where leads to, kakashi says it's too dangerous out there, but he goes almost everyday. The one they always remembered being in. Funny enough they really don't remember anything before this field, they hadn't been there forever with, yet he didn't remember how long, he's only 7!
The thought of monsters or scary things being out there frightened him, sure kakashi has taught them taijutsu and some different Justus for each of them, him and art style one, Sasuke an electricity style one, Sakura healing ones, and Naruto wind style ones, kaguya was to young to learn anything though kakashi seemed reluctant to even talk about teacher her at some point, but it's like he always knew what they'd be good at.
He doesn't know what to do in real life situation, he wouldn't admit it to his younger siblings but he was terrified! But he had to be strong for Naruto right now, it's his job as oldest. It his job, it's the reason kakashi always put him in charge of the others when he leaves, it's his responsibility and he wouldn't think twice before throwing himself Infront of danger for them even if he was scared!
He took a deep breath, he's a big boy he can handle this. He just has to wait till Naruto gets kakashi out here.
Suddenly he felt a hand on his shoulder, he jumped and looked behind him.
It was just kakashi, he was also looking towards Naruto thought he saw the person. The look on kakashi's face scared him even more. . . Kakashi looked horrified, like the world was about to end Infront of him, like the look on your face when you've been caught or found out, he looked as if he'd pack all his things and run away.
"Sai" he said calmly despite the look on his face "go inside and don't come out, keep everyone in. I'm gonna go out and check out who or what it was, if it was anything. I'm going to activate the seal on the house to make sure no one can come in. And DON'T open the door for anyone unless Naruto says it's me, okay?" Sai nodded fearfully.
Kakashi look down at him and smiled softly "there's food and drinks in the kitchen it's enough to last a few weeks" sai nodded slowly but frowned even more when kakashi's face went serious again "if I don't come back do not come looking for me, okay? You'll need to go out, throught the woods, follow the trail I made out of the forest and follow the road down the hill, after a while there's a village. There you can get odd jobs, fighting people, helping in general and more, they'll give you money or prize's. Use the money to buy food and drinks, seeds also use them to make a garden so you won't have to go out as much" kakashi was talking like he knew he wouldn't come back at all, not what ifs, it's almost like he knew he was gonna die.
Sai felt tears fill his eyes, kakashi knelt down and hugged him "it'll be okay, I'll make it back I promise, I don't wanna leave you guys. We just can't be to careful, it's a dangerous world out there that's why we stay here in the safety of this field " sai nodded "so go inside and be good okay?" Kakashi stood up "okay, I will! I'll be big and strong too okay!" Kakashi smiles at sai's respond and ushered him back into the house before heading off into the woods in the darkness of the night.
Sai walked through the house making sure all windows and doors were closed and locked, and shut all curtains. He noticed all of the kids were in the living room looking at him worriedly "it'll be okay, we just have to stay inside and hidden for a while, big brother will be back soon, just go back to bed" the 3 didn't look very convinced but kaguya just looked tired and confused.
Sai picked her up "bed you guys now" Sai said with a little more authority then before, much like kakashi did. Sasuke and Naruto looked at each other before walking back upstairs to their room, Sakura played with her hair worriedly before tiredly walking to her room, thankful her room wasn't upstairs and climbed in bed as Sai followed behind her to put kaguya in her own bed across the room from Sakura.
Sai turned the light off before going upstairs to check on Naruto and Sasuke, both were sleeping soundly with their light already off. He walked towards his own room right next to Naruto and Sasuke before stopping, he turned and walked downstairs and dropped himself on the couch, he had to know if someone was coming he had to be about to keep his eyes on the doors.
Kakashi wasn't there right now, there's danger outside and it's up to him to protect his siblings, and he will not fail.
A tiny voice in the back of his head said "not this time" but he ignored it, not really understanding
