Chapter 2
Kakashi collapsed on the couch, letting out a sigh. Why did Hokage-sama think that the ANBU was a good place to raise a child? Minato-sensei’s child nonetheless.
“So.” Kakashi let out a groan as Dove plopped down next to him, “How you holding up?”
Kakashi snorted, throwing an arm over his eyes, “Super,” he muttered.
Dove hummed, throwing herself over his legs, “And the kid?”
“Naruto is gonna be an annoying little shit,” Kakashi muttered, throwing a glare at the door they put Naruto in to rest.
It took 3 hours to get the kid to sleep.
Three.
Hours.
Dove let out a laugh, quieting down when Kakashi shot her a death glare, “He’s a spit fire, that’s for sure,” she grinned, “Cute too.”
Kakashi grumbled, shoving her off him, “You didn’t even help.”
“Yeah well-“ Dove shot up, knocking over a glass which fell to the floor after the initial hit which somehow dropped the pile of kunai’s on the table along with the many senbon needles that clattered to the ground.
Then the inevitable crying came.
Multiple groans emitted from the rooms around Naruto’s and Kakashi glared at Dove, who looked sheepish, “Sorry?”
“You’re putting him back to sleep,” Kakashi hissed, “Now.”
“Alright, alright, sheesh,” Dove grumbled, walking over to the room and throwing the door open, proudly walking in. Kakashi glared at the door until it closed again, then turned on the couch and hid his face in the cushion. He could’ve gone to his room but that was too much work.
“Hound-“
“Go away.”
“Geez, I was just gonna say do you really think leaving a new born with Dove is a good idea?” Weasel asked.
“Is leaving a bunch of emotionally constipated ANBU in charge of a child a good idea?” Kakashi responded with sarcastically.
“True,” Weasel sighed, collapsing on the couch. Kakashi grumbled as he was bounced around and shuffled back to his previous position, ignoring the world. “How are you?”
“Go away.”
“No, keeping it bottled up isn’t gonna do you any good, Kakashi,” Weasel said, poking Kakashi’s leg again.
“It’s against the protocol to call me by my name with my mask on,” Kakashi muttered, kicking the offending hand.
“Then take the mask off.”
If only it were that easy. The mask was the only thing keeping him together with having to face Minato-sensei’s child.
“Kakashi.”
He sighed, sitting back up and taking his mask off. He glared at Genma who stared right back. “Come on, I don’t get everything your going through, but we had a connection through Minato-sama.”
“I should have been there,” Kakashi said.
“I was,” Genma sighed, “Minato-sama put up a barrier before we could assist him.”
“Still! I was stuck behind a damn barrier while everyone was running and-“ Kakashi sighed, collapsing back on the couch, “He didn’t have to-“
His throat constricted. It was almost that same as his father. Minato-sensei had technically committed suicide to seal the kyuubi in his son. But he’d been stabbed, right? He didn’t have a choice.
Kakashi sat up to take back his mask when he was pulled in by Genma. “You’re not alone in this.” Kakashi was hit with how close Gemma was to his age, but acted as if he was so much older.
Kakashi grumbled but let Genma hug him. He owed it to the older, even if Genma shoved him till he talked about his feelings, sometimes literally.
Kakashi pushed himself out, protesting when Genma ruffled his hair, swatting away the offending hand and putting his mask back on. Genma out his back on as well.
“Do you think Dove fell asleep in there with him?” Weasel asked.
“Probably.”
The door to Naruto’s room slammed open, an annoyed Dove and a giggling Naruto in her arms.
“This kid is evil,” Dove gritting out, glaring down at the giggling kid, “He’s so fucking cute but he’s fucking evil.”
“Language, Dove,” Weasel chided, “There’s a child in your arms.”
“Shut up,” Dove hissed, “He’s a kid, he’s not gonna be able to understand what I’m saying for two more years.” She put Naruto in Kakashi’s hands, scurrying away, “I’m leaving. I won’t ever wake him up again,” she said, spinning around and sprinting away.
Kakashi held baby Naruto, studying him as Naruto babbled unintelligibly. The kid would grow up but he looked so…vulnerable. Any pokey thing would be able to hurt him, especially if he woke people up after a mission from his crying.
“Stop holding him as if he’s a bomb waiting to go off,” Weasel snarked, “He’s a baby.”
“A very loud one that probably gave Bear-kaichou a fear of babies,” Kakashi snarked back, pulling the baby in and leaning back on the couch.
Weasel snorted, “It was that bad?”
“Bear-kaichou almost dropped him,” Kakashi snorted, “So I heard, at least.”
“Oh shit,” Weasel snorted, “It was that bad.”
“Language!” Anko yelled from her room.
“How the-“ Weasel glared at the snake with the comm on its neck, “Go away Anko,” he said, rolling his eyes.
“I am away!”
Kakashi snorted, looking down in his arms. “Hey, Naruto’s asleep.”
“Your a baby natural,” Weasel said, looking down at the sleeping kid in Naruto’s lap. Kakashi rolled his eyes, standing up to put Naruto in his bed. The room was an empty ANBU room; plain walls, a desk, a closet, and a single twin bed. Kakashi just got some extra pillows to place them around the outer edge of the bed to keep Naruto from toppling over. He put Naruto down before making a swift exit.
