Chapter 2

She did not understand why they needed to visit the Uchiha clan head. She also did not understand why they needed to pay respect to a toddler [Granted he was the clan heir]. Her mother did not understand her insistent grumbling over visiting the clan head when she was usually quite well behaved.

Hisako pointedly did not behave in a disrespectful manner when she met with Mikoto, and Itachi. Although she never made eye contact with Itachi, and stayed with her mother throughout her endless and quite boring talk with Mikoto. Perhaps, it was because she was afraid she would look at him in the eyes and just see an innocent child. She knew he was still an innocent child. But, if she saw him then she was afraid that she would feel her heart melt. She would grow too attached too quickly.

And she couldn't risk doing that.

She couldn't risk having any spotlight on her due to him. She couldn't grow attached to him and then be roped in the village and clan affairs. She couldn't do that.

Or maybe, she was just making excuses. Maybe she was afraid she would see his face and all she would see is the face of a person who was willing to massacre his entire clan just because he couldn't find another option fast enough. She'd watched Naruto enough times to know Itachi was a great person. But, this was also a person who would not hesitate to kill if he believed it would be for the greater good.

She just hoped she didn't get to see him often.

Afterwards, her mother had bought her ice cream which distracted her for a while, and then she surprised her by saying she would drop Hisako off to a friend. She also stated that she'll be going on a mission.

"It likely take me about a week or so to get back. So behave well there." Her mother's words felt unneeded as she was always well behaved. She always behaved like what was expected of her, aside from a few cases of her being forgetful or being airheaded, but she knew that she was a good kid.

She raised her head to look at her mother when she felt her patting her head in a gentle motion. She usually wasn't one to do such things.

"I know you're a well behaved child, but things there are a bit... Different. So just be careful." Her mother spoke in a low voice, probably to ease her out of her pouting. She nodded her head after a couple of seconds and her mother lead her to a fairly decent sized house.

She frowned at the obvious lack of detailing and care, but otherwise made no move to show her displeasure. The person living here clearly did not even try to clean up properly, which was what she disliked the most but, she knew that not everyone was enthusiastic about cleaning as she was so she decided to not judge them too much for their mistake.

Her mother knocked on the door twice and waited for some time, before sighing and heading inside. Hisako followed after her and looked around curiously in the house. The inside was much better than the outside, with beautiful calligraphy scrolls hung on walls [She was guessing it had some sort of meaning] and nice furniture which matched the aesthetic of the home. She would've nodded in approval but she was distracted by the smell of something burning.

She jumped when she heard the sound of some metal falling down. She looked up at her mother to see her sighing before she instructed her to find a kid who was likely somewhere in the house and get him to the kitchen where she and his mother would be.

She nodded, and began to look around.

"What are you doing in my house?!" She jumped [Again] when she heard a childish voice scream at her. She did not glare at him but from the way his frown got deeper, she had a feeling she wasn't exactly wearing a rather pleasant expression either.

"My mother said that she came to visit your mother. And she told me to find you and tell you to go the kitchen because my mother and your mother will be there." She did not pout[She very much did] while answering. She was mentally a 14 year old teenager who would not let children's anger dampen her mood. She noticed him apologizing and decided to forgive him and asked for his name.

"My name's Shisui!" The boy grinned and she smiled back at him before introducing herself.
