Sun and Star
Prologue: Sun and Star
The night was dark, and the wind, silent. The small, insignificant island far from the rest of the Elemental Nations knew better than to expect a quiet night. They could feel it in the air. Something was about to happen. And they were right. Something was happening in a house on the outskirts of the village.

Breathing heavily, the girl fell to her knees. Her body shook uncontrollably, and she squeezed her eyes shut. Suddenly, with a strangled gasp, her eyes shot open and she leaned back, arms falling from their place around her chest. Her formally blue eyes had become white, with thin ovals of gray spaced apart evenly in the iris. Her pupils were replaced by a thin green x. As she leaned back, pure power exploded the house, with the little girl as the source. The village was shocked, and one man, the one who had been appointed temporary leader of the village smiled.
“She has returned.”

The girl’s parents watched worriedly as their daughter trembled on her hands and knees.
“Are you sure she’ll be alright?” The room shook around them as if to emphasize the mother’s point.
“She will be fine,” The man responded. “When she has learned to control her powers, she will be set free.”
“How will we know?” The girl’s father asked.
“She will destroy the room.”

An explosion shook the village. People looked toward the source of the explosion. They were shocked and nervous at the sight of the destroyed Control Room, the room designed to help young children with too much power, control that power. Rising from the debris was a seven-year-old child. She climbed down the pile, excess power radiating off her skin, but not doing anything, showing incredible control. She walked up to the village leader, the energy still surrounding her fading away. The man kneeled with a smile.
“My lady.” He said. The girl did not smile. Instead, she placed one small hand on his head. After a moment, she removed her hand and the man looked up with a gasp. “How did you know?” He whispered. The girl smiled and leaned down slightly to look him in the eyes.
“How do you think?” She replied just as quietly.

She scowled at the files before her. It appeared the rest of the world had forgotten about them. They had been reduced to legends, then to myths, then to children’s tales. It wasn’t right. Their small village had once been even smaller, and yet ruled the entirety of the Elemental Nations. It was high time they reminded the world why they’d ruled for so long. She smiled, looking up at her old friend and closest advisor.
“Let’s get to work.”
