“Please welcome our new student.” Their teacher said with a stiff smile. The door to the classroom opened and a little girl walked in. Some of the meaner kids started laughing.

“Look at her, she’s just a little kid!”

“She’s like four!”

I noticed Shisui opening his mouth to defend her, but before he could,

“Excuse me? Is that how you talk to somebody you’ve never met before? You have no idea what I could do and you're still being rude. I am the Princess of Ketsueki. I’m going to guess you have no idea what that means and explain for you.

“The island of Ketsueki is where all shinobi originated from. Only a few decided to remain there, but they were some of the most powerful shinobi out there. Now, there are more, and they are just as powerful — if not more — than their predecessors,” The Princess said, glaring at the bullies. “You say you want to be shinobi, but shinobi are not bullies. Neither are they fangirls.”

At this, she looked at the girls sitting behind Shisui and me.

“Being either will get you killed. And perhaps your village too.” She finished, looking at the bullies again. “I suggest you take care with your next words.” She added coldly.

The kids swallowed nervously, but Shisui and I were in awe of how she’d handled them. Her speech finished, she turned to the teacher. Startled, he fumbled with some papers on his desk.

“Uh- You sit next to Shisui. Uh. Shisui please raise your hand.” He managed. Shisui raised his hand. The girl came over and sat next to him.

“Soo… What’s your name?” Shisui asked.

“Tsuki.”

“Huh. Well, it’s nice to meet you Tsuki.” The Uchiha said with a smile.

“It’s nice to meet you too Shisui.”

“This is Itachi.” He added, leaning back so Tsuki could see me. Tsuki turned to me with a smile.

“It’s nice to meet you Itachi.” She said.

“It’s nice to meet you too Tsuki.” I returned, a very small smile appearing on my face.

With that, Tsuki turned back to the lesson. I could practically hear the girls behind us grinding their teeth, and based on Tsuki’s expression, she could too.

After class Tsuki was the first out the door, Shisui and I close behind her. Shisui noticed her sitting on the swing with her lunch and a book. He ran over to her, dragging me behind him.

“Hey Tsuki!” Shisui greeted with a grin. The Princess looked up and smiled.

“Hello Shisui, Itachi.” She said.

“Mind if we sit here?” Shisui asked. Tsuki shook her head.

“Make yourselves comfortable.” She replied. Shisui sat and tugged me down to sit next to him.

“Hey, can we be friends?” Shisui asked after a few minutes of peaceful silence.

“Of course!” Tsuki said cheerfully, looking up from her book again.

“Yes!” Shisui exclaimed gleefully. Tsuki giggled at that and I smiled. Shisui grinned.

“Hey, maybe we could be on a team together!” Shisui said suddenly.

“I wouldn’t mind that,” Tsuki said, smiling. She closed her book and set it next to her.

“It’s not likely,” I told them.

Tsuki smiled, placing her elbow on her knee and her chin on her palm. “You forget, I’m the princess of an island full of powerful ninja. I’m perfectly capable of threatening the Hokage into putting us on the same team.”

Shisui cackled.

“Teehee.” Tsuki grinned.

I stared at her for a moment before I started laughing too. Tsuki joined in a moment later. Sadly, lunch ended shortly afterwards and we had to go back to class.

In class, Tsuki rested her chin on her left fist and completely ignored the teacher in favor of her book.

“Hey, why aren’t you paying attention?” The teacher demanded upon noticing her inattentiveness.

“Because my book is better at explaining things than you,” Tsuki told him without looking up. I coughed into my fist to hide a laugh. Shisui had a bit more trouble covering his laughter, but he managed. Somehow.

The teacher spluttered a bit.

“How dare-“ Tsuki looked up at him then, and if anyone had forgotten her heritage, they were instantly reminded of it. She didn’t glare, but the look she wore was cold and regal, gently reminding the chuunin exactly what – or perhaps more accurately, who – he was dealing with.

Swallowing, the man turned away and continued with the lesson.

“Woah. You really are a princess.” Shisui said, looking at her with sparkling eyes.

“How exactly does me shutting up the teacher prove I’m a princess more than my speech from earlier?” Tsuki asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Because the teacher has never backed down from an argument with a student, and you just looked at him and he stopped,” I clarified.

“Ah, so he’s one of those teachers. I see,” She said. Shisui and I looked at her confusedly. Noticing, she explained.

“I’m referring to a teacher who is very good at doing, terrible at teaching, but there was nobody else available so the ones in charge gave him or her the task of teaching the next generation. Obviously, this is very bad, because even if the teacher is good at doing, if he cannot teach, all students will learn is that learning is bad. And of course, that stunts the growth of the next generation.”

“Oh.” Shisui and I intoned together. Tsuki smirked and turned back to her book. Following her example — albeit differently — we turned back to the teacher.

————————————

“Class dismissed.” The teacher practically growled, glaring at the students. Tsuki stood up without looking up from her book and swiftly made her way out of the classroom. I was right behind her, and Shisui behind me.

I first noticed Sasuke standing with my mother and Shisui’s mother near the tree where we’d had lunch with Tsuki. Next to them was an unfamiliar man in a blood-red and royal purple kimono. Tsuki walked up to the man and seemed to say something to him.

“Nii-san!” Sasuke cried, waving excitedly. Smiling, I made my way over to him, Shisui following closely.

“Hey otouto,” I said, poking his forehead gently. Sasuke made a face and glared at me. Shisui chuckled. I glanced at Tsuki, who was conversing with the stranger.

“Who’s that?” Mikoto asked, following my gaze.

“That’s our new classmate,” Shisui told her. “Her name’s Tsuki and she’s a princess.”

“Whoa,” Sasuke said, eyes beginning to sparkle. Abruptly Tsuki cut off her conversation and looked at the boy. She smiled and waved before turning back to the man and resuming the conversation. The man gracefully ignored her momentary lapse in focus. Mikoto smiled.

“She seems nice.” My mother said, still smiling at the blonde princess.

“She is!” Shisui said, grinning.

“Why don’t we invite her over for dinner?” Shisui’s mother suggested.

“That’s a lovely idea Hae.” Mikoto agreed with a nod. I sighed while Shisui’s grin faded slightly before returning full power. We moved a short distance away and began to speak about miscellaneous things until Tsuki was done. I startled when she appeared beside me.

“I believe you mentioned me earlier?” She smiled at Aunt Hae.

“Ah! Yes, we were wondering if you’d like to join us for dinner sometime.” Hae replied, returning the smile.

“That would be wonderful,” Tsuki said. “Unfortunately, I have things I need to do as soon as possible, but perhaps next week would work?”

“That would, yes.” Mother said.

“Lovely. If you’ll excuse me, I have a meeting with the Hokage in twenty minutes.” With that, she turned and left, the nameless man following just behind her.
