beginning of the end
Megami was only three years old when she was forced into the world of wizards and mages. And at the young age of three she was forced to understand just how powerful she could be. And it was at the young age of three she was sent away to train and harness her powers not knowing just what would happen during the years she would be away from her family.
At the young age of three Megami met Grandeeney, an elder and former Dragon Slayer. Grandeeney taught Megami everything that she knew. She taught her how to use her magic for the good of the clan and nothing else. She taught her about their history and how the clan came to be. She taught her that the world around them was and still is a cruel and heartless world and out there it was kill or be killed. She was taught that there was no real justice in the world, no matter how much people think there is. She was taught that the truth of the matter was the so called justice they do is for themselves and no one else.
During her training she was told that she wasn't allowed to leave or complete her training until Grandeeney was gone, it was a Dragon Slayer tradition, a cruel one at that. So for four long years Megami was trained until she dropped. For four long years Megami was pushed to her limits in a way no child should be. For four long years she had to endure merciless words being spit at her when she couldn't master something. For four long years she went through and experienced things a child her age should never have to go through. And for four long years, Megami persevered and topped all expectations that were placed on her.
And finally after four long years she was able to go home, she was able to go back to the main compound which was far away from where she was. Though where she and Grandeeney trained was sacred and would be where Megami would train the next dragon slayer when the time comes.
Finally Megami had returned to the main Vermillion compound and walking in she didn't expect the reaction she got. She didn't expect the glares and sneers pointed in her direction. She was confused on what she had done to deserve it. Maybe they didn't recognize her? She wasn't sure of the reason as she walked through the large compound passing by the guilds it held as she made her way towards her home.
Upon arriving at what was once her beautiful home, she realized just how broken and beaten down it was. The windows smashed with cobwebs building in the space where the glass once was. The door slightly broken as it hanged off the hinges looking ready to fall at any given moment with a small push. The porch floor having holes and the wood looking ready to break the moment someone were to take a step on it. Then the walls were by far in the worst condition. Littered with graffiti and holes that looked to be formed from being angrily beaten at.
Megami frowned, her heart dropping as she read some of the horrible words painted on the walls of the house still not understanding what had happened and why it was like this. There were so many unanswered questions that floated around her head as she heard the sound of incoming footsteps as a crowd formed around her. Hearing the snickers and giggles that ran among the crowd she realized that they were all making fun of her and for what she still had no clue.
Frowning her chocolate brown eyes looked away from the broken house in front of her looking at the crowd around her as they slowly inched closer to her circling her in.
"We were better off without you, just like we were better off without your sick parents." Was the first clear sentence she had heard from the crowd making her frown deepen as she blinked her face showing her obvious confusion at the topic of her parents and what they had done. She had no idea what they had done or even where they were. She hasn't seen or heard from them since she was sent away to train four years ago.
Keeping up the strong front she was forced to put up for the past four years she turned around facing the crowd, her face hiding any and all hurt that she felt from the event happening as she asked, "And where exactly are my parents?"
Some of the crowd looked shocked at the question while a small, small, very small few looked guilty realizing that the young girl had no clue as to what was going on and what her parents had done. Though none of the small few of the guilty people were able to speak up as the larger amount of people who still didn't realize or just didn't care that she didn't know spoke up with a taunting tone.
"Oh, you haven't heard have you?" The male that spoke up with the taunting tone walked closer to Megami getting in her face with a scowl on his own, "Your father was banished after murdering my family three years ago, and that bitch of a mother of yours didn't want to leave him, so she was banished as well."
Megami's eyes widen in horror at his words, murder? No... He's lying...
Before Megami could really process what she was told all she could feel was pain. She felt like she was being burnt alive yet frozen at the same time. She could faintly hear people yelling and others yelling back before she passed out laying on the hard cold floor of the concrete ground.
The loud sounds of screaming woke Megami up with a start. Jolting up she looked around realizing she was no longer on the ground but on an old slightly dusty couch. As she sat up she noticed she wasn't in any sorta pain and looked down and her eyes widen noticing she was healed to perfect health with no scrapes or bruises on her. She was confused, no matter how fast her healing may work it could have never healed her to such good health so quickly, meaning someone else had to of healed her, but who...?
She was soon snapped out of her thoughts as another ear piercing scream rang out causing her to flinch from the loud sound cursing her enhanced hearing. Getting up quickly she ran out of the house she was in which happened to be her own old home. Pushing the door open she ignored the loud sound of it falling as she ran towards the sound of where the scream came from.
Now that the young bluenette was paying attention all she could hear was the loud sounds of screams and cries of horror and fear throughout the compound. Along with the sounds there was a strong scent of blood coming from each direction making Megami nauseous as she ran. She could feel the strong magic power radiating off of the person being the cause of all the chaos and murder happening around her, they were strong, stronger then someone she's ever met.
She could tell they were part of their clan due to the simple fact she could sense them, and that part saddened her even more so knowing it was someone of her clan causing this downfall. She knew better then anyone how the clan worked though. So being honest she can't say it's that surprising that the down fall of their clan is caused by one of their own pushed over the edge, it didn't make it any less heartbreaking though.
It was no secret the clan was strict and ruthless when it came to training their own mages, it's how the clans survived on their own for so long, because they were stronger then the rest. They'd never even think of holding back when it comes to fighting and training one of their own. The clan was known to be heartless when it came to outsiders, though most didn't know that still applied to their own as well.
The Vermillion's were stronger then the rest because of that though. They were strong because they never held back no matter the opponent. It's how they work, it's how they were taught, it's how she was taught, and how she works as well. Holder back was a rule-breaker for the clan. They fought will either they were killed or their opponent was killed. There was sadly no in-between. Kill or be killed, is practically the motto for the Vermillion's. One of the many, many things the Vermillion Clan was known for...
And it caused hatred towards the Clan like no other, though most never get the chance of acting on it.
Megami realized that this was one of the times that someone got to act on it now as she was forced to stare at the massacre in front of her. She realized just how bad hatred towards someone or something could get as she witnessed the events unfold in front of her. Hate causes people to snap and do things they would never do unprovoked. It causes the most nicest and sweetest people who you could never see hurting a fly, do things, horrible things.
And that's what Megami had to witness right in front of her. She watched as the person who raised her for the first few years of her life, loved her, cared for her, did anything for her, killed right in front of her.
She froze. She didn't know what to think. She didn't know what to do. It was like her whole body wouldn't respond to her as she was forced to watch. The person in front of her was no longer the same person who had raised her with love and a caring, sweet smile. They weren't the same person who would hold her as she cried or sang her to sleep when she was crying at night.
The person in front of her was no longer the father that smiled at her softly telling her everything would be okay. The person in front of her was a murder, a monster. The person in front of her was no longer her father, there was no way in hell.
Finally he turned towards her moving his attention away from the bodies that laid on the floor dead. His once soft dark eyes were now a blazing red eyes with a black ring surrounding his pupil. He then smiled the same exact soft smile that Megami has always known and loved, but she could never see it the same with the blood running down his face and the screams of terror echoing throughout the compound forever going to be in graved in the young girls mind.
Megami felt her body tremble against her will and no matter how much she wanted her body to stop and listen to her she couldn't stop the shaking from the pure fear she was feeling. This was her father... The man that cared for her since she was born... He was smiling the same smile he always did and everything...
"Ah, there you are Megs, my sweet child." He smiled sweetly as he walked closer to her. His eyes slowly faded from the blazing red going back to the soft sweet normal dark color they were before. Megami gulped trembling as she backed away clumsily almost tripping on her feet as she tried standing as far away from him as possible. "I was looking everywhere for you, dear. I was hoping to find you sooner so less people would be involved... But then I saw how they treated you and I couldn't let that stand. Now that you're here we can leave and become a family again. Sadly your mother won't be joining us, but i have you so it'll be okay."
Megami froze, what does that mean? Mom won't be joining us? What...?
"What do you mean...?" Megami asked, her voice trembling as she spoke her voice laced with worry, confusion, and fear for her mother.
Zeref smiled sadly as he knew the news would hurt her, "She was murdered. It's all this clan's fault, they caused her death." His eyes flashed back to the blazing red color from before, "THEY DESERVE DEATH!" As he yelled his magic went out of control with a black swirl of magic erupting and spiraling out in all directions. Megami reacted quickly as she waved her hands controlling the wind and created a shield in front of her blocking the magic from hitting her. She watched in shock and horror as everything in the magic's path died as soon as it was touched.
It was then that it clicked in her mind. That's why he was banished... He preformed the taboo of the clan... He learned the dark arts... That was Ankhseram Black Magic, it's forbidden with in the clan. So he must have been learning about Ankhseram and was banished once the clan found out about it. But if his magic was going out of control like this then...
Megami's eyes widen as it dawned on her and Zeref smiles at his daughter knowing she figured it out already and felt proud of her development. "Yes, my dear, I was cursed by Ankhseram. I've had the Curse of Contradiction for around three years now."
Megami's eyes widen in horror, her eyes beginning to water, "I- That's... That's how mom died isn't it...?"
Zeref smiled a sad smile, "Yeah, your mother paid the price of loving me. When I was banished I told her to stay with the clan. Your mother refused though, she said that she couldn't leave me like that. I continued to try and tell her to stay with the clan so that when you finish your training you had someone to go home to. She told me that she'll come back for you once you finish your training. I finally gave in... Something I should have never done... Mavis is dead because this clan banished me, and in doing so forced Mavis to follow me and leave. They're the reason she's dead!"
Megami frowned, of course that'd be how she'd die... She died cause she cared too much about dad... Now he's taking his anger out on the clan...
Though before Megami could open her mouth, Zeref suddenly appears in front of her, "Don't worry, you'll be safe were I'm sending you."
Megami's lips parted as she released an ear piercing scream into the quiet air of the compound as pain began to flood her entire being. And the last thing she saw before passing out the second time that day was those terrifying blazing red eyes of her father staring down at her.
Megami was slowly awakened by the sound of voices making her tense as she could feel the soft bedding underneath her. Breathing in softly she could smell the strong scent of medicine and artificial cleaners that smelt strongly of lemon. Then she also could smell the scent of three other people in the room making her tense even more, ready to fight if she had to as she had no clue who these people were or what their intentions were. Though she deducted they were in a hospital, what hospital she had no clue.
"How's she doing?" Was the first clear sentence she heard from the other three in the room. The voice was most definitely a male, he was young, she could tell that much from his slightly squeaky voice, maybe around her age if she were to guess. Though what threw her off was his tone of voice... There was very clearly worry in it...
"She's doing fine, you shouldn't have to worry. In fact, she should be waking up soon." The second voice to speak sounded a lot older and more mature then the first place. He must have been the doctor of the hospital she was at. But she still didn't know where she was.
"That's good." The last male to speak said. His voice was also squeaky but unlike the first voice, his was more monotone and emotionless.
Megami gulped deciding that they might not be a threat and decided to risk it by opening her eyes. Though she let out a whine from the bright white light that filled her vision making her shut her eyes again. Her whine caught the attention of the other three males in the room, one chuckling at her behavior in amusement.
The doctor was quick to act as he walked towards her, shining a bright light in her eyes which Megami was quick to squat away childishly as she let out another whine of protest.
"Could you not shine that thing in my eyes? I'm not trying to go blind by the time I'm ten, thanks!" Megami exclaimed moving away from the doctor only to end up rolling off the bed on accident. Letting out a loud sound of surprise as she hit the hard tiled floor of the hospital room.
She could hear the laughter of the child that chuckled at her before. She didn't have much time to process and listen more before the doctor was in her face asking questions back to back. Usually that thing wouldn't bother her but she was already irritated from waking up to the light in her face and the fact she was in an unknown place was putting her on her toes and making her more hostile then normal.
"Could you be quiet and get out of my face?" Megami snapped slightly shoving the doctor back rudely, she felt a bit bad but she still had no clue where she was and that wasn't sitting right with her. "Who even are you? Not to state the obvious but I don't know any of you so why should I answer anything? And where even am I?"
The doctor's eyes widen before they soften at the scared girl who couldn't be more then four foot, "You're in Konohagakure hospital. I am the doctor that was assigned to take care of you during your stay here."
Megami frowns, "The Hidden Leaf village?" Her frown deepened as she made eye contact with the older male, "Do you know how I got here?"
The doctor smiles at his patient before gesturing towards the two other boy's in the room, "There two young men found you just outside of the gates of the village. You were unconscious and unresponsive." The doctor's smile slightly dropped as he took a more serious mode, "Do you remember how you got her or any information that could be useful."
Megami frowned thinking over how she could have gotten here before her eyes widen. How could she have even forgotten... She remembered how when she first got back to the compound how she was mistreated by her fellow clan members... Then what her father did... Then how her father knocked her out saying she'll be safe where he puts her... Which he was most likely talking about here.
"I- um... I don't really remember anything... I'm sorry..." Megami made sure to let confusion and fear cloud her eyes as she let out a shaky breath her body slightly trembling making it look like she was genuinely terrified. She didn't know if it would be a good idea to tell just anyone who she was. Megami was young but she wasn't stupid, she knew that if any clan members survived they'd hate her even more then they did before for what her father did. At least until she spoke to the Kage of the village she would keep quiet about her knowledge and past.
The doctors eyes showed clear sympathy and pity making Megami frown mentally, "That's okay dear, I'm sure you'll remember soon enough, so don't worry to much about it. Now, I'm going to go inform the Hokage that you're awake now." The doctor smiled softly at her one last time before getting up, nodding towards the two other boys in the room before leaving out the doors shutting them softly behind him.
The boy that laughed at her before smiled down at her. It was then she got the chance to really look at him. He had black hair that was slightly curled mess on his head, falling over his headband in a few places. He had a really cute smile though, it was bright and cheerful and almost made her smile just by looking at it. He also had really pretty eyelashes that looked really feminine but looked good on him and suited his dark eyes.
Holding his small hand out to the girl with a sweet smile on his face he introduced himself, "I'm Shisui Uchiha, nice to meet you...?" He trailed off looking at her as though he was waiting for something making her eyes widen as she took his hand in her's letting the boy pull her to her feet with surprising strength. But then again he did say Uchiha was his clan name and all she's heard about the Uchiha's was that they were strong and people to try and not engage in battle with.
Megami nodded back in greeting not noticing how his hand never left her's as she introduced herself as well, "I'm Megami, and I- um don't exactly remember my last name... I'm sorry..."
Shisui's eyes narrow slightly in suspicion though besides that his smile widened as he continued to look down at the slightly shorter girl, both still not noticing the fact their hands were still bound together. "It's lovely to meet you, Megami." Shisui then points towards the other male in the room.
Megami turned her attention away from Shisui for a quick second looking towards the other male. He had semi long hair that ended right above his shoulders with bangs that slightly covered the front of his headband. He looked slightly younger then her but he resembled Shisui a lot, he probably was also an Uchiha.
"This is Itachi Uchiha, he doesn't really talk much so don't get offended if he doesn't talk to ya!" Shisui grins at her once more his eyes softly crinkling as his cheeks showed off his dimples. This time Megami couldn't really help but smile back for the first time since she finished her training with a sadly deceased Grandeeney who'd be missed by her dearly. But even if it hasn't been long in reality, but for her it's felt like years since she's smiled and it felt good to do it again.
Itachi nods his head back at her polity as a sign of greeting his lips turning up slightly as his eyes briefly glanced towards their hands which somehow they still haven't realized were connected still.
Megami went to wave with her hand and it was then that she realized their hands were still connected making her face flush red as she dropped his hand in a hurry, "I'm so so sorry-"
Shisui's eyes widen as well, his facing flushing a bright red as his hands wave frantically in front of his face, shaking his head, "No! No! It's not your fault-"
"I'm sorry-"
"It's fine, I'm sorry-"
"But-"
"Really it's fine, we both didn't notice." Shisui said as his blush calmed to a light pink shade that stained his cheeks as he nervously rubbed the back of his neck his eyes glancing between her in the floor.
You couldn't blame the young boy for being embarrassed over something like this, Megami was very cute for her age. With her short dark blue hair and her big, bright, chocolate brown eyes that shined when she smiled at him.
"Yeah, you're right, still sorry. But it's nice to meet both of you as well!" Megami smiled, giving a short wave towards Itachi.
Shisui's cute grin stayed as he stared towards her, his eyes never leave her own as he asked, "So do you really not remember anything? Like besides your name, of course."
Megami put on a sad smile as she made her eyes face the floor shaking her head, "I'm sorry, I don't remember anything... I mean I remember basic things like my name but I can't really make any connections beside that."
Shisui's smile looked symptomatic as he placed a hand on her shoulder giving a small rub, "That's perfectly fine, like the doctor said, everything will come back to you over time."
Right after Shisui said that the doctor walked through the doors once more with a smile as he looked at the scene in front of him, "Alright these two boys here will show you to the Hokage's office, he'll be waiting for you there."
Megami bows giving the older male a grateful smile, "Thank you, sir."
The doctor nods with a smile before he walked out once more leaving the three children alone once more.
Shisui smiles at Megami nodding towards the door, "Shall we go now?"
Megami smiles nodding her head before she follows the two out of the hospital and towards the Hokage's office.
