Chapter 6
“This came yesterday” Arizona said throwing some paperwork on the kitchen counter
It was from the lawyer who was dealing with Mark’s estate. After Sofia was born Mark created a will and made Callie the executor, something she only agreed to because she never thought she would actually have to do it.
“I’ll deal with it later” Callie said brushing it off
“Callie I-” Arizona said before getting cut off
“I said I’ll deal with it later. Now I gotta go or I’m gonna be late” Callie said picking up Sofia and walking out the door to work
“Callie” Arizona half yelled as Callie closed the door
A moment later Arizonas mother walked in the living room from the guest room
“Everything okay?”
“Yeah it’s fine” Arizona said with a deep breath
“You guys ready to go?”
“You’re dads finishing the last of the packing now” she responded
“Okay. Let me see where your uber is” Arizona said pulling out her new phone
“Arizona- Have you thought about asking Callie to go to therapy with you?”
“What?” Arizona asked
“Therapy. As a couple. Have you thought about it?”
“No, we’re fine” the younger blonde said dismissively
“I’m not saying you two aren’t fine” her mom started
“But there have been a lot of major life changes and events for both of you in the last few months. It might be a good idea just to make sure you’re both on the same page and that there aren’t any resentments growing”
“Mom we’re fine” Arizona stressed, not really wanting to continue this conversation
“You know your father and I went to couples therapy when we lost your brother”
“You did?” Arizona said after a moment, very surprised by this admission
Her mother nodded
“I can’t believe you got dad to talk to a therapist” Arizona said kind of shell shocked
“It wasnt easy or necessarily fun but we were both going through a lot and needed to make sure our relationship was strong because if it wasn’t we may not have made it through”
Arizona opened her mouth to respond just as her dad walked in the room, a suitcase in each hand
“We should get going if we want to be at the airport on time”
“Good timing. Your Uber just pulled up” Arizona said checking her phone
Arizona and her parents said goodbye to eachother, the latter promising to visit soon and the former promising not to yell at any more home nurses who came to help her

“My mom said she thinks Callie and I need to start seeing a therapist together” Arizona said a few days later at her appointment with her therapist
“What made her say that?”
“Callie is back at work and pulling long hours planning for Derek surgery on top of her regular work load and im starting to realize that I’ve been at home for the last month able to recover and she hasn’t really been able to stop and take a breath.”
“Have you told her that?”
“Not in so many words” she admitted, already knowing that she needed to fix that
“Why not?”
“I don’t know, just seems like it would open the door to a big conversation and we don’t have the best track record with those”
“So it sounds like you think some couples counseling would be helpful”
“I guess so” Arizona said
“Why not spend more of my time pouring over every emotion I’ve ever had”
“You joke but it never hurts to try to improve your marriage. Do you think Callie would be open?” Dr. Laing asked
“I honestly don’t know” the blonde responded
“All I know is that I can’t lose her.”
“Talk to her about it. Go from there. And if you’re interested I can give you some names if good couples therapists I know”

Arizona took a deep breath that night as Callie climbed in bed next to her
“Do you ever worry about us?”
“What?” Callie said slightly surprised as she looked at her wife
“Do you ever worry about us? Cause sometimes I worry that everything that is going on with the plane and mark and my leg and work is going to drive us apart instead of push us together“
“Where is all this coming from?” Callie said looking at her wife
“This last month, you’ve taken care of me and made sure Sofia is happy and fed and gets to daycare, you’ve been to every appointment I’ve had, all while planning one of your biggest surgeries ever. Fact is I haven’t been there for you the way you’ve been there for me and I’m sorry”
“Arizona it’s okay. You-“
“No it’s not and I want you to know that I’m going to try better. But I also wanted to see if you would be open to some couples counseling”
“Do you really think we need that?”
“I’d rather go and not need it then regret not going somewhere down the line” the blonde admitted
“Okay. Then we’ll make the time” Callie promised squeezing her wife’s hand in hers
