Listen to your Heart
Summary
“Where is she?” Callie yelled as she ran into the Idaho ER, a panicked look on her face“Arizona? Arizona??”It had been about 12 hours since she had gotten the call. The call that the plane had been found. The call that Meredith, Derek, Christina, and Arizona were all being airlifted to the hospital. The call that Mark and Lexi hadn’t survived.——My take on the plane crash and how it brings Arizona and Callie closer together instead of driving them apart

Chapter 7

“So when can I get you back in the OR?” Bailey asked as she was on the phone with Arizona one afternoon a few days later

“It’s gonna be awhile Bailey, I don’t even have a prosthetic yet” the blonde answered

“Yeah about that- Dr. Killian tells me you cancelled your appointment with him”

“I don’t see how that’s your business” she answered

“Getting my best pediatric surgeon back in the OR is exactly my business” Bailey shot back

“Look Bailey right now the answer is no. Karev is holding down the fort just fine” the blonde retorted

“Robbins you either make another appointment with Killian, or you won’t have a fort to come back to am I clear”

Arizona knew it was a mostly empty threat but she also knew that mean that Bailey was serious

Callie walked in with Sofia a few hours later

“Hi” Callie said

“Hi you” Arizona said as Callie leaned down to kiss her wife

“And hello to you” she said looking at Sofia who happily went into Arizonas arms
“So I can’t exactly cook or reach the stove yet but, I can order out so there’s a pizza on its way”

“You took care of dinner” Callie said with a smile “thank you”

“Actually feels good to take care of something for once” the blonde admitted

“Good” Callie said smiling before Arizona continued

“And um. I called my therapist and got the names of a few couples counselors she knows” Arizona said

“Okay. She recommend anyone in particular?”

“Not really, she said it was up to us so if you want to look them over and let me know what you think”

“Yeah I have some time tomorrow I can get that done” Callie agreed

“Thank you, and thank you again for agreeing to therapy”

“Of corse” Callie said
“The last few months have been a lot and it’s probably much easier to let it all out in a healthy controlled environment”

“Probably” Arizona agreed just as the doorbell rang, signaling that the pizza had arrived

“How are things going health wise with you Arizona” their new couples therapist, Dr. Watson asked

“Okay, everything’s healing nicely” the blonde replied simply

“Hopefully she’ll be in a prosthetic soon” Callie added, causing Arizona to mutter “Jesus” under her breath

“Everything okay?” Dr. Watson asked

“Callie and Bailey both keep bothering me about getting a prosthetic and it’s really starting to piss me off” Arizona admitted, leaving Callie a bit taken aback

“I keep bringing it up because the sooner you get a prosthetic the sooner you can go back to work and do all the other things you love to do” Callie explained “plus you’ve fired all the nurses we’ve hired to help you at home but once you get a prosthetic you won’t need them as much”

“I’m not ready for one and you don’t get that” Arizona said trying to get her point across

“Why aren’t you?” Callie responded

“because it cements the fact that I’m an amputee” the blonde retorted half yelling

You could cut the tension with a knife but Arizona took a deep breath and kept going
“And I know it’s stupid cause I already am an amputee but I see the way you look at me now and I’m scared of how you’ll look at me once I have a robot leg”

“What?” Callie asked, clearly confused

“I am going to be an ortho patient for the rest of my life Callie” Arizona started
“And I am married to the best orthopedic surgeon in the state. So yeah I’m worried that when I get my prosthetic you’re going to look at me like I'm a patient or a victim or someone who needs to be fixed and not like I’m your wife.”

“Callie what do you say to that?” The therapist asked

“I mean, yeah things are different now, I can’t deny that and yes I spend a lot of time thinking about what I can do to help you and some of that is from an Ortho perspective but it’s not because I see you as a victim or a problem. It’s because you’re my wife and I love you” she said taking the blondes hand

“When I look at you Arizona… I see you standing at the alter in your wedding dress, I see you holding our daughter, I see you coming up to me in that dirty bar bathroom and kissing me 30 seconds after introducing yourself. That’s who I see, Arizona. I just see you”

“Promise?” The blonde asked

“I swear” Callie said taking her wife’s hand, unsure how she ever got lucky enough to have Arizona in her life
