I died at 22 years of age.
Before I died I was a soldier for the USA involved in the Afghanistan War. I believe myself to be pretty intelligent for my age, particularly during high-stress situations. However, I was no one special in the military. I was but a soldier in a war between politicians.
As I died I see my comrades around me desperately trying to live in an ambush our commanders did not predict.

For a small while, I panicked. What happened? So many thoughts are running through my head right now. Just seconds ago I saw comrades of mine who served next to me die in front of my eyes as well as my own life withering away. I still had not made my peace with death yet and here this strange sight appeared in front of me.
For the first time in so long, I cried. I let out my tears knowing that nobody would be there to comfort me or to see me. That was who I am, reserved and lonely for most of my life. Well, that was before I served my country. I made connections, strong bonds that I thought I would never break and I lost all of it, in just seconds.
It wasn't my first nor my last yet it was rare for me to be completely scared. Yet the more I am thinking about this, the less I worried. I have a second chance. Now as I have time to think, was my ways justified, killing all those people? I have seen more death in a few years than most would ever see do I need to see and commit more of it? Yes, if it was for a good cause. If it was to ensure peace would be achieved. If innocent people would be saved by the action of killing then I shall do it without mercy and hesitation. However, what I will change about myself is that I would not be a loyal dog no more. I would do what I deem right and for the better of my country and people.
I should now put full focus on this new life I have, I need to be strong enough to save my comrades, not like last time.

'This won't do at all.' I thought. In conclusion, I need to get so much stronger to be able to survive in this universe and protect what connections I will make. I took a look around me and took note of the children around me lining up to what I can tell to be a cafeteria. A place where there is a cafeteria and tons of children could either be a school or an orphanage. However, as I am an Academy student, I could tell that this is an orphanage as I would not be in a school outside of the Academy.

I realized that due to the ripple effect, my presence alone would change the future drastically even if I was to drop out of the academy. Especially as I was on friendly terms with 2 of the Konoha 11. I would have to get a lot stronger, so much stronger.

I arrived at the academy earlier than usual which surprised Iruka-sensei who is in the classroom.
"Oh, you're early. That's a surprise, I guess during the holidays you realized that being in the last year of the academy means that you can't slack off, right?" Iruka asked, hoping that it is indeed the case.
I nodded. "Yes," I replied. "Sometime in the last month, I realized that I am all the closer to becoming a full shinobi and an adult. As the world is an unforgiving place, full of shinobi who are willing to kill you for no good reason other than being just a Konoha shinobi, I knew I had to stop being so unserious. I cannot afford to be weak in this world."
Iruka's smile faded as he listened to my words. He didn't disagree with the overall meaning, but his view of the world was not as negative as mine. Surprised that a child who was so happy just months ago would be so serious. He had seen the horrors of war and violence, but he had also seen the hope and kindness that shinobi could bring as he wondered what had sparked my change in attitude. Was it something that Did something happen to me or one that I cared about? Or was it something completely different? Either way, he would decide to put more attention to my movement and what I say.
