Chapter 1
Chapter one
''Sunshine and Moonlight."
Dark purple eyes opened and watched as the sun rose from behind her balcony windows. She tossed and got up, shoving all the blankets and pillows away and onto the floor before she slipped inside her little bathroom. Brushing her teeth, she watched herself in the mirror and trailed her eyes along with her bright rich red hair, it was starting to grow out again, which was a good thing, or so she thought. She never thought that having red hair, or all hair colours would get her in so much trouble. Girls her age were mean and did things that were not what most girls should be doing.
Asuna was different, with her strange eye color and her hair, but she was a human being and she was crying herself to sleep because of it. And it all started when Sasuke Uchiha opened his mouth. He commented on her hair, and how different her color was once very quietly in class. The next thing she knew, the heroin was pinned in the bathroom by fangirls and her hair was chopped sloppily down to her ears. She was helpless. With no way of escape and no parent to turn to, what was she to do? So with much effort and hard work, she trained herself after school, she was very skilled in taijutsu now, unlike a year ago, and if someone said or tried anything, she took them down no matter what.
Our heroin was startled out of her senses when the door was banged open, she should start locking it at night.
Her eyes refocused from her clothes, which consisted of black pants and a plain tank top to match, to a brightly grinning Naruto Uzumaki, who was standing at the door, with two cans of paint and brushes. He seemed to be in a bright mood, while she was still drowsy.
''Hehe, Asuna-chan!Ohayo!''He said and she nodded her head without him asking for her assistance, slipping on her plain black pants, before strapping her single kunai to her belt, letting it dangle there.
''Ohayo Naruto-Kun.''She said and walked past him, her hand taking the spare brush and paint from him, making her way out, before hearing him follow after her.
''So what's the plan?''She asked and grinned back at him as he explained.
''We outdid ourselves!''She marveled at the paint job she did on the first Hokage, as she leaned against the fence, her hand going over her eyes, shielding them from the bright sun.
''Hey, you two, stop right there!''The voice of a man, ninja by the looks of it, was heard, startling the two, which also made them run like hell down the street.
''Meet you at four,'' Asuna said and Naruto nodded, the two splitting their paths at the streets, following different directions. It was a code the two made for just them, it was hard to run away from people, faster, older, chasing you, but the two never wanted to lose one another so, naming places, like the big oak tree one and the streets two to ten was an easy way to find one another.
It was a few short minutes before Asuna was at the meeting point, she had shaken the ninja following her, feeling proud of herself, but as she stood by the fence, she was alone, Naruto seemed to be missing and he should have come here by now. Worried, she took a deep breath and jumped on top of the tree closest to her, scanning the grounds, he was nowhere she could see him.
They had found him.
''I know you are up there Asuna, come down!''She refocused on the ground below her, it seemed Iruka-sensei had found Naruto and tied him up, the blondie struggling against the ropes as he looked up at her pleadingly, but all she could do was jump down and stand at the side, looking at her sensei.
''I can't believe you two would do something like this!''Iruka was disappointed, she felt a little guilty but followed after him back to the classroom like it wasn't there, rumbling in the pit of her stomach.
''We are sorry,'' Asuna said and walked beside the two, Iruka dragging Naruto behind him, still in the ropes, he struggled.
''Not,'' Naruto mumbled, still struggling. Asuna needed to teach him the Jutsu for rope escape.
The classroom was buzzing with talk when the group arrived, but it turned into a low murmur when Naruto was placed on the floor, while Asuna stood at the side of him, rope-free. Her eyes locked with Shikamaru's lazily opened ones, the boy seemed to be sleeping before that, but now was awake and looking at her with mild interest. She smiled softly and listened to Iruka blowing his anger out on them, but she didn't care, she was there for Naruto and she couldn't care less about what she did to the Hokage heads.
''Now, we will review the transformation jutsu because of Naruto and Asuna!''That seemed to catch her attention, she groaned and looked down at Naruto, who was finally free from the ropes. She smiled softly at him and gave him a helping hand, which he took without much of a thought, everyone else coming down and forming a line.
''This is all your fault Naruto, can't you just grow up?''That seemed to catch Asuna's attention, her eyes no longer focused on the front of the line, where Sakura was impressing Iruka sensei and looking for the attention of one Sasuke Uchiha.
''You need to watch what you say.''Asuna defended Naruto without a second thought, it wasn't like it was just him, and it wasn't just something he did for the sake of doing it, he was abandoned by everyone, he just needed someone to see that he was fact a child of someone, that he needed some care. And Asuna was there for that, but one could only do so much, she was in the same boat, she understood, but unlike Naruto, she didn't care what people thought, she knew herself best and she was proud of everything.
''There is a reason you don't have other friends Asuna!''The girl in the class moved away from the red-haired beauty but to say she took something of that to heart wouldn't be a lie. She loved Naruto, he was her first friend, she didn't need to get along with anyone else, so why try to put herself out there and get hurt in the long run?
Asuna knew what Naruto was, that was the only reason she sought him out, the demon inside her was something she made friends with, she wanted to find her other half with Naruto, she wanted to be with someone who understood what she was going through, but it seemed at the time, Naruto had no idea what or who he was. He wasn't a damaged demon host, no. He was a bright and cheerful boy, who had big curious, and friendly baby blue eyes that Asuna couldn't walk away from. He was her first friend and so, she was going to make sure he was safe and happy before herself.
'Naruto is enough for me.''She said, her voice firm and a little threatening, but she was snapped out of her thoughts when her name was called out, her feet almost moving on their own as she made her way to the front. Asuna saw Naruto giving her a thumbs up, a big grin adorning his face. That was all she needed.
''Transform.'' She said, her eyes closed, her body turning into a perfect replica of Iruka.
''Nicely done,'' Iruka said and she nodded, before making her way to the back. Next up was Naruto, but the little devilish look in his eyes told her he was up to something, so she paid attention. She wasn't going to miss this.
''Transform!'' Naruto said and Asuna blushed as she watched him turn into a blonde female older version of himself, his private parts covered by small clouds. She burst out in laughter, watching as Iruka-sensei fell back to the floor, his nose bleeding out.
''That's my sexy no jutsu! Believe it!''Naruto said and she couldn't help but smile, he was clever, she had to give him that.
''NARUTO!!!!"
Asuna lazily opened her eyes later that day, she was perched up high in a tree, deep inside the forest, but not that far away from the village to not be safe. She focused on the passing clouds and took a deep breath, her body protecting her movements to adjust to the branch. She could see Naruto still scrubbing at the Hokage heads from where she was standing and she wanted to curse herself out for being the smart ass she was earlier. Asuna and Naruto were forced to clean the faces up, so she took it upon herself to use her two solid clones to help out and get the work done faster, but that only seemed to anger Iruka so he sent her to train in the forest, keep her busy, while Naruto cleaned.
She was shaken out of her thoughts when she heard footsteps coming her way, slow and heavy, someone was passing below not in a hurry. Presumably, someone coming back from the fields, maybe training. She glanced down, eyes adjusting to the darker parts of the forest below, where the sun didn't seem to shine as brightly. Asuna saw one Shikamaru Nara walking gradually, mumbling to himself. She didn't make herself known but he seemed to stop and look up, right at her, it wasn't like she was hiding in the first place.
''Hey spider monkey, what are you doing up there?''He asked something that startled her, it was so silent.
''Watching over Naruto.''She voiced and jumped down, landing much like a feline, as she dusted her black dress off softly.
''Walk home with me?''He asked and she nodded, following after him, before she aligned her footsteps with his.
''What were you doing out there?''She finally asked, when the air started to feel awkward from the silence, plus she was curious.
''Cloud watching in the piece, Choji, and Kiba found my other spot so I had to move.''He said and she understood, there were moments where some of them wanted the world to stop, like herself and Shikamaru, but there weren't that many places where one could hide in this village.
''Hm, well Kiba is a tracker type, it can't be helped.''She mumbled and saw him looking at her, something was twinkling in his eyes, he wanted to ask her something, but he didn't want to seem, rude, like most times.
''Why did you stay a year back again?''He asked finally and she looked away, she wanted to be honest, but her reasons were too personal to just tell him, they weren't that close of friends to tell him her deepest secrets to, and not even Naruto knew why she did that, why would she tell Shikamaru about this before she did to Naruto.
''Personal things and whatnot.''She finally settled on that, even if he didn't seem that pleased with the simple answer.
''After tomorrow, you might finally pass the exam, maybe even be on a team with me,'' he said and she chuckled, looking away.
''I'm not going to be on your team, it's not a wise strategy to put us together. I thought you were the smart one Shikamaru.''She said and he pushed her shoulder, feeling offended.
''We will see about that.''He said and smirked, while she stopped and fished her apartment keys out of her pocket, waving to him, as she took the turn to her house, before losing him in the faraway side of the street.
''We will."
