Two Years Old
She sat in her mother's arms, gazing around, ignoring all the stares, as they walked through the market area. Just then her eyes fell on a child off in the distance. She wiggled around in her mother's arms and whined.
"Hm? What is it sweetie?" Her mother spoke as she stopped walking. The child whined again before pointing her chubby finger at the other child she saw, "Tobi! Tobi!" Her mother looked to who she was pointing at and smiled softly, "You want to say hello to your cousin Obito?" The little girl giggled and nodded, "Yes please!"
Obito Uchiha, little Mae's cousin, and probably the only who was willing to talk and play with her. He was her favorite person in the world, probably for that very reason. As her mother went closer to the pouting boy, Mae started wiggling until her mother put her down, then she took off with a giggle and yelled, "Tobi!" before throwing herself at the six-year-old.
"What the-? Mae!" Said boy let out a laugh before pulling her into a hug. Mae squeezed the boy as much as her little arms allowed and Obito squeezed her right back making her laugh.
"Hello Mrs. Hyuga." Obito said while Mae snuggled into his side. Mrs. Hyuga let out a small chuckle, "Hello to you too, Obito." Mae finally let go and pouted up at him, "Why Tobi sad?" "Wh- I'm not sad!" Obito puffed out his chest.
Mae frowned, "Yeah huh! You makin' a face like a puppy! That means you're sad!" "Is everything okay?" Mrs. Hyuga asked a little concerned. Obito rubbed the back of his neck and sighed, "Well, it's just a classmate of mine just made chunin! And I haven't even made genin yet and it's just so aggravating."
Mrs. Hyuga smiled softly and patted his head, "Don't fret, okay Obito? Just let fate work her course and you'll get there." Mae began jumping around, "Yeah! Yeah! Tobi great! He can do it! He can do anythin' !" She raised her fist up and declared it for everyone on the street to hear.
"Quiet down some sweetie." Mrs. Hyuga said pinching Mae's chubby cheek making her whine. Mrs. Hyuga turned back to Obito, " It's real nice seeing you, but we need to finish picking up dinner before Hizashi gets finished with his work."
Obito nodded and ignored Mae's whine, "Of course! I need to finish picking some stuff up for my grandmother too."
"Please tell her we said hello." Mrs. Hyuga said pulling a whining Mae off of Obito and into her arms. Obito nodded and smiled before turning to Mae, " I'll see you later Mae Mae!"
Mae stopped whining and started giggling, "Bye bye, Tobi!" As the mother and daughter left, Mae continued to wave at Obito until she couldn't see him, then she started pouting.
"Miss Tobi." She mumbled into her mother's shoulder, who just smiled and shook her head, "Don't fret sweet thing, you'll see him again." Mae huffed and put her face into her mother's neck. "How about this, you behave through dinner, and I'll let you go see him tomorrow if he isn't busy." Mae mother said patting her back. Mae gasped and looked up at her mother, "Really? I'll be so so good!"
Her mother laughed and pinched her cheek, "We'll see then hmm?"
