Five Years Old
Mae was skipping her way over to the Uchiha compound with a gift bag swinging in her hand. Today her cousin Obito made genin, or she hoped he did. She had the upmost faith in him, she believed he could do anything. She stopped skipping when she saw the Uchiha front gate and frowned. Mae hated coming over to the compound, mainly because of her dad. He never stopped her from coming in to see Obito or even his wife Mikoto but she could always tell by the look on his face he never liked her being around.
Mae sighed and put on her brave face. She kept walking through the gates smiling at the two guards who just stared. That's one thing she hated, people always stared at her simply because she wasn't a full Uchiha (or a full Hyuga), and it was apparently unheard of. At least that’s what she heard those two old bats say when she was trying to buy one of those fake anbu masks.
But Mae walked with purpose into the compound. Besides congratulating Obito on becoming genin she was going to see her baby brother, Itachi. He was just the cutest! And he was barely one year old. She also wanted to tell Obito and Mikoto she was joining the academy in a few months. Maybe Mikoto will bake her a cake, Mae loved Mikoto's cakes.
She finally came up to Obito's house and saw him walking out the door. Mae smiled and ran to him, "Tobi!" She crashed into him and threw her arms around him causing him to groan. "Mae, I thought I said to stop doing that?" Obito said pulling her into a hug.
Mae just giggled, "Congratulations! You're a ninja now!" She pulled back and thrusted the gift bag to him. Obito grabbed the bag from her and said, "how did ya know I even passed, huh?"
"Cause you're the best ninja there is, duh!" Mae said putting a hand on her hip, "Now open your gift! I told momma I'd help her in the garden for a month if she let me get you that."
Obito chuckled and ruffled Mae's hair, "Alright, alright! But you didn't have to get me anything."
"Just open it!" She said bouncing on my toes. Obito pulled out the tissue paper and pulled out a kunai set, "Woah!" Obito's eyes became twice their size, "This is so cool! But don't these cost so much?"
Mae nodded, "Yup! But Hizashi always told me if someone tried to pull one over on me or be mean to me then I gotta pull out the water works and cry about me being des- desim- descrin-"
"Discriminated?" Obito offered, Mae nodded and smiled "Yeah! He said that'll get them to change their tune! Especially if I say I'm gonna tell uncle then they turn white as a ghost!" Mae giggled, "The man at the shop offered to let me get that half priced after I cried for uncle."
Obito shook his head with a smile, "I thought you didn't like your uncle?"
"I don't, but if I can use him to get half prices on things then I'm not passing that up!" What my uncle doesn't know won't hurt him either, she thought.
"Thank you for the gift, Mae, but I gotta go meet my team so I can't hang out." Obito said sadly. Mae just shrugged her shoulders, "That’s okay, I was gonna go see Itachi today. Dad won't be there, so I'll get to actually play with him."
Obito frowned, "that's not fair, you should be allowed to play with your brother anytime you want!"
"It's not that he doesn't let me play with him, dad thinks I might hurt him or something." Ma said frowning a little. "Still." Obito said shaking his head.
Mae just sighed and then said, "I wanted to tell you I'm joining the academy in a few months!" Mae and Obito spent a good while talking about her joining the academy before he realized he was late.. Eh- later than he was before.
"Ah, sorry Mae! But I need to get going! I don't want to keep my team waiting!" Obito ran inside to put the gift up then ran out past Mae. She started giggling and waved at him, "Bye Tobi! And congratulations again!"
Obito turned and waved as he was running and yelled, "Thanks, I'll see you later!"
