“Hey, Kashi!” Obito waved at his direction, seeming to interrupt his business as usual.

“Hm?” He waved it off, going back to reading.

The Uchiha grew baffled, as if the neighbor’s cat got his tongue.

“Um…can you…watch TV with me at my house? Saturday Afternoon?”

Kakashi widened his eyes at the absurd request, upon hearing it for seconds only.

The Kakashi Hatake. The boy who wastes away the rest of his childhood buried in studies? Who cares nothing (if it’s nothing, then why does he still befriend Obito?) about socializing?

Also the same boy who uses his rarely opened phone for his studies and documentation—then watching something suggested by the frivolous dead last?

“Absolutely not.” Kakashi bluntly answered, not making sure if it offended the other.

“Eh? But ‘Kashi, granny prepared eggplant miso for dinner. You can’t just refuse!”

Seriously. Can Obito even accept refusal? He thought to himself, going back to whatever he’s reading, flipping the pages as it leaves a small noise.

“Well, I know now. How about you bring a book worth two weeks of reading for me to read, while you go to my place to watch TV. Deal?”

He smirked, ignorant to what kind of books the silver haired boy is going to bring.

However, his plan seems to have gone well. Kakashi sighs, as he leaves a bookmark at a random page, closes the book, and shifts his attention to Obito.

“Fine, I’ll consider.”

“Why the f-“

“Language!”

Kakashi grumbled under his breath. Questioning his dear life, he turns to look at Obito.

“Why are we watching cartoons of…talking ponies and the power of friendship?” He really can’t take it seriously. The dead last can only stare and hum in reluctance.

“Well, say, Kashi. If you are known to be someone who can’t value friendship, then you might as well watch a show that values the meaning of friendship, right?” Obito briefly replied. With Kakashi refusing the understatement.

“And if you’re known to be someone who barely harbors knowledge, then you should watch a show that gives you knowledge?” He teases, imitating how the Uchiha actually talks.

Obito huffs in embarrassment, his face as red as a tomato. Uncaring towards the neighbors, he shouted, “Says someone who sent me algebra books late at night!”

Several muffled groans were heard when suddenly, a stomp at the ceiling startled them both (Kakashi can’t admit it, but he’d rather say he didn’t cry reading the calculus book given to him once).  “Shut yer trap, brats! @*#<$!”

They both giggled when one of Obito’s older cousins snapped, leading to many more to wake up. The TV screen shows a rather plot-striking scene, then leaves it on a brief commercial break a few seconds later.

Obito cleared his throat and started talking to the Hatake.

“Hey, Kashi. Mind if you grab me my phone?”

The younger passed the phone without hesitation and looked at the TV screen for a few seconds. Once bored, he stared at the ceiling, completely unamused given the circumstances.

“Maa, Obito. Do you know a thing or two about passing time?”

“Huh? What’s that?”

“You know, without involving books. There’s barely any books worth reading here.” He glanced at the shelf, which is, apparently, full of manuals and figurines.

Having no clue, Obito simple shrugged his shoulders. When suddenly, the screen comes to light up their mood once more as the show continues.

At school lunch, chatters and small talks flood the cafeteria. The Hatake, with nowhere to sit, went to Rin, Obito, and Gai’s area.

“And uncle Gumball then took Finn’s baby teeth and turned them into baby Finn-something clones!” The Uchiha distinctively yapped. The two only chuckle at his story.

Kakashi went and sat with them, then asked, “What’s all this about?” With a tone where Obito had piqued the younger’s interest.

“Oh, Kakashi! Well, Rin, Gai, and I were talking about our favorite TV shows and- hey! What’s your favorite by the way?”

The Hatake boy almost choked on his food. Of course, he can’t just tell them that he haven’t watched any normal TV shows that a child can watch, not even for starters. He also couldn’t say that he had no interest in watching any of those things; Obito would just screw that statement and then proceed to berate him with no shame. He had no interest in experiencing that.

So, he pursed his lips, then opened it once more, and clamped it again, and open, shut, open-

“TV shows? Well mine is Sesame Street!” Gai, the ever clueless boy replied with deep enthusiasm. “Of course, it shows just how much I maintain my Eternal Youthfulness!”

“What?! You’re just being childish!” Obito frowned, but he had highly expected it from Gai.

Rin sighs from their even more childish banter, wondering. “If Kurenai were here, she’d talk about specific movies like A Wrinkle in time. She had even recommended me to watch it!”

Kakashi sparked his eyes in amusement. “A Wrinkle in Time? I’ve read a book like that before.”

They all gaped at him, dumbfounded. His schoolmates nodded in silent agreement that he might be a bookworm than a TV lover.

“Yo!”

Then, Genma appeared, with toothpick between his mouth.

“Oh? Genma! We were just talking about what TV shows we like.”

“TV shows? Meh.” His tray was carefully placed on the table, then continued, “But I do like to watch Grizzy and the Lemmings.”

‘Rin, Gai, and Obito apparently grimaced at the thought of watching that show.’ Kakashi noted. Though, he still can’t seem to reply just what the hell he liked as a child.

Silence cloaked the entire table, but the cafeteria still managed to become as busy as it is in their ears. Until Ebisu followed suit, just right beside Gai and Genma.

“So what is this about? I hear nothing from you guys.” He awkwardly greeted, attempting to alleviate the silence.

“Hmm. They were talking about what TV shows they like best.” Kakashi replied in order to make up for his prior speechlessness. “But Genma said that he likes ‘Grizzy and the Lemmings.’”

Ebisu made a gagging expression, thinking the same as the others were. “Seriously Genma? You like that show?”

“What? Of course not! But I do like the comedy there.”

“Nah, I think Mr. Bean has ‘the’ better comedy.”

Obito choked on his meal. He could’ve expected something like an argument steaming from the table, especially with so many students being there.

“Hey, hey, hey, hey. How about we just tell each other what TV shows we love, okay?” He looked at his phone to check the time and answered, “Um…I can’t actually decide if I’d say Adventure Time, Regular Show, or..or…the one with the blue cat!”

Rin followed after him.

“Isn’t that called The Amazing World of Gumball, Obito?” She corrected, earning a small ‘thank you’ from him. “But I would say-“

“Doc McStuffins!” Genma chuckled at the joke he made, but not a single soul found it funny.

“I was about to say this, actually.” Rin pulled out a local disk with a label that Kakashi had read as ‘Gravity Falls’.

Obito had his jaws open, surprised to what she brought.

“I mean, Gai already said that he likes Sesame Street. No one could rival that much childishness!” Rin finished her meal, wiped her mouth from the crumbs, and drank her beverage before she goes on, “Ebisu. You said you preferred Mr. Bean, right?”

Earning a nod from him, Kakashi goes pale upon realizing that they’d ask the same question to him.

While they chatter and chatter, the Hatake thinks to himself:

I can’t just tell them I recently watched My Little Pony with Obito last weekend. They’d think I’m too girly, or worse, they’d assume that I’ve never watched something in my life! Father… just- wait a minute. I’ve got an idea-

“-kashi?”

“Hmm?”

“Well, it’s your turn.” They all looked at him, like half a dozen of meerkats staring at a distance, sans Kakashi.

“About..the TV show I like?”

Rin hummed in certainty, only waiting for him to answer.

Kakashi thinks for a moment, then said:

“Maa, I actually like Teletubbies.”
