A Deer and A Wolf (May we love despite our nature)
Summary
The Forest is dense, As they're known to be. Today, however, the normal chirps, squeaks, and scuttles of creatures are absent. The sound of heavy rain pouring down upon the muddy ground like bullets, the thunder off in the distance as flashes of light in the sky reveal the destruction of the storm. Her footsteps are heavy, breathing ragged, how long as she ran? How long until she's a deer caught in headlights?

The Forest is dense, As they're known to be. Today, however, the normal chirps, squeaks, and scuttles of creatures are absent. The sound of heavy rain pouring down upon the muddy ground like bullets, the thunder off in the distance as flashes of light in the sky reveal the destruction of the storm. Her footsteps are heavy, breathing ragged, how long as she ran? How long until she's a deer caught in headlights?

Those questions can only be in her head for a few seconds before the mud causes her to slip crashing into the wet ground, pebbles and sticks cling to her now muddy clothes and skin as she tries to get up, exhaustion making such a simple task daunting. Her once beautiful orange curls of hair, now knotted and covered in mud, her green dull eyes straining to see in the darkness of the forest.

But her appearance isn’t important, she forces herself up and runs. Runs from something she doesn’t remember, she remembers it's important that she runs and doesn’t stop. So she does just that, she runs faster than she ever has.

Trees are blurs as she runs, she tries not to slow when she falls, tries not to cry at the tearing pain of cuts covered in dirt, ignores the pelting rain, barely flinches at the thunder. This forest must go on forever. Why does it never end-

A road. Streetlights. She's finally out. The forest isn’t trapping her like she's a mouse in a glass maze. She bursts out of the forest, breath heavy, and…oh she's crying, when did she start sobbing? The road is icy, and she slips on it, letting out a cry as she falls to the asphalt. She's on a highway, but no cars are present, the rain is keeping most people off. With the last of her energy she crawls to the side of the road and rests on a guardrail and sleep threatens to fall over her, pain that aches so much keeping her from sleeping.

After an hour, sleep almost falling over her, many cars that past her. Didn’t see her, didn’t care for her. One finally pulls over, frantically opening their door and rushing over, she can’t make out their features, she's too tired for that. The person up next to her quickly, looking over her.

“Oh crikey, what is a pretty girl like you doing out here…?” The voice is sweet, a smooth and comforting Australian accent.

She’s too tired to respond, words are far back in her tired mind, and she doesn’t have the energy to pull them out. She can only sit there and breathe heavily as she slowly bleeds out.

“Come on, let’s get you some help.” She’s picked up by strong arms, and carried over to the car, the door opens and after the person moves some stuff and places a towel over the seat before she's set down on a warm seat and the door is closed. She doesn’t bother to pay more attention, as sleep falls over her.

The surroundings are unfamiliar to her when she wakes up, groggily she sits up, white walls, cold blue lights, everything's white…oh she's in a hospital. She yawns and looks at herself, there's a cast on her leg and bandages all over her body, her normal clothes gone now just a hospital gown. When she looks up around the room, she sees someone. The person who helped her.

The person is asleep in a chair, they have long brown hair, straight, but it looks to have some fluffiness to it. They’re tall. Very tall, she can tell just looking at them. They’re wearing a white shirt with a black jacket over it, moon and stars embroidered over every inch. Their shorts feel unfit for the weather, but whose she to judge.

After a few more minutes of sitting there doing nothing, it hits her how hungry she is when her stomach growls. She glances around before finding the call button in the room and clicking it, patiently waiting until the door opens and in steps the doctor. The doctor had messy brown hair with some green highlights, but he seemed pretty old, maybe 50, he had a prosthetic arm and a prosthetic eye as it's a bright red shade, at least he’s having fun with what he lost.

He smiles and walks over to the bed “Hello there, I’m here to take care of you, please just call me Doc. Do you have anything you need?” He questions and looks down at her with a caring smile.

She pauses before she speaks, she hadn’t spoken in a while, she barely remembers what her voice sounds like.

“Food…” She mutters, voice raspy and hoarse, and she coughs after speaking

Doc chuckles faintly, “I’ll get you some water with that,” Doc goes to leave, but before he opened the door he pauses, “Before I leave, we do need your name.”

She looks up at him, trying to speak as loud as she can so he can hear her, “G-Gemini Taylor… Or just Gem…” Gem responds, hating how hoarse her voice sounded.

“Well Gem, I’ll go get your food and water” Doc said before finally leaving, the door gently closing behind him.

Gem hears a groan from where the person who helped her was, and she watches as they wake up, stretching before looking up at where Gem is sitting up.

“Oh, you're awake!” They exclaim, getting out of the chair and next to the hospital bed Gem was currently sat in, “I’m so glad you're okay! I was so worried when I saw you out there, how are you feeling?” They ask, clearly still happy to see she was okay, happy someone they didn’t know was okay.

“Okay…” Gem responds, her voice getting more used to talking.

“Well that's better than bad!” they cheer before clearing their throat, “What's your name by the way?”

“Gemini, Or just Gem” Gem mutters, still feeling tired and hungry

“That’s a neat name! I’m Pearl! Pearl Moon!”
