Chapter 5

There was a beat of silence as they all stared at each other.

Kakashi shifted, hissing lightly at the flash of pain in his hands.

Minato at the sound instantly moved, startling Kakashi at his sudden movement and shattering the stilted silence.

"Kakashi! Are you okay?!"

Minato swiftly knelt in front of Kakashi, hands grasping at his shoulders, his eyes quickly roving at Kakashi's form quickly searching for any injuries he might have missed.

Kakashi stared at him with wide eyes, before his expression abruptly shuttered and went eerily black.

There was an awkward pause.

Kakashi then scoffed, rolling his eyes.

"I'm fine, Minato-Sensei. You don't have to be so dramatic" he said flatly

Minato internally sweat dropped at Kakashi's blunt response. He honestly kind of expected that response.

'At least he back to normal for the the most part'

"You didn't look fine before, dattebane," Kushina said dryly. Because Kushina at the end of the day was straightforward and blunt, and did not hold back any verbal punches.

"Well I'm fine now, it was just a bad nightmare, it's not a big deal", Kakashi instantly snapped back. His annoyance was visible.

"Not a big deal! Kakashi you were having a panic attack and you weren't breathing!" Minato sputtered, voice rising. He had been terrified for Kakashi, internally his instincts screamed at Kakashi’s blatant disregard of his own wellbeing.

He forcefully pushed it to the back of his mind, he would come back to that later.

But right now Kakashi comes first.

"It was a one time thing and it won't happen again, now can you let me get up from the floor, it isn't exactly comfortable" Kakashi said flatly, glaring at the floor resolutely looking away from them.

Minato startled, realizing Kakashi was still partially sprawled on the floor.

"Ah, sorry.." Minato said sheepishly.

Minato quickly stood up helping Kakashi back up on the bed, ignoring Kakashi’s glare at the action as he did so, though it seemed half hearted at best.

Kakashi was clearly still exhausted, his movement was sluggish, and his hands were still slightly trembling.

He didn’t care that much if he gained some of Kakashi ire, he was too concerned about Kakashi at this point after he had exerted himself so much both mentally and emotionally.

Carefully easing him down, Kakashi grunted a bit as he flopped back on to the bed.

Kushina coughed, snapping Minato out of his thoughts, "So are you gonna tell us about what this is all about, nee?"

“No, it’s none of your business and I’m fine”, Kakashi said, rolling his eyes, “Minato-sensei is just overreacting like always”

“Are you sure? You haven’t even reacted to the fact that you’re not wearing your mask, dattebane”, Kushina deadpanned.

Kakashi glared at her before pausing, realization flashing on his face, hand flying up instantly.

"Where's my mask?" Kakashi asked sharply. His hand made an aborted movement to cover the bottom half of his face.

'Fuck, I forgot to grab a spare mask' Minato thought. He had hoped Kakashi wouldn’t realize that his face was completely bare for the world to see, he mentally sent a quick prayer to Kami that Kakashi wouldn’t kill or stab him for this.

Minato grimaced, ‘Thank you, Kushina, for throwing me to the wolves’

"I took off your mask because you were having trouble breathing and I forgot to grab you a spare, sorry Kakashi", He hastily explained, before Kakashi could decide that retribution in the form of multiple stab wounds was acceptable.

Kushina snorted, raising an eyebrow as if saying ‘Seriously?’.

"I was panicking and it wasn't exactly on my list of priorities", Minato sputtered out.

Kakashi looked at him thoroughly unimpressed.

Minato felt oh so incredibly judged.

‘You forget just one thing’

"Kushina, can you go make something for Kakashi to eat, please?" He finally huffed out,  blatantly changing the subject.

He tactfully ignored Kakashi’s look of disbelief as he turned back to look at Kushina.

"No problem, I'm gonna whip up some quick ramen. Ramen is good for the soul after all, dattebane!" Kushina said cheerfully, although you could still see concern in her eyes.

"Only you think that, Kushina-san", Kakashi retorted, his voice completely deadpan.

Kushina squawked out in offense.

"I do not!, and I told you to call me Kushina nee-san!"

Kushina whirled around, huffing as she strides towards the kitchen.

"Ramen is great, I’ll show you", she shouted as she went.

Minato took a second to internally mourn for his sanity, before he firmly closed the door. He waited until he was sure Kushina was out of earshot.

He turned back to Kakashi, his expression calm and serious.

Kakashi eyed him back wearily.

"So Kakashi, what really happened?"
