Summary
What is love in the face of fate? What is fate in the hands of a god?--Hatake Kakashi doesn't want a guardian to complete missions outside of the village as a young jonin. But Minato-sensei is dead, and he needs a caretaker once again. The village system tries giving him back to his soulmate and her (probable?) child—not that he plans on seeing them again. This sucks.---Sekai Izanami has known her soulmate since he was born, even if he never knew her. Two things are for sure: this age gap would've gotten her arrested in her last life, and she sure as hell won't let anything happen to her family. She's going to protect them even if it kills her.---The village is wrong. If it takes the wrath of a fallen angel to prove that, then so be it.Izanami-no-mikoto is one hell of a namesake to live up to, and Izanami doesn't plan on falling short of it.

SHE'S ALWAYS KNOWN THAT NINJAS ARE ROMANTICS. Kakashi is no different, despite his background.

Izanami has waited her whole life for him to come to her, to be with her, to love her, that it's no big surprise when it actually happens.

"Hello," Kakashi says sheepishly on her doorstep. "It's been a while."

He rubs the back of his head with one hand while offering flowers with the other. His body language is open and needy, probably because she's his soulmate, so he trusts her.

He's changed so much.

He hasn't changed at all.

He's still the little boy she took care of all those years ago—the one who she teased and spoiled and loved like he was Kangiten; like he was a second close-but-not-quite brother.

He's still that considerate child of fourteen, who hesitated outside of her apartment before haltingly leaving, so heavy with grief he didn't even notice her watching.

He's also a young man she barely knows—one who is so sweet and kind that she's already halfway into the process of loving him again. He's awkward, but it's makes enough sense to her that it seems cute instead.

Izanami smiles and allows him in. Kakashi doesn't know she's mildly allergic to pollen, but it's not like it's in her medical records or anything, so he wouldn't have known even after checking. It's cute though, how he brought flowers like he's copying a romance manga (or that smut series he likes—the one every fanfic writer says is either Wattpad preteen-written 2014 One Direction fanfiction level or 'surprisingly deep' purple prose—but she's never read it so she wouldn't know).

"It's nice to see you."

She smiles at him. He eye-smiles at her.

"Yes, it is."

She's done much, for his sake and for his smiles, while she was waiting.

It's nice, not having to wait anymore.
