Rewind

Team 7 was rushing toward the open field where their village mates were trapped in between the enemy shinobi. Ever since the rumors of the loss of the bijuu the village was attacked several times, just three times the previous week. The leaf was on guard, the allies turning into enemies and children having to fight in open battlefields, peace further and further away.

“Katon: fireball jutsu!” Obito’s voice raised up in the silence around him, his fireball forcing the enemy to scatter away. The young Uchiha wasn’t known for his sharp mind, however he could tell the enemy was still around. The situation was critical after all and with the knowledge of Konoha not having their Jinchuuriki anymore, they had become cocky.

“Is there any critical injured shinobi?” Obito asked, kunai in hand checking his surroundings. The leaf shinobi mentioned two kids passed out

“Alright, take these. Minato-sensei will teleport you back to the village” he explained before rushing back into the forest. Seconds later the group vanished while Obito reunited with his team. “Rin are you ready?” he asked jumping on the branch next to her as the girl nodded.

“Yes. Kakashi is guiding the enemy into the traps right this moment. Minato-sensei and Kushina-san are proceeding with the seals so they wont escape” she nodded handling Obito his counter-seal, now all they had to do was wait for the signal of their teammate and proceed with the fight.

The younger of them all didn’t betray thei expectations. His lightning jutsu was loud enough to be heard and signal the entire team to enter the action. The fear was palpable in the duo but they needed to buy some time for their teachers to join the fight. Kakashi was heading toward the enemies with a ferocity that neither teammates ever noticed, he was hitting enemies with his Chidori. Maybe the enemies weren’t realizing how strong this team was, too much into their cockiness to do so. But even the luck of the young student came to an end. When Kakashi developed Chidori and used it in an open battlefield, he revealed a huge weakness into it: accuracy. The speed was so great that Kakashi couldn’t notice the movement of the enemies and this left him open to counterattacks. It seemed that after a while his enemies realized that countering Chidori and sending young Kakashi against a tree.

“Kakashi!” Obito yelled watching his teammate struggle to get up, the enemy was aiming at him with a kunai in hand “Get out of the way!” the Uchiha rushed toward him. A flash of yellow appearing in front of the silver haired student, a grunt of pain escaping his lips when stabbed. It wasn’t any better. They were just trying to buy time for Minato but now Minato was out of the games the students didn’t know what to do.

Kakashi was sure the world had went silent. The voices of the fight suddenly getting muffled and his vision start to blurry. As the world started to vanish, Kakashi was sure to hear a deep growl. 

What the others heard was worse. Obito and Rin rushed toward Minato trying to get him to get up. Minato was trying to calm them down, his eyes focused on the enemy whom dropped his kunai in fear. There was an order about Minato and the stone shinobi was genuinely trembling.

“I’m okay” the blonde smiled at his panicked student before turning around to check on Kakashi. The silver haired kid seemed shocked, maybe terrified, Minato wasn’t sure. But before the blonde could say something to calm him, Kakashi’s eyes turned red, a cat shaped irises watching the enemy back off. A loud roaring escaping his mouth and red chakra surround the student and messing with his entire body. His hair became messier, Minato was sure he could see fangs behind the mask, and his nails started to turn into claws. The posture assumed was also extremely unnatural but a change Minato had already seen. 

“It was a lie!” someone in the enemy troop yelled watching the young Hatake’s red chakra assume a fox liked appearance “They didn’t lose the bijuu! They have a different Jinchuuriki!” 

The events were enough to force the stone shinobi start running away from the scene. An injured ‘run at sight’ and a Jinchuuriki out of control, they didn’t stand a chance. And while Minato was standing in shock, Kakashi didn’t waste a single second. He immediately rushed toward the enemy shinobi clawing each one of them with sheer force and not sparing even one of them. The brutal attack continued till golden chains grabbed onto Kakashi starting to suppress the bijuu chakra and it seemed that it worked because the chakra vanished releasing Kakashi from it and causing him to pass out.

“Minato” Kushina’s voice dragged him from the sudden shock “How did this happen?” she asked while Minato and the other two students walked up to Kakashi with the blonde lifting Kakashi’s shirt. The eight Trigrams sealing starting to vanish from it. No comments were made of it as Minato took Kakashi in his arms and looked at his team 

“He needs medical attention. Let’s get back to the village. We need to talk to the Hokage” he sternly spoke.

“How did this happen, Hiruzen?!” Danzo nearly growled at the council “How did the anbu fail to protect Kushina?!”

“I interrogated the anbu guarding her. They claimed to not have seen anything out of the ordinary. They reported that they saw Minato near her and then leaving. He had returned 5 minutes later. The only difference is that the second time he had been seen, Minato wasn’t wearing the Hokage rope” Hiruzen explained

“and to them it wsn’t weird to see Minato with the Hokage rope?” Danzo shouted 

“Calm down Danzo. This isn’t about Minato and the Hokage rope. We have more important things to discuss about” Inoichi spoke “please Minato-san. Share your concerns. I can feel your brain itching even without my jutsu” 

“Right” Minato nodded “We already know about the Hatake clan’s Kekkai Genkai” he started as the council fell silent. Having Sakumo lived in the village they were well aware of the immense power the Hatake clan harnessed. “We are aware of their ability to manage to adapt their chakra to whatever chakra the enemy is using. We saw it first hand when Sakumo and the sannins trained. He was able to use all three sage modes and defeat them. Said kekkai genkai allowed him to manipulate the nine tails chakra when he tried to help Kushina into learning more about it. As an Hatake himself, we must be aware of Kakashi managing to manipulate such power as well. During my training with him I know he hasn’t tapped into the hidden power but considering the situation we must take in account that he can awaken it with the power of the kyuubi”

“Which is why he shouldn’t be let lose” Danzo interrupted him “Kakashi becoming a jinchuuriki was a gamble done by whoever did this. Either they were aware of this Kekkai Genkai or not. The Hatake clan ultimately killed each other because of their ability. My suggestion is to let me train the Hatake and turn him into the asset Kushina failed to be”

“You mean weapon? It is well known that your organization isn’t the best into thinking for the best of the village” Fugaku argued “The best would be to have the Hatake train with us Uchiha. Our sharingan can keep the bijuu chakra in check. We faced it before. We can discipline him and make sure he doesn’t get corrupted”

“Discipline him? Who do you think you’re fooling Fugaku?” Danzo stood up “The Uchiha is well known to be too emotional!” he growled “Kakashi needs a steady hand, he needs rigorous training. If he was to follow you he’d care only about his interests. The root serves the village, he must follow me”

“Following you? The root is an organization that cares about nothing to achieve their goals. Your goals. You aren’t suited to train the Hatake. If he was to lose control, you don’t have the instruments to stop it”

“Enough!” Kushina raised up “Stop talking about Kakashi like he’s some sort of weapon! He is a ninja of the hidden leaf. He serves his own village! Kakashi doesn’t need discipline or control, he has it already. He lacks teamwork! He lacks trust toward those that surround him because of his father’s demise. With both of you we’ll end up losing both him and the bijuu” she told the two

Fugaku didn’t comment but it seemed that Danzo wasn’t satisfied

“Teamwork? He’s a jinchuuriki. Teamwork isn’t needed. We were attacked multiple times only because we didn’t have a Bijuu to protect us! Just the knowledge of it let others attack us relentlessly! Finally we have it back and we must use it to show other villages that we aren’t defensless!” danzo argued

“I have a suggestion” Jiraya interrupted the cold and angry chit chat with his carefree spirit “I had the chance to look at the seal on Kakashi. I have familiarity with it and as one of my toads explained…I have the key to said seal. Whoever used it knew we had the key. So my suggestion is to aid Minato with his team. Young Kakashi lacks teamwork. He is a follower of the rules, he is a disciplined and strong chunin. I remind you all he graduated at 5 and became chunin at 6. His discipline and hard work cannot be undermined. Minato is also a master into the Uzumaki seals thanks to Kushina. Control over the bijuu is about the seals. The important thing is to train Kakashi into trusting those around him is he were to survive the bijuu’s influence”

“I agree with you Jiraya” Hiruzen agreed relieved his student could keep a close eye on Kakashi. “I also suggest for you to oversee Kakashi’s training. He has to stay with his team and continue his training under the guide of Minato. The rest of the council agrees?” he asked. Everyone agreed. Fugaku was just satisfied an Uchiha was still with the bijuu. Despite Obito’s reputation, Fugaku knew he could ask the younger about the kyuubi. He was relieved Kakashi wasn’t to stay with Danzo. Danzo clearly wasn’t satisfied with the decision but he had to agree. The council would always lean into the belief that having a sannin around the bijuu was the best choice.

Jiraya walked into Kakashi’s hospital room. The doctors already mentioned Kakashi’s chakra coils start to adapt to the new guest and the sannin had to wonder if his kekkai genkai was already awakened. If so, by the knowledge he had, Kakashi needed a better access to the coils of the bijuu.

“How did you do it?” Jiraya asked to Sakumo as the silver haired man got rid of the toad sage mode

“Do what?” Sakumo asked innocently

“Use sage mode! I was the first human to master it! And I’m teaching Minato!”

“Oh, that. It’s my clan’s Kekkai Genkai. The Hatake clan can replicate for a brief time any kind of power they come in contact with. For example, if I were to touch Kushina, I could temporarly use her bijuu. Touchin you allowed me to use your sage mode. Chakra is blue, when applied an element it changes colors. But us Hatake have white chakra which is yin chakra. It changes colors depending on what we are replicating” he tried to explain with simple words “the master of this type of chakra though requires time”

“Would you be able to copy someone’s sharingan?” Jiraya asked in awe

“yes” Sakumo nodded “although that’s a chakra we cannot fully control. We can copy someone’s actual state so even if I clone the sharingan or the bijuu the power levels would stay the same of the user. For example if the Uchiha has one tomoe sharingan I cannot manipulate it into two. And if we take Fugaku’s sharingan and I copy his three tomoes, I still cannot convert it into a mangekyo while Fugako can do it whenever”

“What about the bijuu? Would you need to copy an Uzumaki chakra coils to sustain it?”

“I think you’re getting mixed informations. We cannot copy the chakra coils. We can only copy the cahkra manipulation they made. Like your sage mode. It’s the nature of your chakra that changed and how you’re using it. I cannot replicate, however, the quantity of chkra reserves someone has. So if I were to copy the bijuu chakra, it would be extremely heavy on me because it requires too much chakra, alongside the sharingan”

“That makes more sense” Jiraya nodded

“However if an Hatake would have become a jinchuuriki things would be a lot different. To understand this you need to know that the longer we are in contact with the chakra of the one we are cloning, the better our body adapts to the new power. If I were to touch you for a few seconds, my body adapts to the sage mode to hold it for a few seconds, if I were to keep topuching you while using the sage mode, I can keep it as long as I hold contact. Considering the bijuu stays into the body, our body adapts to contain it. The contact is continuos so the body can keep up with the chakra of the bijuu. It’s different than the touching method. The touching doesn’t affect our chakra coils but a sealed Bijuu leaks chakra into our coils allowing our kekkai genkai to adapt our body to use it continuously”

“That is overpowered” Jiraya argued

“True. However this same kekkai genkai messes uour bodies. The Hatake clan ultimately decided to end this torture. I will die too soon, Jiraya. Through the years I used too much of my Kekkai Genkai so there are a few things you should know. If Kakashi was to ever be used by the enemy as a jinchuuriki, even if it’s our own village…remember this. The seals trapping the bijuu don’t send enough chakra for the body to adapt to it and it can turn deadly. However if the seal allowed more chakra leakage…it will allow him to adapt to the bijuu fatser and easier. Don’t ever talk to anyone about this. The Hatake can master a bijuu chakra better than anyone else but if the enemies were to know it…Kakashi’s life will be over”

Kakashi didn’t know it. He knew nothing about his clan, how their kekkai genkai caused so much physical and mental pain that it ended up killing Sakumo himself, the strongest of his clan. The hatred Kakashi had toward his father was justified but misinformed. Jiraya had promised not to speak about it but he had wondered if it was the right call. Especially now.

He sighed before putting his hand on Kakashi’s stomach, the seal enterin in plain sight. All Jiraya had to do was activate the key and after a brief moment he twisted the seal open. Just enough to accelerate the process. 

“I wonder…where this will lead”
