8 - Reunited (kinda)

Sakura truly had no idea how this happened. One minute, she was in her family garden, listening to her brother as he read her a story, letting the trees whisper to her, and the next second, her mother was brushing her barely there cotton candy strands and dressing her in a red piece, chatting to her papa about their dinner plans.

Wrapped up tight and stuck to her papa’s chest, she listened as her mother recounted their interaction from two weeks ago. Kaede is holding her hand, gleefully swinging it to and fro. It seems the two mothers bonded as women and kunoichi do.

Sakura snorted in her mind and dribbled in the outside world. Her papa used his handkerchief to collect the dribble instantly, having no doubt mastered this action years ago.

His loud laugh scared some passers-by, “Of course, you bonded with an Uchiha so quickly. It seems you got your grandfather's love for them after all.” Kizashi’s chuckles vibrated through her chest and she felt herself dozing off.

That comment wakes Sakura right up though, Grandfather?

“She found that funny as well. I didn’t think many people remembered my original family clan. Most people usually only focus on Nee-sama..” Mebuki’s voice tapered off, but Sakura still caught it.

She tried blinking to stay awake, Nee-sama? Does Mama have a sister?

“Well, ignore them. At least your father isn’t around anymore to antagonize you.”

Mebuki just hummed as she tightened her grip on her husband's arm. They were both dressed relatively nicely. Her mama had done her makeup and her papa had spent more time shaving his face and shaping his petals. Mama even braided Kaede’s hair in a fishtail style, letting it rest over his shoulder.

Even with her head pressed mostly to her papa’s chest, she could make out the roads they were walking through, if barely.

Before Kurama’s attack, the Uchiha compound was right by the Senju compound. After the great move, their original compound was torn down to make room for more administrative buildings and a few shops.

Fuck Danzō. I hope he doesn’t exist in this world. But if he does... Sakura vowed.

Her parents continued their walk, commenting on the little things. Her mama laughed at her papa's poor jokes, her papa smiled lovingly at her headstrong mama, and Kaede giggled happily. And though her mama’s chakra dulled and turned frigid the closer their group got to the Senju and Uchiha districts, she ignored it. Sakura began to doze off again, the late summer air making her drowsy. She was once again about to fall asleep when three distinct signatures slammed into her. Signatures she would know anywhere, even if she had little sensing skills.

The feeling of lightening striking the ground, thunder above a campfire, and the sun bearing down on a windy day invaded her senses. Sakura immediately jolted awake and started squirming. She hadn’t even realized they had made it past the compound gates and guards and were standing outside the main family house.

“Sacchan?” Her papa asked concerned just as the front door opened.

Mikoto opened the door excitedly and when Sakura turned her head to look at her, tears pricked her eyes. Her vision was for some odd reason, developing very quickly, compared to most infants, even the shinobi-born ones. Before she could make out distinct shapes and colors from afar, and needed someone up close before she could make out details. But now, she could see well even if they were a foot or two away.

So her reaction to seeing both Sasuke and Naruto’s moms standing at the door, very excited, one holding a baby and the other very pregnant, was reasonable in her opinion. Sakura let herself cry for her boys, Kakashi included.

By the Sage, Sasuke looks exactly like his mom! And Naruto might have his dad’s coloring, but his features are all Kushina.
