Chapter 1
Hi, my name is Sakura Haruno! This is your one and only warning that this is a super secret journal that you definitely shouldn't be reading! So turn back now before I find you and knock your block off!
I'm a Genin, which means I'm in training to become a ninja. I'm 12 years old and today I'm starting this journal! I have a lot of things to say, but some of them are better to keep inside. As a compromise, I'm going to start writing them down instead!
I met my teacher a little while ago and was sorted into team 7 with Sasuke Uchiha and Naruto Uzumaki. My teacher's name is Kakashi, and he's an experienced ninja. It's really weird, he always has one eye covered and wears a mask. At first, I wasn't really sure how I felt about him since he fell for one of Naruto's dumb pranks. It was kind of funny, though.
You'd think a senior ninja wouldn't fall for something as simple as a chalkboard eraser wedged at the top of a door. I guess he isn't a morning person. Not only that, but he's always reading some smutty book! Every time he's late to meet with us, he's brought it with him!
I shouldn't be hard on him, though. Kakashi is a really powerful ninja.
In order for us to be accepted as Genin, we had to win a challenge. He told us we'd be taking a test. To pass the test, we'd have to individually manage to take one of two bells from him. There wasn't a third bell, which made us think that one of us wouldn't be accepted as a Genin. We also wouldn't be allowed to have lunch, but I that's less important.
Turns out, this was all a trick!
We were all certain we'd failed the test, but Kakashi told us we'd get a second chance after lunch. He let me and Sasuke eat, but didn't give any food to Naruto and then left.
I couldn't believe it when Sasuke went behind Kakashi's back to offer Naruto food! But I definitely think he was right to do so. He said that to keep up our strength as a team, it was smarter to share then to keep to ourselves.
As much as I didn't want to let Naruto have my food, I agreed with Sasuke. He's lucky he's so cute!
But just as I was offering my food to Naruto, Kakashi suddenly appeared! I swear, he scared me to death, I thought we'd never be ninja! But when he told us we passed, I could see in his eyes he was really proud of us.
I'd never seen a look like that from an adult.
Naruto may be an idiot, but he's part of my team now. We learned a lesson then. That ninja who don't follow orders may be scum, but they're nowhere near as bad as the ninja who abandons their team.
I guess that means I have to make the most of being on the same team as an idiot like Naruto. Maybe it won't be so bad. Sasuke would probably want me to be nicer to him, anyways. Especially after what I said to him before Kakashi's test.
When I think about the way Sasuke looked at me then, I feel like there's a boulder in my gut. My blood runs cold just remembering it. Like I disgusted him.
It's my fault. I shouldn't have been so cruel behind Naruto's back.
And I'll have an opportunity to prove that I can do better, too. Because we have a new mission soon! A C rank mission, which is higher than the missions Genin usually get. Naruto complained about it first. I don't think he has a filter at all.
Then again, it was getting boring just having to round up people's lost pets.
Soon we're going to leave the village that I've called my home my entire life. It's kind of scary, but I'm still excited!
We're escorting a bridge-builder named Tazuna back to the Land of Waves. It's a place I've only ever read about in books, some few days walk from here.
Apparently, the Land of Waves doesn't have a hidden village like the Land of Fire does. That's where I'm from! We don't expect to run into much trouble on our journey, but that doesn't mean it won't be tougher than our usual tasks. After all, we've never actually left the village before.
I wonder what the world is like outside these gates.
