Chapter 2
We were attacked by an upper rank ninja on our way to the Land of Waves with Tazuna. I really did think I might've died protecting him! At least, until Sasuke threw himself in front of us, too.
Sasuke is really brave. He has to be, I think. He's the only one of his family left in Konoha.
I think it's part of being a boy, too. You have to be brave.
Sometimes I wonder what makes boys so great, anyways.
I always thought Naruto was annoying. I guess it's just my luck that Sasuke would be like him in a couple ways, as much as I don't want to admit that.
They have some kind of weird rivalry going on.
Even after the fight with that Chunin while we were catching our breath, Sasuke still found time to taunt Naruto for being scared. And what does Naruto do about it? Well, he stabs himself!
Okay, that's a little misleading. He did stab his own hand, but the real reason he did it was to bleed out the poison he'd been struck with. He said something about a promise never to freeze up in battle again before Kakashi told him he was bleeding out. Then he started losing it while Kakashi bandaged the idiot's wound.
Turns out Tazuna knew he could expect an attack like this. He'd been keeping from us that the Land of Waves was under the thumb of a corrupt organization. Whatever bridge he was supposed to be building there, they'd do whatever it takes to stop it.
Even kill him.
I don't know what I would've done if anybody ended up dead. I don't think I could handle losing them. I hope they feel the same about me.
At least, I think they do. They must! Sasuke and Naruto jumped into battle to protect Tazuna and I, and Kakashi too. Kakashi didn't want us to fight at all. He was ready to die for us to escape.
That means I have to fight, too. I have to do my best as a ninja so we can survive!
Right now, we've been resting and training in the Land of Waves. Well, Kakashi has been resting. Naruto and Sasuke have been training. I'm here looking after Tazuna.
Not that he can't take care of himself, he just isn't trained in combat. He's welcomed us into his home and I guess I did kind of catch up to Kakashi's lesson faster than Naruto and Sasuke did. They're somewhere outside learning to use their chakra to walk on vertical planes. So… Climbing trees the hard way.
I try not to brag about my book smarts, but I'm not unaware of them by any means. I study really hard! To be a great ninja, I have to know the best theory to get stronger. Kakashi has said I have great control over my chakra, and that I'm really bright! Maybe even enough to learn genjutsu someday.
The ninja who attacked us while we were travelling is named Zabuza. Kakashi believes he isn't dead, which I think is why he's training Naruto and Sasuke so hard.
I wonder what I'd be able to do if we were attacked here.
Why didn't he just give me something new to learn?
I hope Kakashi recovers from his fight soon. I'm getting a little bored of waiting on the sidelines, here.
