Eyes Open
Kagami breathes in as she clenches and unclenches her hands, looking down at the bright red crescents now dug into her palms.
“Eight years- years"
She says with a shaky voice and then drops her head into her palms with yet another shuttering breath, eyes squeezed tightly shut. Kagami can feel the hot tears beginning to form at the corner of her eyes as she drowns out the periodic beeping of machines surrounding her.
After taking in another breath, she slowly begins to activate the muscles she can in this position to get a feel for just how badly her muscles atrophied. Her doctor may yell at her but eh she will deal with that later. Slowly she rolls her shoulders and moves her arms in different directions to get a feel for her upper body which unsurprisingly is even worse than it was before. But she never focused much on upper body so that isn't a large concern. Next is her legs which she does a simple stretch by pulling both up to her chest before stretching them outwards and leaning downwards toward her toes.

Is all she hisses out at the tightness and the very apparent lack of muscle in her legs as she drops them back down after only a few seconds. Kagami knows immediately that on top of physical therapy she is going to have to do a bit of muscle build up on the side and eat protein heavy meals. Even then it's unlikely she’ll be able to build back up all the muscle she had easily.

She lets out a miniscule sigh as she massages her muscles, digging her fingers into the meager muscles as she thinks.

However, as she feels new chakra signatures appear in the doorway and by the windows she tenses, and she barely manages to not funnel chakra towards her eyes. Her instincts are screaming at her as she tenses despite herself and her eyes lock onto the door as it is pushed open.

Kagami’s hands clench down onto the fabric of her hospital gown as she watches the Sandaime walk into the room, and she tense as she feels the subtle chakra signatures of the ANBU take places around the room.

“Sandaime-sama”

She says tilting her head forward slightly in a show of respect as she lets out a shaky breath before bringing her gaze back up to look at the man. Kagami can think of no reason for the man to come visit her, in all honesty she would expect Fugaku-sama to have come to visit her as the Uchiha Head.

“Uchiha Kagami correct? It's a pleasure to see you awake after so long”

The Sandaime’s voice is kind and shows a small amount of weakness. A facade because everyone knows that he is not a frail man, and no shinobi survives to his age unless they are powerful. Something many in Konoha forget but the Uchiha have always maintained caution because he is the one who holds the power, and they are no strangers to what power can do to a person if unchecked.

Kagami inclines her head again in a show of thanks, but she also barely manages to hide the wince as he says her name. She’s after all named after her grandfather, the former Uchiha Kagami who was the Sandaime’s teammate.

“Thank you for visiting me Sandaime-sama however why exactly have you visited me? I’m no one of consequence and am only a chunnin”

Kagami is telling partial truths with these words because everyone currently in the room knows she was ANBU Crow. But still the fact that the Sandaime is visiting her is worrying because she wasn’t on an ANBU mission, she was with her teammates her a border patrol so the first people to be notified of her awakening should have been her family. Usually, a visit from the Hokage means something large has happened so she dreads what he is going to say next.

Hiruzen says with a chuckle, he had known that the girl in front of him is perceptive, but he did not expect her to ask his reason and it pains him to break this young girl's spirit even more than it already has been"

“Unfortunately, there is a reasoning behind my visit, and I apologize for giving this news to you so soon after you have already received a great shock”

Kagami tenses because what in the world could have happened especially if it's the Hokage delivering the news to her. The only thing she can think of is that something happened to the clan.

“I give you my apologies on a behalf of all of Konoha that your clan has been all but killed”

Kagami sucks in a gasp as she freezes, a ringing sounding in her ears as the words just play on repeat inside her head. Ameratsu protect her please tell her that she just misheard those words. Please tell her that they are just a figment of her imagination.

That is all she says as her hands shake, fingers digging into the fabric of her hospital gown as she looks at the Sandaime with wide eyes. But then she processes the whole sentence and latches on to one thing he said.
“All but- You said all but, who survived?”
Kagami hangs onto this like a lifeline as she prays that maybe just maybe her baby brother and Granny survived. She knows its selfish, but she is a shinobi and what is she but a selfish person. She also knows that she should be a bit more cordial in her words, but she just woke up from an 8-year coma sue her.

“Not including yourself there is now only a single Uchiha left who is loyal to Konoha, Uchiha Sasuke, current heir to the clan”

Kagami narrows her eyes at the wording because that could mean other members are alive but went rogue, plus if Sasuke survived what about Itachi because from what she can remember of the boy he was skilled. But Sasuke hadn’t even been born yet, the whole of the clan knew Mikoto-sama was pregnant once more, but the Uchiha Matriarch was only a month into her pregnancy. But she holds her tongue because she can always access the files later because if she is correct Sasuke is around 8 which means she is now the only adult member of the Uchiha Clan. But she isn’t thinking about what that means right now

“Thank you for informing Sandaime-sama"

With those words Kagami watches as the Sandaime gives her a look of sorrow before leaving the room and finally being left alone the woman breaks down. Burying her face in her hands as tears stream down her face with near silent sobs.

Left behind by all her family except for a young boy who does not even know she exists.
