Chapter 2
Chapter 2: I don't wanna talk
Satsuki was halfway leaving when she felt the sharp pull on her left hand, where the seals was.
“Oi, where do you think you are going?”
The way his voice rang in her eardrums felt so familiar, natural. So much so that in that moment, it like she was back on the bridge, in the soaking rain, with his hold on her wrist so tight that it hurt.
But they are not sixteen anymore, and Naruto is not hurting her in a familiar way anymore. She can take a hit, but this is worst.
Satsuki takes a deep breath as she turned around, “Home.”
She heard his scoff, “Bullshit. We haven’t even serve the food yet.” Naruto stepped closer. “…At least eat something before you…” His voice soften but he didn’t finish the sentence as there was a hint of frustration laced in it. “What’s wrong?”
There is a lot she want to say, but if she does now, then Satsuki could never close that box again. “I congratulated you, no?” She said flatly.
Naruto also held his tongue, running a hair through his hair. “That’s not the point! You’ve been acting so cold off today. You are my best friend…” His eyes fell on the seals on in their palms, “You think I wouldn’t notice?”
Satsuki’s lips twitched into a tired smirk, “It’s your wedding day idiot. Enjoy it, with your wife.” The word sound so foreign on her tongue.
Naruto’s expression immediately darkened, “Damn it, Suki! You…“ He stopped himself, realizing he is using that nickname again.
Right, they aren’t kids anymore.
His eyes narrowing as he really looks at her. Despite the lack of light, as her face was only illuminated by the gentle lantern’s glow he can still see her blank expression, the hurtful way she is acting as if he is just a stranger rather than the literall…
It’s like being punch in the gut by Sakura herself.
“Why… didn’t you stop me?” He said quietly, filled with hesitant.
Satsuki froze.
“If you would have said something…”
Would it really have changed anything? At all?
She turned away from the light, “Then what? What would you have done if I did?”
Silence filled the air.
“You think I never thought about it?” Satsuki exhaled harshly. “But I didn’t. And neither did you.”
Naruto looks like he wanted to start a fight again, but he could raise his arms nor his words.
Satsuki’s smile was vicious, “If that is all, I’m leaving.”
She walk away, not daring to look at. Satsuki doesn’t think they can handle the consequences if she ever laid her eyes on him again, right now. She slowly slipped out of his orbit, away from the warm of the Sun. Disappeared into the dead of night.
“Suki…”
