It's a Map
The drones were feeding Kylie live footage of where she was, which seemed to be in the middle of a forested area. Thankfully there were no other buildings in a 20 mile radius which left her some room away from prying eyes. The bad news was that just a little bit farther was the river that once crossed led to that village/town that was definitely under the rule of the mafia boss idiot Gato. a little more looking around and she found the house of the bridge builder. At least ROB hasn’t lied so far, she is placed close to the c-rank mission in the land of water. She also can confirm that she at least is before that mission and some time after the founding of Konoha. She also can be a little less careful since there are no ninja villages here, but there is still the possibility of Zabuza and Haku around.
The village is in sad shape from what she can see, man that idiot is really driving this place into the dirt. How long would he be able to keep that up economically speaking. If you keep the villagers destitute you will not be able to wring that much out of them. Gato is blind to the long term.
Suddenly an Idea came to Kylie, why not purchase a map here? If she can find one. It would give her a better idea of where everything is and not have to send her drones flying around blindly mapping out everything and look for Konoha . . . but how to go about doing it.
She can have one of her observation drones fitted with hologram tech she found in the database that was so kindly provided to her. That way she wouldn’t have to go out there in person, with the added fun that she could do a hologram of any character she wanted. She could think of the fun part later, practical came first. Kylie didn’t think anybody would sell a map to SpongeBob, hilarious as it would be to see people’s reactions to SpongeBob walking up to them to ask for a map, squeaky shoes and all.
Wait, the anime had all the Elemental nations speaking and writing Japanese. If that is the case then would they even be able to pronounce her name? Intrusive thoughts, but there was a valid point though. She only pass conversational Japanese and couldn’t read it to save her life. She was going to die. Kylie had the drones sneak closer within hearing range of some random villagers and they were indeed speaking in Japanese. She promptly had learning Japanese to the growing to-do list. Thankfully it seemed that ROB who she almost forgot was always watching (the creep) decided to be “generous” and updated the computer with online lessons for both reading and advanced language. Thanks for that reminder, she would have to add how to kill ROB to the mental to-do list.
All Kylie wanted to be was a Drone technician with a decent salary, but who cares about her opinion. Wait if he (guessing he’s a he) is always watching . . . “Hey is it possible you could send me a map of the Elemental Nations?”
Suddenly the computer she was working on blinked into the blue screen of death with the large word NO flickering across it.
“Well you can’t blame me for trying.”
Back to the original plan then, she decided that she was going to use a hologram of Gojo with his eyes showing because why not. The sad part was that although it looked good, it was still obviously a hologram. Which meant that it couldn't really touch anything and it was obviously not a real person. Other ninja might view as some sort of clone technique. But, she figured that this was more approachable than just talking straight through a drone and much safer than in person for now.
She spotted a likely merchant that had a bunch of books for sale, well here goes nothing. Gojo appears walking out of an alleyway a few streets down and confidently saunters over to the merchant.
“Do you have any maps for sale?” He asked blandly.
Meanwhile the book merchant and almost everyone on the street is staring. Give her a break she was an introverted drone technician not an improv actor.
“Yes, I’ve got maps of the land of wind and fire.” he replied after recovering from the shock of a stranger and the drone flying right above it.
At least he was willing to trade, if there were no magic ninja she doubt this would have worked.
“Good, I would like to see both of them.”
The merchant wordlessly pulled out two scrolls and rolled them out to view. Kylie inspected them through the camera, they were decent and they gave some idea of where she was and where Konoha was. Finally she had made some progress. Even though she didn’t really need to buy the maps since she already recorded the data She had the drone chuck out a gold coin she had prepared earlier (she had none of this world's currency). The gold coin had a picture of Yggdrasil on it since she had been a casual fan of Norse mythology. She thought that it was only fair to the merchant if she actually paid for the information she got.
“Could you tie the maps to my machine? I can't actually touch anything”
The merchant even more shocked than before complies after checking that the coin was real. After that Gojo disappears and the drone flies away leaving a bunch of random civilians and the merchant staring after it not knowing what to make of the situation. Meanwhile Kylie is excited by her success, not fully aware of the stir she caused. “Next up, spying on Konoha to figure where I was placed in the timeline.”
