Last Minute Switch (Smiling Critters and Nightmare Critters/Catnap x Baba Chops)

Catnap stares at himself in the mirror, trying his hardest to even make a sound. But all that comes out is wheezing noises and barely audible whispers. (Why did I get sick and lose my voice when it's today of all days!) Catnap thought to himself. It was teacher's day today. And of course The Smiling Critters Music Club is gonna do a performance today, in front of the whole college. (Alright Catnap, think! Who could help in this situation?) He thought to himself again, brainstorming. None of the club members could help since everyone already had their role and aren't able to have the range that Catnap had. Then one person came to mind, Baba Chops.

The only problem was that ever since the competition about a month ago, their already dwindling friendship was now non-existent. But he had to try. So he pulled out his phone and started messaging Baba.

"Morning BB. I know we don't really talk anymore, and I don't think you're even awake yet but I really need a favor. And I hope you could reply."

A few moments after sending the message, Baba had seen the message. And after another short moment, she started to type.

"Hey don't sweat it Naps its cool just tell me whats bothering you

btw i slept great last night actually"

Catnap was happy with how Baba responded, since Baba was really chill. He was also happy because Baba was able to sleep well, because usually she always has trouble sleeping due to her insomnia. Then he started to respond.

"Okay thank you! Listen. I need you to substitute me for the coming performance my club has for teacher's day today. I can't sing right now because I somehow lost my voice."

After Catnap responded there was a short pause until Baba replied.

"K ill meet you at college at your club"

Baba finally replied. Catnap then got himself ready, forgetting to tell Baba that she should dress up nicely instead of their usual aesthetic which is usually the complete opposite. After driving to the college, Catnap immediately ran towards his club where his fellow members are about to start a last minute practice. Everyone jumped at Catnap barging in. "Oh hey you finally made it!" Dogday happily said. Catnap tried to speak but unfortunately a single wheeze was the only thing that came out, so he resorted to communicating with his old way. How he used to talk with anyone who wasn't his parents.

'Hey guys, I lost my voice.' Catnap signed. After a short moment of confusion, everyone immediately got that Catnap was speaking in sign and asked him to say it again. After doing so, everyone started to panic and freak out. And due to the noise and chaos, Catnap wasn't able to get anyone's attention to tell them that Baba was gonna substitute. Thankfully he didn't have to look far for her, because she then barged into the room by kicking the door down shouting "HEY LISTEN UP!" Everyone quickly shut up and was surprised at the sight of her, not just because of her kicking down the door but because she looked very different. Instead of her usual rebellious and grungy clothes, she was wearing a black and white dress with a black leather jacket. And her hair which was usually straight and pointed up, was now soft looking and very curly which was her original hair shape, like how it used to look when Catnap and her were still close friends.

"Im here to substitute for Catnap because he asked earlier in the morning." Baba said out loud for everyone to hear. Everyone was a bit hesitant though, except for Catnap who immediately went up to Baba and started signing. 'Im so glad you were able to get here! This means so much to me, so thank you BB!' Baba smiled a bit at this and blushes a little bit. "Yeah it's nothing, I still kinda owe you for when you substituted for my ballet lesson back then." She replied with a smirk. The whole of the Smiling Critters then started to make a big fuss over Catnap doing ballet and how he would've looked but Baba thankfully put a stop to that. "Anyway, let's get some practice in yeah?" Baba shouted out, making the rest of the club lock in and start their practice...

After some practice, the band was ready to perform onstage and while backstage, Baba's club had came in to wish her luck. After a short while, the announcer started to talk. "Ladies and Gentlemen, Teachers and Students. Happy teacher's day! For the celebration of the appreciation of our hardworking educators, The Smiling Critters Music Club is here with a performance of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen! So give them a round of applause!" The announcer excitedly shouted out making the audience cheer and applause as the group started to walk onstage. When they got their the crowd had cheered and applauded harder but Baba hadn't left yet and was still staying with Catnap. "What if I forget the words? What if I mess up? This means a lot to you and I don't want to let you down." Baba was frantically talking to Catnap.

Catnap grabbed her by the shoulders and made her look at him. "I know you can do this. Because I've seen you do it before. I counted on you and you delivered perfectly, so that's why I'm trusting you again." He signed. He then gave Bubba a big hug, when she pulled away she wiped away a few tears. "Thanks Naps. Really. Now let's do this!" Baba replied as both of them finally got onstage. The crowd cheered for Catnap finally arriving, but not everyone was excited for Baba. But they continued on. Catnap sat down on his piano and Baba had some spotlights on her while she was next to some of the other band members. After a deep breath, she was ready to show the world who she was under the grunge.

"Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?"

The crowd cheered over the song choice. And also because they didn't expect Baba to have such a soft voice.

"Caught in a landslide, no escape from reality
Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see
I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy
Because I'm easy come, easy go. Little high, little low
Any way the wind blows doesn't really matter to me, to me."

The audience was surprised on how Baba had sung and started to cheer and applause for her.

"Mama, just killed a man
Put a gun against his head, pulled my trigger, now he's dead."

Baba started to get closer to Catnap, to make the spotlight go on him as well.

"Mama, life had just begun
But now I've gone and thrown it all away
Mama, ooh, didn't mean to make you cry
If I'm not back again this time tomorrow
Carry on, carry on as if nothing really matters."

Her similar range to Catnap had made the audience gasp in awe and applaud even more.

"Too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine, body's aching all the time
Goodbye, everybody, I've got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth
Mama, ooh (any way the wind blows)
I don't wanna die
I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all."

The audience cheered, and now Dogday was the one doing the guitar solo. And after a short while, Catnap was playing his piano again.

"I see a little silhouetto of a man
Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango?
Thunderbolt and lightning, very, very frightening me
(Galileo) Galileo, (Galileo) Galileo, Galileo Figaro, magnifico."

The fact that there are 8 people singing at once, makes it so that you barely have to do any layering and everyone has a role in singing.

"But I'm just a poor boy, nobody loves me
He's just a poor boy from a poor family
Spare him his life from this monstrosity."

The symphony of voices being sung live makes the audience cheer once again.

Easy come, easy go, will you let me go?
Bismillah!
No, we will not let you go (let him go)
Bismillah!
We will not let you go (let him go)
Bismillah!
We will not let you go (let me go)
Will not let you go (let me go)
Will not let you go (never, never, never, never let me go)
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
Oh, mamma mia, mamma mia
Mamma mia, let me go
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me, for me, for me!"

The crowd cheered and applauded at the sheer pitch of some of the band members singing, and they continued to cheer when the song switched gears.

"So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye?
So you think you can love me and leave me to die?
Oh, baby, can't do this to me, baby
Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here."

After another short intermission, the song slowed right back down.

"Ooh
Ooh, yeah, ooh, yeah
Nothing really matters, anyone can see
Nothing really matters
Nothing really matters to me
(Anyway the wind blows)."

And with the final playing of Dogday's guitar and Catnap's piano, they finished playing. Making the entire audience gave a standing ovation, Baba's club members were there too, shouting and roaring over how good their club president was. Everyone then got on a line and bowed, waving at everyone goodbye while smiling, until the curtains drew close.
