The Avatar Program

New Headline: Group of RDA scientists set sail into space to travel to Pandora!

Grace Augustine, leader of ‘The Avatar Program’, proudly funded by Medarda Industries has finally taken her crew to travel through space and time towards Pandora, with the hopes of ‘understanding’ and ‘befriending’ the natives.

Mel Medara, the new CEO of the successful energy company comments on this; ‘Grace believes she can tame them, but I have made it extremely clear that our main goal and motive is to collect and harness Unobtanium, as it is extremely rare to find on Earth and can be used to generate energy. Apparently, the mineral forms volcanically on Pandora. Not many believe Grace and her team can make peace with these people, but I have faith and would much rather put in the money to do this peacefully, I’ve never liked bulldozers’

Grace Augustine refused to comment before departing at 2:13am this morning, but we did get a few words in from a fellow scientist;

‘You people are a disgrace to journalism’

We did not get a confirmed name for the man, but he did bare a walking cane and an accent.

Viktor cannot believe he’s here.

Floating around in this spaceship like he weighs nothing.

He can’t even feel the pain in his leg.

Grace came up next to him, the two scientists moved in sync towards one of the windows, the ship was white with grey hues, small sleeping quarters for each passenger, Viktors specialised specifically to hold his cane.

“If all goes well, we’ll be there in about five days time” Grace confirmed “Thanks to your addition we won’t have to for asleep for years” she winked

“You’re telling me this like I didn’t already know” Viktor chuckled

“I know, but sometimes I think you forget your own potential” Grace said “I mean, you didn’t even want to come along when you gave me the Hex, you were just…being a good fucking guy”

Viktor leaned against the window “Yes well, it’s like you say, in the persist of great, make sure to do good”

Grace crossed her arms over her chest “Yeah, but the Hex is pretty great, isn’t it?”

Viktor breathed as he stared at the older woman “I- I suppose”

Grace slapped his arm lovingly “you suppose, my ass”

It was stupidly sunny when the two met, Grace had just walked out of yet another attempt to get funding from the ex-CEO, Ambessa, when she found Viktor writing formulas on the brick wall outside his work, muttering to himself and pacing.

“You do know you’re defacing public property, right?” She said, lighting a cigarette as she stepped closer

“My boss never comes back here” Viktor waved her off, desperate to not have any distractions

“But you sure do” Grace mumbled “You did all of this?” she pointed to the wall with her cigarette

Viktor frowned as he stared at the woman, her broken watch, white lab coat and short red hair. Clearly a woman of business.

“Yes, I did” he said, avoiding eye contact

“Jesus” Grace breathed “You planning on spending your life working at a fucking pizza shop?”

Viktor scoffed “What would you suppose I do? A cripple with no social skills, what career could I possibly have?”

Grace studied the equations a bit more, and stated the obvious “A scientist”

Ever since then Viktor has worked behind the scenes, researching and planning alongside Grace and the other scientists she’s collected along the way, this includes..

“Doctor! Doctor!” yelled Jayce Talis, who was currently doing some very peculiar parkour to reach the two.

Viktor rolled his eyes

“I’m not the ships doctor, Talis, that would be Caitlyn, go see her if you’ve got an injury” she nodded towards the medical bay.

“You know what I mean” Jayce huffed as he reached the two “I just came over to say hi, and to thank you…again” he smiled faintly

“Don’t thank me, thank your girlfriend, she pulled the strings”

Jayce flushed “she’s not my-“

“If you’ll excuse me, Grace” Viktor interrupted, making a point to avoid Jayce completely “I need to go check on the Hex, it appears I’m the only one who knows how to”

Grace nodded in approval, so Viktor moved off the window towards the entrance of the ship.

“Hey! Viktor! Wait up!” called Jayce, who began following him.

Viktors jaw clenched, this guy.

“Is there something you require of me, Talis?” He asked as Jayce caught up with him

“Uh, nope. I just wanted to come check the Hex out too” Jayce rubbed the back of his neck “seeing as I was the one who solved the-“

“Is that your only accomplishment?” Viktor asked “solving something that was practically already complete”

Jayce huffed, his short black hair had gotten a lot longer since he’d seen him last, he had the shadow of a beard and was wearing the same uniform Viktor was. A comfortable suit showing the white and gold scheme of Medara Industries.

A painful reminder that Mel Medara only sees this as a mission to obtain, not to discover. Viktor knows that Mel doesn’t see him as an equal, just someone to get what she wants. He hates that he has to dawn her colours and fucking wear them, she had insisted.

And it annoys him even more when he sees Jayces uniform, with his initials stitched into his blazer, gifted to him personally by Mel, with a warm smile on her face.

“I’m not an idiot, Viktor” Jayce stated “I can help, I can be useful to your research”

“I’m going to be honest, Talis, that doesn’t make you special, I’m sorry if you’ve been led to believe otherwise” he replied as they finally reached the locked room the Hex was kept in.

He pulled out his key-card and swiped, the sliding door opened and he entered.

Unfortunately, Jayce followed.

“I’m not exactly sure what it is you have against me” he said, almost sadly “What did I do?”

“It’s not what you did do, it’s what you didn’t do” Viktor explained as he reached the purple sphere in the center of the room “You did absolutely nothing to earn your way here, just a life full of advantages and a CEO who is hopelessly in love with you”

Jayce frowned “You know I’ve asked you that question so many times and you’re finally replying, why is that?”

“Because you are currently marvelling at my invention” Viktor grins, noticing Jayces eyes gloss over in awe as he looks up at the Hex “That might’ve inflated my ego”

Jayce turned to the other man “I don’t serve as a reminder that you didn’t entirely do this by yourself?” He pointed to the Hex

“No, not really” Viktor shook his head, earning a small chuckle from Jayce.

Technically, Jayce did help him. He had wandered towards Viktors part of the lab and taken in all the scribbles and notes stuck to the wall, he had seen Viktor bite his lip and sigh, and then Talis had walked over and word vomited for a good three minutes.

During which, Viktor had understood what Jayce was getting at, connecting the equations in his mind, but then ushered Jayce away.

He would never admit that the other man had been extremely helpful.

“I’m aware of my place, but I ask you this; If you were in my position and passionate about science, wouldn’t you do the same? Wouldn’t you take every opportunity you’re given?”

Viktor rolled his eyes “That’s a stupid question, I’m not in your position, I never have been and I never will be”

Jayce groaned “you know what I meant”

Viktor moved around to the other side and tapped the Hex, making sure nothing was faulty. “Was it going on with you and her anyway? I thought you two would be married by now”

Jayce huffed “Well you thought wrong”

“So then what is it? Have you just been leading her on this entire time?”

Jayce spluttered “What- No! I just…I just don’t know how to …I don’t know”

Viktor raised a brow “For a scientist you are rather unsure of yourself”

Jayce perked up “did you just call me a scientist?”

“That is not the part you should focus on” Viktor deadpanned, floating out of the room, he contemplated locking the other man in there.

“Yeah, I know” Jayce said guilty “But I just-“

“Whether I like it or not, you are a scientist, that is just a fact” Viktor states “I don’t get to decide that, but I do get to decide if I like you or not, which I don’t”

“I didn’t notice” Jayce mumbled sarcastically, watching Viktor lock the door “If you don’t like me, then why have you been talking to me for the past few minutes?”

Viktor paused, mid-float back towards his bedding “Because I find you amusing, you have everybody here wrapped around your finger, but you cannot fool me, Talis, I see you”

“You…see me?”

“Yes” Viktor got closer “I see you for what you really are, nothing you do can make me fall for your little tricks”

Jayces mouth was agape “there’s nothing to fall for, Viktor, I’m sorry you’ve had a rough life but-“

“Just don’t” Viktor waved him off “I’m going to sleep, and I don’t wish to see you trying to befriend me again, Talis”

“Fine” Jayce decided “Have a nice sleep, Viktor”
