Everything Beatrice loves (and hates) about Ava
Beatrice loves that Ava doesn't take anything for granted. She supposes that that's something that happens when you get a whole new chance at life. Ava works hard to maintain everything that her new life has given her, even when it's not required. She makes the best of every situation, even when everyone else around her has given up. Ava never took her position as the halo bearer for granted either. She knew she could be replaced but she also knew her worth, and she made sure other people knew it too. She didn't take her friendship with Camila or Yasmine for granted, nor the special bond she and mother superior developed. But most of all, Ava never took Beatrice for granted; her intelligence, her wit, her abilities, her love.
Beatrice hates how Ava always throws herself into danger. It might be the job of the warrior nun to do so, yes, but that doesn't mean Beatrice has to like it. Ava goes head first into battle, rarely calculating all the outcomes and often getting herself (and the others) in trouble for it. She's learning, Beatrice knows, but she's afraid she's not learning quickly enough. Beatrice would never stop Ava from protecting the innocent, and the halo bearer knows the nun would always stand beside her. But seeing Ava continuously put everyone's life above hers was slowly killing Beatrice. In those moments, Beatrice can't help but imagine the two of them running away together. Away from the church, away from the fight, away from all their responsibilities.
Beatrice loves the way she always finds the good in people, no matter who they are. If someone needs a second chance, Ava has no problem giving it to them. If someone is rude to her, she just thinks they woke up on the wrong side of the bed that day. Ava can find the good in people even when they can't find it themselves. Her optimism is palpable. Ava has no problem reminding people about all the things she likes about them, rather the opposite, actually—she loves to. Especially when it comes to Beatrice. Even if she doesn't always agree or see it fit, the empathy and compassion Ava has for people will never not be extraordinary to watch. Beatrice will always admire that about her.
Beatrice hates how messy Ava is. In their shared apartment in the alps, there were always clothes thrown on furniture or on a heap on the floor. The sink was always filled with dishes when Beatrice got home from work. Their bathroom was a mess most of the time, no matter how many times Beatrice told Ava to clean up after herself. They got into many heated arguments about Ava’s messy nature and Beatrice’s need for order and cleanliness. For short periods of time, both of them could compromise for the other. Ava would make the dishes and remove most of her beauty products from the bathroom sink, and Beatrice wouldn't comment on all the clothes laying around or things not being put back immediately. Bad habits die screaming, but it's the effort Ava makes to change that makes the hard days worth it.
Beatrice loves how Ava sees the world. She's always curious and ready for new adventures. Ava always stops to smell the roses, and she makes sure Beatrice takes the time to do the same. She appreciates everything in life, even the little things. She smiles at strangers and pets every dog she sees. She runs into the pouring rain to dance and gets giddy as a child when the first flakes of snow appear on the ground. She points out everything that Beatrice thinks is ordinary, but to Ava, it's miraculous. Beatrice could make her burnt toast for breakfast and Ava would still look at Beatrice like she plucked down all the stars from the sky just for her. (If she could, Beatrice would've given them all to her in a heartbeat).
Beatrice hates when Ava tries to hide her physical pain. It's not only harmful to Ava, but to the whole team as well. When Ava downplays her injuries she pretends to be capable of things she is not, and that can easily result in worse damage with longer healing time. Beatrice has had that discussion with Ava multiple times, but the halo bearer would rather put herself through hell then let her teammates down. Beatrice could always see through her lies, see how much the pain actually affected Ava. She would pray to God every night until Ava got better. If she was being honest with herself, her prayers were rarely about herself anymore, but undoubtedly about Ava Silva, every single time.
Beatrice loves how Ava is always open to learn new things, if only because it interests Beatrice. She loves how Ava can't go anywhere without her earphones, and that she has to listen to music even when she's in the shower. Beatrice loves Ava’s humor and how she can always make her laugh, even when that's not always the intention. Trading puns with Ava is one of her favorite activities, and sometimes at work she yearns to get home solely to do just that. She loves Ava’s quiet snores and the flutter of her eyelids when she's in a deep slumber. Beatrice loves Ava’s laugh, and her smile, and how confident she is in her body. She loves all the nicknacks spread throughout their home, a constant reminder that Ava is here, and she's hers. Beatrice loves that everyday, Ava makes life worth living.
Beatrice loves Ava, plain and simple.
