A few days passed, and Mizuki found herself forced to prepare to go to school.
“Ugh…such a pain…why do i have to go” As she was complaining, she received a message.
“Good luck Mizuki, take care of yourself, and if anything happens, don’t hesitate to go to Akito. Love you” Seeing the message from Ena made all of Mizuki’s complaints suddenly go away.
“Oh well, guess we are going…” She finishes preparing and starts walking towards school. It would be a lie to say she wasn’t nervous after that place became her own personal hell, but there was nothing she could do. She was barely keeping up with her attendance before, and after all that happened, she would be lucky if she somehow managed to avoid having to take remedial classes.
Just as she arrives at the entrance, she notices a certain person waiting for her.
“Good to see you have the energy to come back to school, Mizuki” Rui was the same as ever, which helped to calm Mizuki’s fears ever so slightly. “Shall i escort you to your classroom?” He lends his hand to Mizuki in an over exaggerated manner. Mizuki just giggled. It was a gesture she knew from their time together. Ena had already made it clear that the two of them don’t need to create distance out of consideration for her, so Mizuki just played along and grabbed Rui’s hand.
The entire way, Rui noticed Mizuki’s extreme distress and was quick to point it out.
“Are you sure you are ok returning to school? We can talk to the teachers to justify your lack of attendance, you don’t need to force yourself”
Mizuki just sighs. Was it really that obvious? No, Rui was just perceptive when it came to Mizuki, nothing new there.
“I don’t really care, but Ena is expecting this from me…and i do have to work on my recovery…So i will be fine”
As Mizuki said this, the pair arrives to Mizuki’s classroom. Rui just stares into her eyes, an act he used to do back when they were dating to figure out if she is lying.
“Promise to call me if anything happens though…All i want is for your happiness”
“Yeah yeah, i’m fine, just go already” She takes a deep breath and enters the classroom. “Hello everyone! It’s been a while” She greets her classmates in her usual cheerful manner.
“Mizuki!? You showed up!” One of her classmates mentioned.
“Yeah, yeah! I mean, we are used to you showing up whenever, but it is still a surprise every time!” Another one added.
“Come on, don’t make me sound like some sort of legend or something” She was doing ok, Mizuki thought. At least everyone was buying her act. However, from the other side of the classroom, Mizuki could sense someone staring at her, making her nervous.
As the day passed, Mizuki started feeling sick from the usual rumors. The Mizuki from before could have just brushed them off with no issue, but the current her didn’t actually have the energy to do so, leading to her running to the bathroom to throw up.
She spends the rest of the day having to withstand the constant stares of others. “It’s fine, you’ll be fine” She kept telling herself.
As her classes end, she gets a call from Ena.
“Mizuki, you ok? I am going to school right now so mind waiting for me in your classroom?” That was just like Ena, making some rather annoying requests.
A few minutes passed and Ena arrived at Mizuki’s classroom.
“Thank you for waiting…and i’m sorry i made you stay. I just wanted to see you”
Mizuki could feel tears forming in her eyes. She thought she did not deserve to have such a beautiful and nice girlfriend. Seeing such a face, Ena could hardly hold back and stole a kiss from her before gently patting her cheek.
“You are thinking stupid stuff again, Mizuki. But it’s fine, because this hesitant part of yours is cute as well” Ena said in a teasing tone unlike ever before, leaving Mizuki blushing quite a bit.
“Shut up, i’m trying my best here! You could at least praise me, you know?” Mizuki sounded mad and bitter, so Ena decided to shut her up by stealing a kiss.
“Of course Mizuki, you did well, so i think you deserve a reward” The two of them then continued flirting while the night class students started arriving. “I will see you later, Mizuki”
“Yeah, see you in Nightcord at 25” Mizuki starts heading home while Ena goes to her class.
