Ada, Krauser, "it"
Once they reached the cliff, Ada gave Aconite a glare, frustrated with the younger woman.
"You're lucky my grappling gun could carry our weight." the spy hissed as she noted her dress had been ripped slightly from the younger's nails.
Aconite raised a brow at her and snorted, "Please, I can manipulate my mass. The moment I grabbed onto you, I lost about a hundred pounds of weight."
Ada stared in shock for a moment before shaking her head.
"What do you want? I assume that you grabbed onto me for a reason."
"What is my father planning? With Umbrella's fall, I'm guessing he doesn't work for them. But who is he working with, and why?"
Aconite demanded as she trailed after Ada, noting that the spy was actively avoiding the more populated areas.
"You know I can't answer that, confidentiality and all that. But I can answer that he does, in fact, no longer work with Umbrella."
Ada said as they entered one of the buildings, spotting Krauser within.
"Ada, Aconite." Krauser greeted as he tossed his combat knife up, catching it and throwing it again.
"What's the news on our friend Leon?" Krauser asked, eyeing Aconite, who glared at them both.
"He's not making it easy. The sample?" Ada answered.
"Damn right, Leo isn't making it easy." The tyrant muttered under her breath, Krauser catching his knife a final time.
"Of course, and Saddler's got it. It seems he sniffed out our little game."
"Perfect..." Ada sighed.
"Just so we understand each other clearly...I don't trust you, nor does Wesker. If you try to do anything clever, I will kill you." Krauser told the spy who smirked, his eyes trailing to Aconite.
"Is that so? You know, I met Wesker long before you." Ada responded as she begins moving to the door.
"We'll see soon enough if you did."
"Yeah, we'll see."
"Heh."
Watching Ada run off, Aconite waited for a moment before looking back to Krauser.
"So, what's with the looks to me, Aconite?" Krauser questioned, making her sigh.
"Well, I was curious as to how far you've gone into this whole act of yours." she stated, her eye flashing orange as her 'infected' vision took over, the man glowing in a tell-tale way showing he had a plaga.
From the focus of the glow, it was in his arm.
Krauser shivered at the unnatural glint in her eye, feeling like she was piercing into his soul.
"I'm not quite sure what you mean."
"You have a plaga, Jack, I can see it. So, are you still loyal to my father, or does Saddler hold your reins." Aconite questioned, her pointer finger turning into a claw.
"I'm still loyal to Wesker, and right now, my orders are to get the sample and to ensure you get off this island alive."
Krauser growled as he stalked forward.
Aconite laughed at the statement.
"Like I need help getting off this island alive. Please, I understand that my father hasn't a clue of what I'm capable of, since he's not seen me in six years, but I don't need your help doing anything."
Aconite stated as she eyed the frustrated look on his face.
"Believe me, I'd rather just get the sample and get the hell off this island, but I'm not going to piss Wesker off."
"You do realize that the moment you're not useful to him anymore, my father will get rid of you."
Aconite warned as he left the room, watching him pause for a moment before he left, making her shake her head in disbelief.
'Jack, I hope that you realize that I'm telling the truth, but I doubt you will.' She thought before making her way through the facility.
Finding herself in a surveillance room, she looked over the cameras for Leon or Ashley, spotting the later with Saddler.
Looking over the other cameras, she found Leon with Krauser, turning up the volume for that camera they were on.
"Been a long time, comrade." Krauser greeted Leon, twirling his knife in hand as Leon wiped blood away from a cut on his cheek.
"Krauser, so you are here!" Leon hissed at him, readying his knife.
"I died in the crash two years ago. Is that what they told you? Though it seems Aconite told you she'd run into me."
"You're the one who kidnapped Ashley!"
"You catch on quick. That's expected. After all, both you and I know where we come from."
Krauser commented, lashing out at Leon with his knife, the two dodging the other's swipes.
"What do you want?" Leon questioned, circling the larger male, knife at the ready.
"Hmph. The sample Saddler developed, that's all." Krauser informed, their blades grinding along each other before they backed away.
"Leave Ashley out of this!" Leon hissed as Krauser held his knife in a reverse hold.
"Oh, I needed her to buy Saddler's trust in me. Like you, I'm American."
Krauser told him, standing up straight before kicking a barrel at Leon, who kicked it out of the way, blocking the other knife with his own.
Pushed back with the momentum of Krauser's strike, Leon fell into a roll, landing on his feet as his opponent did the same, whipping around to face him again while Aconite admired the skill the two combatants held.
The sheer grace both men possessed in their 'dance' was skill earned through blood, sweat, and tears. Hours of training paying off in an instant.
Aconite doubted that she had that level of skill, despite her focus on blades.
"You got her involved just for that?!" Leon growled as he turned back to Krauser, blue eyes like ice as he rushed his foe, the pair dodging and trading knife swipes as they fought.
Finally, Krauser threw Leon to the floor, her fiancee's knife flying out of reach as he tried to catch his breath.
Aconite wanted to rush to his aid, but couldn't tear her eyes away from the screen as Krauser stalked toward his fallen former comrade.
"All for Umbrella's sake," she heard him mutter, confusing her as he worked for her father, not Umbrella.
"Umbrella?" she faintly heard Leon groan, looking to the larger male in confusion.
"Almost let it slip," Krauser sighed, jumping into the air to land on Leon, "Enough talk. Die, comrade!"
Krauser growled as he tried to stab Leon in the heart, causing Aconite to rush out of the room and pray she got there in time.
She rushed through the halls, reaching the boiler room just as a shot rang through the air, she threw the doors open to see Krauser's knife fly out of his hand.
Running forward, she lashed her claws at the bulky male, causing him to jump away as she stood over Leon protectively, her eyes following Krauser's gaze up to see Ada, gun in hand.
"Ada!" Leon called out, spotting the Asian woman.
"Well, if it isn't the bitch in the red dress," Krauser muttered, eyeing the two women opposing him.
"It looks like we have the upper hand here." Ada smiled mysteriously as Krauser barked a laugh, flipping up onto a nearby ledge Aconite guessed was about twenty feet above them.
"You may be able to prolong your life, but it's not like you can escape your inevitable death, is it?" Krauser mocked before running off, Ada hoping down beside them as Leon picked up Krauser's knife.
"You...knew each other?" Ada inquired as Aconite glared at the spot Krauser had been.
"More or less. Maybe it's about time you told us the reason you're here?" Leon commanded as Ada walked past them to the railing.
"Maybe some other time," Ada said in goodbye, hopping over the railing as Leon's radio crackled to life.
Enjoy the reunion with your old friend?
Saddler asked, his voice carrying a mocking tone as she noted he'd removed his hood on the small image on the screen.
"As a matter of fact, I did," Leon smirked, staring at the screen as Aconite stayed off-camera.
Wonderful. I wouldn't want my special guests on the island feeling unattended.
Saddler said as if overjoyed at Leon's words making the tyrant growl under her breath.
"Guess I'm supposed to thank you, right?" Leon asked with a raised brow.
Ah...I have an idea. Since you're here, why don't I introduce you to "it." It should keep you busy.
Saddler said in an airy tone, and Leon couldn't resist his comeback.
"Can't remember the name? A senior moment, perhaps?"
Enjoy the fun. Tell Ms. Wesker I hope she enjoys herself as well.
Finding Ashley's homing beacon in a puddle Aconite hissed before they heard rumbling coming from the walls, and something rushed out of the stone, forcing Leon into the hanging cage.
"Leon!" Aconite called out as she took in the beast hunting Leon in the cage, sections of the cage falling into the abyss below them.
"I'll be alright, see if you can kill it!" Leon called from within the cage as Aconite spotted the creature on top of the cage.
It was a chimera of sorts, she was able to see human, reptile, and insect features on it.
When Leon jumped onto a hook and back onto a ledge across the chasm, the creature falling with the remainder of the cage, Aconite quickly joined him.
Hearing and feeling another rumble, Aconite pushed Leon out of the way of the pincers of the beast.
"Okay, round two," Leon muttered before Aconite gave him a smile.
"Round two my ass, this one's mine." Aconite purred before she launched at the beast and sliced right through the pincer arm with her blade.
The beast roar in pain before falling to the ground, dead.
Leon stared at the corpse that'd given him so much hell in the cage and sighed.
"Why do I even try?" Leon asked as Aconite rejoined him.
"Leo, I'm the equivalent to a nuke in a knife fight. It doesn't make you any less effective. Look what happens when I'm not around, you kick ass and destroy bioweapons without much issue."
Aconite assured, wrapping her arms around him, leaning her forehead against his.
Leon looked into her eyes and huffed.
"Right, let's get Ashley and go home."
Leon stated as they made their way out of the tunnels.
As they made their way from across the ruins, Aconite spotted Krauser first, pointing him out to Leon.
The man has discarded his shirt and painted three stripes across his face in red, but Aconite couldn't tell if it was blood or paint from the distance, the cut on his chest from his knife fight with Leon healed up.
"So, you three are all hooked up now, is that it?" Krauser stated as he glared at them, confusing Aconite until she guessed he was referring to Ada.
"Where's Ashley?" Leon demanded, eyes narrowing as Aconite stepped back at Leon's nod.
This was Leon's fight unless told otherwise.
"Do you really want to know? She's beyond that gate. But you'll need three insignias to open it. And Aconite cannot assist you in getting them."
Krauser informed as she backed away.
"I'm fine with that, this is between you and Leon. Though, I'm guessing you've outlived your usefulness. I warned you." Aconite told the large man who ignored her, focused on Leon.
"What are you gonna do, Krauser?" Leon asked as the other paced before them.
"There's one in the north..." Krauser began, jerking his head in the direction mentioned, "and the other in the east."
"And let me guess...you got the last one." Leon finished for him, his voice tight as his former ally turned back to him.
"It pretty much means you're on a tight leash," Krauser smirked, pulling out a T.M.P. machine gun before aiming it at Leon, who drew his knife.
"Sounds like you thought this one out pretty well," Leon praised before throwing his grappling hook, making a break for it as Krauser knocked it away, firing at Leon, who reached a stone wall.
Aconite bit her lip, realizing that Leon was planning on fighting honorably, with only close combat with the knife.
Krauser also seemed to notice this, as he chuckled before turning his gaze to Aconite while Leon ran into a building.
"I mean it, this is between Leon and me," Krauser hissed, causing her to shake her head.
"I know, but I hope you realize that should you kill Leon, you're death will be excruciating."
Aconite swore, her crimson eye glowing as she sat down on a broken pillar, enhancing her hearing to catch any conversation that would occur between the two.
Krauser nodded absently, taking off after Leon in a way that made Aconite frown.
'He expects to die, no,' she thought as she watched from her spot, 'he wants to die but intends to do it on his terms. Either he dies by Leon's hand or mine.'
Aconite thought sadly before noticing Krauser's phone had been tossed next to her.
Picking it up, she saw it was dialing a number.
"Hmn?" she placed the phone next to her ear as the other end picked up.
Aconite,
Her father's voice filtered through the speaker, making her curious.
"How'd you know it was me? Let me guess," Aconite started as she leaned back against the other half of the pillar, looking up at the sky, "satellites, right? You're watching this."
Correct, you seem to have gained some unusual abilities from what I've been able to see.
"Indeed, I have a whole menagerie of new tricks. Not just superior strength, what did you see? Got the letter you gave Ada, though I haven't read it just yet."
I saw your claws, impressive how you've continued to develop. From your words, I can assume that the claws are not everything?
"No," Aconite confirmed as she returned her gaze to the fight, "but I'm not going to tell you. Maybe if we ever run into each other, you can find out for yourself."
I would not fight you, I dislike fighting Chris as it is.
"I wouldn't give you much of a choice, but I suppose it's good to hear that you still care about us, though that doesn't explain why you tried to kill Chris in Antarctica."
That was unavoidable, I'm afraid. And I did not try, or he'd be dead. You care about this Leon a great deal.
Her father stated, his voice displeased as he said Leon's name.
"I do, why Jack?" Aconite questioned as Leon made his way to the tower Krauser was waiting at the top of.
I do not follow.
"Why did you approach Jack, why turn him to your side. I understand that it was a good opportunity for you, but still."
I did not know of his connection to you; he did not make it known. To be honest, I know little of what you've been up to.
"Don't sound happy about that, too bad." Aconite chuckled as she watched Krauser's arm transform into a claw.
"As it is, you apparently have no use for him anymore, do you?"
Krauser has served his purpose but is compromised.
"You had Ada try to kill him, didn't you." Aconite hissed in accusation, her grip making the phone creak in protest.
You warned him yourself; I have no use for him and thus do not need him.
"Father, you are an asshole. You used him, just like you used S.T.A.R.S., Chris, and me.
Aconite-
Whatever he was about to say was cut off as Aconite crushed the phone in her hand, dropping the pieces as she moved to join Leon at the top of the tower.
Arriving just as Krauser collapsed, his plaga dying, Aconite walked over to the dying man.
"Jack," she said as she knelt beside him.
"Nite, the tower's gonna blow, we need to get out of here," Leon warned, and Aconite waved him off.
"I'll catch up," she promised as her arm became tendrils, causing Leon to realize that she was about to consume his once-ally.
Waiting until Leon was gone, she picked Krauser up and carried him off the tower to a safe distance.
"What are you doing, Aconite?" Krauser groaned as she laid him down, not surprised that she could carry him.
"I don't know, just have this instinct all of a sudden." Aconite answered as her tendrils covered his body.
"Most of the time," she sighed, "I don't indulge my virus like this, but for once, I think it'd be wiser for me to listen."
Watching her tendrils disappear under his skin, she followed the flow of her virus, feeling it spread from her into Krauser's dying body.
Krauser hissed as fire spread through his veins, head thumping against the ground as the explosives went off.
Aconite felt her hive mind open, a new presence brushing along hers and realized what was happening, she was turning Krauser into an Evolved, as Mercer had done in Prototype 2.
Feeling the virus spread through his body, Aconite allowed a smile to form as she felt him stabilize, his heart beginning to beat at an average pace from the slow, near-death rate it had been.
Krauser took a deep breath, his vision no longer grey around the edges, and stared at her in shock as he felt memories not his own flood his mind.
"You belong to me now, Jack." Aconite told him as her tendrils receded into her body, the larger male sitting up.
"What...what's going on?" he asked in confusion as she stood.
"I infected you with my virus. What your experiencing is the 'Web of Intrigue' I have built over the years since discovering I could consume and assimilate the memories and abilities of others. I have a few different 'Webs,' one that relates to my life, one that relates to Umbrella as a whole, and one that pertains to all that is the Los Illuminados cult."
Aconite explained as she looked to the sky, wondering what she would do with this.
"Why?" Krauser asked, grateful but confused that she had saved him.
"Leon would never admit it, but killing you would have broken him. That, and like me, you've been used by my father and have outlived your usefulness to him. He's thrown you away just like he did S.T.A.R.S., just like his lover Chris, and just like me, his own daughter."
Aconite sighed as she looked down at him,
"But now, you're mine, my Evolved. The first person I've ever infected with my virus with the intent of them remaining infected. Leon carries my virus, but it remains dormant. I control every aspect of my virus, including if it's active or not in others. I don't understand what this will mean for you or for me, but we'll see in time."
Krauser stared at her, feeling the strength of the virus within her and now him, and took the hand she offered him cautiously.
"The Government won't be happy about this," Krauser said as she pulled him up.
"They won't know. Get off this island Jack, I'll contact you through the hive when I need you. Stay away from my father, I don't want him to get his hands on my improved virus."
Aconite ordered, walking toward the gate Leon had left through.
"You got it, boss." she heard Krauser call out as she left, feeling the man through the hive mind leaving her immediate area.
"Leon isn't going to like this," Aconite sighed as she took off after him.
-Unknown location-
Albert Wesker watched through the satellite camera as his daughter saved Jack, watching the unique way her virus moved and transformed her body.
Part of him wanted to capture her, to examine the mutation to her T-virus, and use it.
Part of him wanted to capture her to protect her from the world.
The last part of him, the one he listened to, was proud of his daughter and what she accomplished, deciding to watch her from afar as she found her way in the world.
