Death of the Castellan
Save for the catapults on the far wall, clearing the clock tower was simple, but Aconite had a distinct feeling that things weren't going to stay that way.
'Now that I think about it, I haven't seen any signs of Krauser.' Aconite thought idly as they dispatched another wave of Ganados, her claws making quick work of the cultists.
"Something on your mind, Nite?" Leon asked, having noticed her distraction only because of how well he knew her.
She shook her head for a moment before answering him.
"Sorry, just thinking I haven't seen Krauser. I'm wondering if his orders changed since running into me. Or maybe he isn't to engage us until later."
Aconite said with a shrug as they entered the castle's Watchman's Hallway.
Spotting four enemies, she eyed the two in the back with their odd appearance.
"Shit," Leon whispered beside her as he spotted the two.
"What is it?" Aconite asked as she noted the pair had long claw gauntlets attached to their arms, and, from what she could see through the helmets they wore, their eyes had been sewn shut.
'So, they rely on hearing,' she observed as Leon answered her.
"The two in the back, I've heard other Ganados call them Garradors, they are immune to pain except for their backs, where the plaga is exposed. Bitch and a half to get behind them thanks to their hearing."
Aconite smirked at that, already forming several plans for how to take them.
"You take the three Ganados; there is a side hall with one in it. I'll take the Garradors. I'll consume one of them and tear the other apart."
Aconite ordered as she rushed the cultists, feeling her virus ripple across her skin in glee as her claws extended, leaping onto one of the Garradors she raked her claws through the parasite before flipping away from the other that lashed out at them.
The attacking Garrador sliced into its ally, destroying the plaga of its comrade before shrieking in pain as Aconite's claws ripped through its chest, impaling its own plaga before pressing herself against its back to prevent it from throwing her off.
Tendrils extended from Aconite, wrapping around the struggling Garrador until it dissapeared from the number wrapped around it before constricting.
The Garrador let out a last whimper of pain before it was consumed, the tendrils receding into Aconite as she threw her head back.
The one downside to her consumption, she felt the 'sense' memory of her 'meals' alongside seeing the actual memories of the person they'd been.
The echo of the shear pain the Garrador felt as it had become what it was, threw Aconite for a loop as she assimilated the memories.
It was almost as painful as the experiments that'd been done on her all those years ago, yet in the same breath, the Garrador's pain was worse than that.
"-ite,"
"Nite,"
"Aconite!" Leon's voice broke her out of the memories, her fiancee shaking her shoulders.
"Aconite! You okay?" Leon asked, looking down at her.
Realizing she'd collapsed to the floor from the overload, she gave him a shaky smile.
"Y...yeah, sorry. The memories of that thing were stronger than expected."
She answered as he helped her stand.
"But you'll be okay?"
"Yes, now let's get Ashley and finish this mission." Aconite huffed as she cracked her spine, glaring at the throne room doors.
"Right."
Throwing the doors of the Castellan's Room, the agents found Salazar seated on a throne with Ashley guarded by the bodyguards.
"Ashley!"
"Leon! Aconite!" Ashley called out to them, pinned by the guards who held spears in an x formation around her.
"Mr. Kennedy, Ms. Wesker, don't you know when it's time to throw in the towel?" the Castellan's nasally voice inquired as he glared down at them before pushing a button.
Aconite's stomach lurched into her throat when the floor beneath them gave way, revealing it was a trap door.
Falling, the pair let out gasps of shock before instinct took over.
Aconite let lose several thick tendrils that buried themselves into the walls while Leon threw a grappling hook.
Not trusting the hook, Aconite threw her whip fist after her partner and wrapped it around his waist.
Slowing his fall enough to prevent his momentum from breaking his back, Aconite snickered when Leon pulled out his Blacktail and said, "Won't fall for this old trick." before shooting a round into a hearing device.
Far above them, they heard Salazar roar in pain, "Aah! How dare you! No more games! Kill them!"
"Looks like you pissed him off, Leo," Aconite laughed as she lowered them down the hole and safely to the ground.
Seeing the bodies of the Castellan's previous victims of the trap door, Aconite sighed.
"Really, this guy is just one cliche after another," she muttered as the radio crackled to life.
So maybe you have nine lives. But it doesn't matter now, Mr. Kennedy! I've sent my right hand to dispose of you and your bitch.
"Your right hand comes off?" Leon snarked, pissed at the insult to his fiancee.
Say whatever you please. Die, you worm!
"You need anger management Nepolean." Aconite teased as she shut the radio off.
-Unknown location-
Saddler sat on his own throne in a room seemingly made of steel, looking down at Krauser, who knelt before him.
"It seems that Salazar is having difficulty taming the American pig. Salazar had his chance. Krauser, go get the girl. Oh, and dispose of this swine while you're at it. Capture Ms. Wesker as well."
The cult leader ordered, causing the former USSTRATCOM agent to stand.
"Consider it done."
-with Leon and Aconite-
Aconite found the bodyguard beyond easy to handle, it was fast, but she was faster.
Particularly when Leon knocked over a canister of liquid nitrogen freezing the Verdugo as she would later learn it was called.
Aconite took advantage of the creature's frozen state and consumed it.
Upon consuming the Verdugo, Aconite felt her virus shift in a way that warned her that she was developing a new ability.
She couldn't use it yet, wouldn't be able to until it fully developed.
She could tell it was a defensive ability, however.
Taking the elevator, they found Salazar waiting for them with his remaining bodyguard.
Seeing them, Salazar began clapping, "So nice you could join us, Mr. Scott Kennedy, Ms. Wesker."
"You again."
"You ready to die yet, Nepolean."
Salazar glared at Aconite for the jab at his height before smiling.
"The sacred rite that is about to begin at this tower will bestow the girl with magnificent power. She will join us, become one of us."
The Castellan informed them, making the agents tense.
"This is no ritual, this is terrorism." Leon hissed as Aconite raised a clawed hand.
"Isn't that a popular word these days? Not to worry, we've prepared a special ritual just for you,"
Salazar gloated as he raised his hand to trigger another trap.
He never got the chance, however, as Leon threw his combat knife, which embedded itself into Salazar's hand.
Salazar looked at the knife in his hand in disbelief, the pain setting in making him cry in pain.
"Heh," Leon shook his head at the man's whimpering as Aconite smirked.
Aconite rushed the little man only for the bodyguard to rip the knife out of his master's hand and throw it towards Leon's head.
Aconite threw her arm out in front of the knife, not reacting to it piercing her flesh as the Castellan and his guard boarded a lift, escaping to the top of the tower.
"Stop!" Leon roared as he took off up the staircase at Aconite's barked order.
Aconite could feel several Ganados rushing the tower, turning to the doors as she heard gunfire above her.
Pulling the knife from her arm she smiled at the arriving Ganados, bearing her teeth at them in a mockery of a smile.
"Let's play," Aconite cooed as the Ganados backed away from her, something in them warning her that a predator was before them and that it was hungry.
Leon winced as he heard the screams of the Ganados below him from his place at the top of the lift.
"Looks like Nite has reached the 'I'm tired and going to eat you all' stage," he muttered under his breath.
Silence rang through the air a few moments later before his fiancee's whip fist embedded in the ceiling above his head.
Aconite landed next to him, and Leon sighed at the state of her hair.
"Yes, I know," Aconite huffed in annoyance, her white hair was stained red with blood at the moment, and it'd be a bitch to get out later.
Seeing the Merchant waiting for them, Aconite gave the man a weary smile.
"You, sir, are impressive. You're not infected, are you?" She asked, knowing that the man wasn't from her 'infected' vision.
"No ma'am, I'm not, and thank you. What are ya buying?" the Merchant chuckled as he pulled open his cloak.
"A couple first aid sprays would be nice," Leon stated.
"I got two," the Merchant offered, taking the money from Aconite.
"Come back any time," the Merchant said as they opened the door to the tower room.
Inside they found a large flower-like creature attached to the walls Aconite was willing to bet was the plaga brood mother with Salazar and his bodyguard standing atop of an alter platform.
"Ah, you've just missed her. The ritual is over. She left with my men to an island."
Salazar mocked, waving his hands to flourish his words.
"What?!" Leon growled as Aconite summoned her hammer fists.
"I think it's time I paid my due respects towards your impressive and stubborn will, Mr. Kenndey, Ms. Wesker...welcome!"
Salazar cooed as he stood at the top of the altar, his arms extended to the sides as tentacles wrap around both him and his bodyguard.
Pulled into the brood mother, they merge with it, the Verdugo as a worm-like part while Salazar was in the heart of the brood mother.
The Verdugo part of the new creature lashes out, destroying the altar and blocking the exit.
"Leon," Aconite hissed as she stared at the eye on the Verdugo part, a giant target just like those infected with the G-virus.
"What are you thinking?"
"I'll handle the worm, Salazar is in the shell there and controlling the whole being. Thus, when the shell opens, open fire."
Aconite strategized, making him nod.
"Got it," Leon responded as he pulled out a mine thrower she assumed he'd bought from the Merchant at some point.
Salazar growled at them from within the shell, the Verdugo worm lashing out at them only for Aconite to punch it.
"Monsters. I guess after this, there'll be one less to worry about." Leon scoffed as the worm reared back, screeching at them.
It took them longer than they'd expected to destroy Salazar, costing Leon all the ammo he had for his Blacktail pistol, Striker shotgun, Broken Butterfly Magnum, Mine thrower, and TMP.
"Why didn't you use the semi-auto rifle?" Aconite questioned as they repelled down the side of the tower with a rope.
"Don't have that much ammo for it, and you never know when we'll run into more catapults." Leon shrugged as they looked around once they reached the ground.
Spotting an elevator, Aconite motioned to it.
"Good point. What are the chances that there's a dock nearby?"
"With our luck? Pretty strong."
Leon said as they searched.
After finding the dock, they found a speedboat, with Ada waiting for them behind the wheel.
"Need a ride, handsome?"
Ada offered causing Leon to holster his pistol they'd found some ammo for.
"Hmph. Okay..." Leon sighed as they joined her in the boat.
"Hey, Ada, what do you know about all this. Since my father sent you, I assume that you have more intel than we've gathered."
Aconite inquired over the roar of the waves causing Ada to glance at her.
"Sorry, but I don't kiss and tell." Ada chuckled as she jerked the wheel, jarring them as she parked the boat cliffside.
Ada stood, grabbing her grappling gun, aimed, and fired, looking down at them.
"Got some business to take care of. See you later." Ada said, pulling the trigger of her gun only for Aconite to grab onto her.
"Oh hell no! I'm coming with you, Ada! Leon, find Ashley!"
Aconite ordered as they zoomed off, the boat crashing into the cliff.
"Women," Leon sighed as he watched their forms shrink into the distance.
