Pancakes (fluff)
"Galinda. We can't move out yet" Elphaba's exasperated voice already tired of this.
"Well why not?" Came the whining response. Galinda had been wanting them to get their own place, and has been trying for months to get Elphaba to agree.
"We can't live of take-out" the blonde's back straightening not expecting that response, of all issues for it to be? "I can't cook my sweet and you've never cooked" she said it slowly as if Galinda was a child.
"First, don't talk to me like I'm stupid, you know I hate that and secondly I can cook" Elphaba couldn't stop her jaw from dropping. Her girlfriend, Galinda? No way the girl could cook her lips twitched. "Elphie I'm serious I just don't like doing it, but I can teach you" her voice was perky, but Elphaba noticed the tightening of her girlfriend's jaw and her eyes slightly narrowed. Realising Elphaba wasn't going to talk, the blonde continued. "You know my parents Elphie, you've met them and you get along great with them I love that. But it took them a long time to get there, and thats not because you're different. It's because with you, I never have to be perfect and I also didn't need to be housewife which thank Oz. It's a nice idea, but when your mother spends hours everyday showing you how to clean, how to cook, demanding you to read books to help understand to take care of your hard-working 'husband' there's no fun. I grew to hate cooking, like absolutely despise it" she stopped, taking a deep breath "but if that's the only or the main concern for not moving in together? Then I'm happy to cook and teach you to cook" Galinda finished, sitting down. Whilst she tried not to complain about her childhood especially in front of Elphaba, it was something that always bothered her.
"You can cook" Galinda looked up at Elphaba slightly annoyed, she was hoping for a better response than that.
"Yes I can cook Elphaba oh my Oz!" The green skin girl must've realised how annoyed her girlfriend was becoming, so she sat down next to her, grabbing her hand and gently kissing. "I'm not a housewife Elphie, I don't want to be, I am designing buildings for Oz sake but I can cook" Elphaba must of heard the reluctance in her voice because she was pulled gently onto her lap.
"Well I'm glad I don't want a housewife than, because this would be awkward" Galinda giggled hearing the humor in her girlfriend's voice. "If you teach me how to cook than we can split the job so we both eat substantially and also get to live how strong independent woman lives" the cheesy grin was enough to make the girl in her lap laugh loudly and wrap her arms around her neck.
"Sometimes I hate that Fiyero showed you Beyonce because you did not make the line smooth as it is" smiling gently as Elphaba pouted "but tomorrow, I'll teach you okay?" She rolled her eyes when all she got was an excited nod from her girlfriend.
The next morning found the couple in the kitchen, with the blonde trying to show Elphaba make pancakes. "Elphie baby that's salt, why didn't you read it?" Only getting grumbles in response "2 eggs Elphie seriously? You are the smartest woman I know yet following a recipe book is hard or listening to me is hard." Whilst Galinda was slightly frustrated, she was hungry who can blame her. She did find it adorable, her girlfriend had her tongue sticking out in concentration and her brows furrowed. For the first time, the blonde found herself enjoying cooking, all thanks to her green girl. Lost in thought, she didn't hear Elphaba speaking.
"Huh? Sorry darling?" Pulling Elphaba close.
"Mixure is done how do I cook it for?" She smiled at the small smirk on her face.
"Spoon a small amount into the hot pan, and wait until air bubbles appear on top and then flip they don't take long." They were easy instructions, well so Galinda thought. She spun around to start cleaning up the sink and counter when she heard a quiet curse and a distinct smell of burning. She was quick to react, moving Elphaba carefully out the way, standing between her and well a black pancake, well what should be a pancake. Turning the heat off she started again, all while her girlfriend stood back and watched.
"I'm sorry"
"You okay?"
Smiles exchanged at that, Galinda nodded, indicating for Elphaba to speak first.
"I'm sorry I got impatient and I know we're both hungry so I thought I could turn the heat up and make it go quicker" Elphaba didn't like to fail, she has always been a quick study, but now she's let her girlfriend down. She walked into Galinda's open arms, she thought at first the blonde was crying, but she looked up and frowned when she saw she was holding back a laugh. Offended she pushed her gently away, turning to leave the kitchen, was stopped with hand on her wrist.
"Relax love, it's okay, everyone has a weakness, and yours just seems to be a safety hazard" it seemed that the blonde was genuinely having a good time even if it was at Elphaba's expense. "Why don't we try again? I'll watch the whole time" she felt a kiss pressed against her cheek, she looked at her happy girlfriend before nodding and moving to start again. This time the younger girl holding her from behind, helping her when she needed.
"And flip onto the plate, and you're done" it may seem silly but Elphaba was proud of herself, she beamed at the blonde, her confidence boosting. "Well done Elphie, see a natural" Smirking they managed to make another five pancakes, three each, elphaba was confused when Galinda said the job wasn't done.
"You've got to decorate silly" her bubbly demeanour making the older girl smile. Once they were done the two sat down, chatting away, Galinda started to eat her breakfast, frowning when she it didn't taste like pancakes. Elphaba noticed immediately.
"What's wrong?" It took a minute for Galinda to realise what was wrong with it, she started laughing loudly, tears forming she could barely speak. Once she calmed down she looked over at Elphaba letting out another giggle. "Baby, did you end up swapping the salt back to sugar like I told you?" And Elphaba threw a pancake at the wall, the blonde cracked up again, Elphaba couldn't help but join in. And Galinda had never enjoyed cooking more.
