Colour is everything (hurt/comfort)
Elphaba should've been use to this by now. But it still hurt. Everytime. She couldn't help the way she was born. But she was still a person, she deserved to be loved, but no-one not even her own family loved her, just because she was green.
She stupidly believed that staying at Shiz would change that. She was wrong. They looked at like she was disease, like she was less than human. Dr Dillamond is the only friend she's got, she hides in corners of the library, she tucks herself against the wall in her bed, staying clear of her loud roomate.
Galinda.
One of the main instigator of her tormentors, she never got a break from her. Although she was quieter when in their room, she just refused to acknowledge her and that somehow hurt even more.
It was easy for Elphaba to put on a face of indifference, she had heard all the insults before, but she still felt like breaking down every day.
She was surprised though when Galinda invited her to the Ozdust Ballroom with them, she should've known better. But she got ready, hope fluttering around in her stomach, she smiled lightly as she changed into her nicest dress. And put the hat on her head. She knew the hat wasn't the nicest looking thing, but Galinda was all about fashion so she would know if it looked good or not on her. So with a bit of excitement she tried to minimise she boarded the boat with Madam Morrible and off they went to the dance.
It was all a cruel prank. As soon as she walked in, she wanted to turn back around and leave. The music stopped, and people stopped and stared. She couldn't let them know, she felt shattered, she should've known better. No-one wants to hang out with the green freak, she thought, her heart breaking, yet again the cruel whispers and cutting laughter, made her want to shrivel up and cry. But she couldn't. So she kept walking to the centre, a face of indifference, they didn't need to see that this affected her.
As the crowd split, she spotted blonde, slightly curled hair, who looked on, quickly hiding the wand behind her. Elphaba scoffed in her head, of course it was all because of her. The silence echoed around her when she started to do a somewhat dance. It was the first dance she had ever been to, and it was all for a prank. As she dance she noticed Galinda was speaking softly to Fiyero, she then stepped forward. She took a step back, of course Galinda was going to step in and twist the knife in further. She watched in trepidation, as the blonde tried to mimic her, looking way too awkward whilst doing so. The green girl thought she was being made fun of her again, but was shocked when the blonde turned away from her friends, then hesitantly, asking Elphaba to dance with with her unspoken. Together they danced, Galinda following her lead, she felt a gentle hand touch her cheek, whilst wiping a tear that fell. She heard the quiet 'It's alright' from the blonde. The words were laces with more, unspoken reassuring her that she was sorry and that everything will be okay for her now. They continued to dance, not realising the others had joined, eyes only on eachother Elphaba found herself enveloped in a tight hug. She let herself sink into the strong arms of the blonde, giving into the first kind touch since dulicbear. She couldn't help the few tears that dropped from her eyes letting pain, grief and heartbreak leave her system even just for a little bit. They broke apart, light giggles leaving their lips, Elphaba felt a tug on her arm, as Galinda led them out of the Ozdust.
It was silent on the boat back to Shiz, silent until the blonde spoke.
"I am sorry Elphaba, truly, there's no excuse for what I've done. It was ignorant and I want to change that. But I will need help to change my thinking, if you don't mind helping?" Elphaba was taken aback by the soft way the blonde spoke but she sounded sincere. Elphaba just smiled and nodded.
Hours later, Elphaba, had become Elphie to the blonde and she was feeling once again a little hurt. The blonde wanted to make her popular, she tried changing everything about her. Elphaba really thought she could make a friend who didn't care about the green. It wasn't until Galinda sat her down in front of the vanity, and place a pink flower in her hair. Pink goes well with green both thought as Elphaba saw herself in the mirror for the first time in years. Just herself, green skin and all just with a flower, and Galinda spoke gently telling her she was beautiful. And for once she had no idea what to say.
