Chapter 1
when damian had suggested to look up "dating sites" on the web. janis immediately said "no" with a deadpanned face and monotone voice as she went back to sketching in her sketchbook.
damian scoffed as he smiled, shaking his head, janis had cleared that idea out of the way fast. she was fine by herself, she didn't need a girlfriend or anything like that.
she just needed damian and cady. however, it seems that both of her friends have boyfriends now!! cady has aaron, and damian is seeing some buff hairy guy named Cliff."
so lately, janis has been tagging along as the "third wheel" to all of their dates and stuff. which is why damian had suggested for janis to look up some dating sites for her, to find someone and stop third wheeling.
cady also suggested it'd be fun, maybe for janis to have a bit of fun and explore the dating pool because it was senior year!! some casual dates or hookups would be fun. get janis ready for some possible relationships in college, etc
janis cringed at cady's comments every single time. she thought it was gross to think about that sort of stuff. she was still a virgin. she's barely ever talked to a girl, yet alone do anything like that.
it was 2005 in Illinois, and there was no way in hell that a girl would ever want to talk to janis. all of the girls in northshore were mostly all straight. all of them gave janis disgusted looks and stares.
the thought of dating a girl was occasional for janis. She didn't really care much. but she wouldn't mind holding a specific hand or lay next to her or kiss her
janis had a crush on a girl, the girl that janis had a crush on was nobody's business - not even damian or cady’s business. besides, the girl was straight, and most of the time, janis could hardly stand the girl. so there was no reason for even telling anyone. because it wouldn't happen yet alone, even work.
it had seemed that damian's and cady’s words had somehow got to janis’s head. because she sat there at her messy desk at 10pm. sketching in her sketchbook, repeating the same lines over and over again.
slowly getting more and more frustrated with herself as she kept erasing and redrawing the same lines over and over again, her pencil snapped in half with how much she kept pressing down on the paper.
Janis groaned in frustration as she dropped the pencil down on her sketchbook and pushed her book aside as she rested her head on the desk as she sighed heavily as she sat there for a few moments.
questioning and wondering if exploring a bit online for a girlfriend or something wouldn't hurt a bit. maybe she'd get over her stupid crush.
Janis head lazily went up as she stared at the screen for a bit before scooting towards the computer and grabbing the small note that damian wrote for her, it was a couple of links for gay dating sites for her.
she couldn't believe she was about to actually do this. It was something she'd judge and laugh at. she nervously kept clicking the mouse repeatedly as she stated at the site in front of her.
it was a normal looking site as she scrolled down and clicked on stuff. Most of these women were in their 20s-30s- what did janis expect. it's not like anyone her age would actually be on here.
Janis shrugged it off as she clicked throughout some of the profiles. It seemed boring for the most part. she wasn't
exactly enthusiastic or excited about all of this. just bored.
until this old blonde woman who was almost her mom's age appeared on the screen. janis didn't know what exactly caught her attention. she just passed a bunch of older women on here.
Janis furrowed her brows as she leaned slowly back in her chair as she chewed on her pencil as she viewed the women's profile.
old blonde who seemed to be old money apparently, recently divorced. wants some company.
janis sat there for a second before clicking "interested" with the little green thumbs up button. there was a message option that appeared afterward..
the shift in the room changed as a notification suddenly appeared from the old woman who simply said "hey"
janis sat there in her chair at her desk in absolute silence.
