You can say that we're nothing but yk the truth

It was a late evening, the darkness outside felt cold, and the room was dimly lit with only the bedside table lamps to add some light to the darkness. Glinda was on Elphaba's bed, their legs sandwiched inbetween the blonde haired girl who was towering over them, giving multiple gentle kisses on their forehead and neck. Elphaba's breath hitched at the simple feeling of Glinda's touch on her neck, still not being fully used to physical contact, especially from the most popular girl at Shiz.

"Just relax, Elphie," the blonde reassured, carefully caressing their cheekbones. Elphaba’s breath caught in their throat, the warmth of Glinda’s hand a contrast to the cool air pressing against their skin. Their eyes fluttered shut as a tremor raced down their spine, unaccustomed to such softness. Glinda's hands felt like magic, sending a wave of heat to her cheeks, making them turn a deeper shade of green. "Do you like that, Elphie?" she asked, placing a kiss on Elphaba's lips. Elphaba was too flustered to say anything, their heart pounding in their chest which was rising and falling rapidly with how quick they were breathing. "Mmhm," they nodded.

Before Glinda could do anything else, they both heard footsteps approaching, and seconds later Pfannee and Shenshen burst into the room. "Glinda!! We have a major-" Pfannee paused for a second, studying the tense atmosphere and closed distance between the two roommates. "What's going on here?" He asked, looking back and forth between the two.

"Nothing!" Glinda protested, pushing herself off Elphaba and straightening her dress, which was already perfect as is. She regained her composure, and spoke again, "You see, poor Elphie here had a really nastifying eyelash stuck in their eye. I was simply being helpful and taking the dreadful thing out for her," she explained.

"Them." Elphaba corrected, too cowardly to look Glinda in the eye after what had just happened.

"Right, yes, sorry, them."

"I see." Shenshen replied, seemingly not fully convinced. "Anyways. Glinda, you HAVE to come with us, this is important!"

"Oh dear Oz! What happened?"

"No time to explain. Just come," commanded Pfannee.

"Oh, alright! Just wait for me outside and I'll be there in a moment!"

As Shenshen and Pfannee stepped outside, Elphaba turned to Glinda with a glare. "What was that?!"

"Oh, I'm sure it's something important. Or else they wouldn't have come in so abruptly."

"No, Glinda. That's not what I meant."

Glinda shot her a confused look, clearly not understanding what they were meaning. Elphaba just sighed in response, mentally preparing themself for what was about to take place.  "I mean what was this," they asked, gesturing between the two of them. "Why did you just kiss me and act as if it was nothing?"

"Oh Oz, Elphie, you know how things are. I have to keep everything... right. People wouldn’t understand this. They’d never...” Her voice drifted off, struggling to find the right words to say. "Look, Elphie. It was simply just a few kisses, that's all. Don't all girls kiss their friends?" Glinda’s words were light, but her voice wavered. "It’s just... what friends do! How they show their love and appreciation."

"Friends." Elphaba thought, feeling their heart drop to the floor. They swallowed hard, the lump in their throat making it difficult to speak. "You think this is just what friends do?" Their voice trembled, but there was a sharp edge to it. "I’ve never kissed a friend like that before. I've never wanted to! You can say that we are 'nothing,' Glinda, but you know the truth!"

Glinda’s laugh came too quickly, brittle and hollow. "Elphie, don’t be dramatic. It’s just a kiss. That’s how girls show affection. Why make it something bigger than it is?" But her eyes lingered on Elphaba’s face, her hand twitching as if she wanted to reach out but didn’t.

"You know what, Glinda, you’re so good at making everything look perfect," Elphaba whispered, their voice sharp with pain. "Perfect hair, perfect clothes, perfect lies. But I’m not a secret you can pretend didn’t happen." Glinda opened her mouth to speak but stopped, something fragile and raw flickering in her eyes before she turned away. She swallowed hard and bit her lip, "Just forget it."

As she stepped toward the door, Glinda cast a quick glance over her shoulder. "You’re the most confusifying person I’ve ever met," she muttered to herself, just enough for Elphaba to hear. But, before Elphaba could respond, she was gone.

After leaving Pfannee and Shenshen, Fiyero took Glinda's hand as they walked through campus, smiling as if they were meant to be together. Glinda matched his grin, but her mind was elsewhere—thinking of green hands that felt warm, steady, and real. She pulled her hand back with a nervous laugh, pretending to fix her hair, her chest tightening with the lie.

"This is what I’m supposed to want," she reminded herself. "A boy. A future. Perfect Glinda. Perfect life." But as she leaned into Fiyero’s embrace, the weight of her mask crushed her. She couldn’t stop thinking of Elphaba’s touch, the way their heart had beat against hers. She wanted that more than anything—and she hated herself for it

When Glinda came back, Elphaba watched as Fiyero escorted her into the room, giving her a kiss on the lips goodbye. It made Elphaba feel sick. "Fiyero, huh? That’s a good choice. He’s perfect for you. Handsome. Rich. He won’t ever make things complicated."

Glinda flinched but forced a smile. "He’s... nice. He makes me laugh."

"I bet he does," Elphaba muttered, turning away. "You deserve all the perfect, easy things, Glinda." The words hit her like a slap, but she stayed silent. She wanted to explain, to tell Elphaba it wasn’t real, that Fiyero was just another part of the illusion she had built for herself, her supposedly perfect life. But no one would understand. No one would ever understand her.
