Harry Potter the Geek of Hogwarts
So this year, other than Harry Potter discovering the dark side of the internet, after the Sorting but before the feast, Dumbledore had announced that their school was taking part of a Student Exchange Program, in order to promote better relations with other wizarding communities across the world. In this case, it was a young man, legally an adult as his age is eighteen years.
Only the purebloods of Slytherin sneer or ignore the foreign American teen, while everyone else were curious about him as he took a seat at one of the free spots at Gryffindor Table. He was not sorted, because his professors at his other school before the start of the year had asked the faculty at the castle to place him in a room above the ground.
And thus, Gryffindor was the perfect choice for him.
Of course, it's gone somewhat uneventful as the days went by, and the seasons changed from Fall to Winter, then Spring. Other than a small incident that almost turned international (Umbridge accusing David of being a Squib; this was before her poisoning and subsequent transfer to St. Mungos) nothing else happened involving the foreign bloke from the colonies.
Today, we find Harry minding his own business, wishing he was not cut off from the internet, but the stupid castle had to be built on top of two different Leylines, making electronics almost inoperable in such magic-heavy environments. Coupled with the fact that there were many excuses about how muggle technology would not work around magic, Harry was... bored. He missed the porn, mostly, but also missed killing n00bs on his online gaming he loved to play on the PC.
It would be a few more weeks until student in their final years of Hogwarts, and fifth years study for their upcoming important OWLs and NEWTs testing. And he was bored...
"I wonder why that American bloke hardly talks with any of the students in the school," Harry overhears Seamus say to Dean as the two boys enter Gryffindor Tower. Harry still talks to them now and then, but he was an avid PC gamer, while Seamus and Dean were console boys. PC was better than consoles, any day.
Seamus looks to his friend. "What room does he have? He doesn't bunk with the older boys in Gryffindor."
"Maybe he has his own room since he's an exchange student or something," Dean theorized.
"Someone call my name?"
The boys jumped, and Harry blinked. This also caught Hermione's attention from the book she was reading from. Ron was winning at Wizard's Chess again versus Neville. There stood David Abbott, the American exchange student from a private school called Sunnyvale Academy.
Where did he come from?
"Hey David, what are you doing in your dorm room when you're not attending classes?" Seamus asks the older teen.
"I'm in my room keeping myself occupied with the outside world. You know... I normally never tell anyone here, but I have internet. Also fun to lose yourself on Tumblr from time to time, like Harry Potter does."
"Wait, what about the internet?" Harry speaks up, hearing his name.
"Trust me, Potter, there's more to gaming than just computers. In my opinion, a true gamer would have tried various different games across all systems that can play games. And yes, I have heard you from time to time make complaints or mutter to yourself regarding being cut off from the wonders of the internet."
Hermione snickered a bit, catching a soft glare from the green-eyed wizard in response.
"Well, David is right," stated Hermione, "you DO complain and bicker to me about it."
David walks past the group and beckons him and his friends to follow. "Come. I'll show you my bunk."
Curious, and frankly most of them wondering why other than attending his selected classes at Hogwarts he spends most of his time in his own personal room given to him by the Headmaster, follow after him into the boys' side of the dorm, up the long route of stairs, until stopping before the last door. Harry, Hermione, and Ron were together, considering they don't split up except when it comes to studying or the boys enjoying Quidditch, Neville followed only because he was also curious about the older boy and Dean and Seamus followed after the group because the American intrigued the duo.
"Wait, Professor Dumbledore let you stay in the Head Boy's dorm room?" Hermione asks David, realizing what door they were crowding at specifically.
"Is that what it's called? Mister Dumbledore just told me to go to this room in Gryffindor Tower, saying that a House Elf would have all of my things brought to it."
He then opens the door.
Inside, the Head Student room was larger than the other bunk rooms of Gryffindor Tower. The size of the room would contribute to being bigger than the common room. There was a large queen-sized bed in one corner of the room, a dresser nearby, and a writing desk next to a closed door (likely the bathroom) with two different tables around. The room has two windows with decorative drapes and curtains hung. The color scheme was different from the normal Gryffindor colors or gold and maroon red. The room was a light pastel blue along the walls with decorative greens, reds, and purples of vines and roses. The carpet was replaced with forest green, and the curtains were green and blue silk.
Now here's where it gets really interesting: as they enter inside the room, the teens could see David had a large flat-screen monitor, easily a thirty inch 1080p TV, hung on the wall next to the door leading out to the stairs. Wires were connected to it, which were hooked up to a PlayStation 3, an Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii U, and Nintendo Wii. This guy has FOUR different gaming consoles! Opposite the wall where the flat screen TV was hung, was a large plush velvet maroon couch. One of the tables by the couch had a computer monitor and a desktop PC, and a closed laptop sitting on the couch. These two had various cables wired all around.
The plug in sources led to what looked like installed blocks of crystal with engraved runes and bits of metal plating seen inside the translucent pearl pink crystal. And seen hung outside of one of the windows (with a hole and sealant used) was a wire leading to a small satellite dish, which is connected to a splitter, one leading to the TV, the other lined along the wall (to stay out of sight) connecting towards the desktop PC.
"Bloody hell! What is all this stuff?" Dean exclaims.
"My things I brought with me from America; a desktop PC, my personal laptop, and my gaming consoles. When I'm not busy with the school work from Hogwarts, and catching up on studies back home in Iowa in the U.S., I'm just spending my time online."
"But how does this work? Hogwarts can't support muggle stuff," said Seamus.
David in response grabs the remote and turns the TV on, and the first channel that pops up was BBC. Currently there was a Doctor Who marathon playing. David was a fan of Doctor Who.
"Apparently while its true non-magical things will likely short out when in magic heavy areas like this school, there's companies in America and Japan that deal with magic-proofing non-magical technology. One of the known brands is called Magi-Tech. Only the best techno wizards and techno witches work around magic insulation products for technology. I believe this is something most magicals in Europe would despise because they would be proven wrong on the fact magic can work around non-magical technology."
David then flips to one of his HDMI channels and turns on his PS3.
"Of course, technology can still short out when exposed to too much magical energy, but with the use of the Mag-Crystal Plugs, the blocks of pink crystal you see in squares in the wall, they act like a magical version of an electric plug outlet. The runes and such they use for the crystal will insulate the harmful side of magic on electronics, and poof, a magical way of powering up devices when you live in a wizard-heavy house hold. I'd go into more details, but it's too complicated to understand unless you've read up Magi-Tech's stuff on the internet."
"Wait, a magical company has a website on the internet?" Hermione questioned the American teen.
"Confusing, but yes, they do."
"Blimey! You're Sekai Ishtal online?" exclaims Dean, seeing the username on the PS3.
David grins, as he goes to his digital games content and starts up Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. "Yeah. I am somewhat known on the internet and some gaming circles. Why are you surprised?"
"You keep beating us in races on Grand Theft Auto Online," said Seamus.
"Oh? Gamer tag?"
"BackToTheWizard007," said Seamus.
"Br1ght-Zer0," Dean answers next. "Zero has the number zero replacing the letter O, then replace the letter I with one in bright," Dean clarifies.
"Huh, so you're the trolls belonging to the Black Zephyr gang. How fun was it getting smashed by a guy who had a Rainbow Dash tat on his exposed chest?"
"Hey!" the two boys exclaim. David belonged to the Triad Ponies gang.
"So, you belong to the Triad Ponies?" Seamus inquires once the jibe at their gaming skills was dropped.
David would smirk. "Yeah. Who else would go on saying he's a member of the Lunar Guards right before your bounty gets collected by yours truly? And yes I am a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic."
Harry was still shocked. The older boy had internet this whole time. "You had working internet in Hogwarts this entire time?" he asks.
"Yeah. Like I said, I've heard your mutterings from time to time, kid. Really funny. You miss fapping to porn or something?"
Harry broke into a stammering blush, trying to deny it, even though David WAS correct in a sense. Poor Ron and Neville were just confused on everything, being they were magic-raised children and didn't know much about the muggle world. And Hermione... she was still shocked all the muggle technology was working in Hogwarts. She has been told muggle technology wouldn't work in Hogwarts because of all the magic, but here this American teen had working consoles, a TV... and a computer! And it was on (albeit in sleep mode)!
"No one knows of this and I'd like to keep it this way. I don't know about any of you, but that woman Delorus Umbridge reminds me of a nasty bitch you want to avoid at all costs when walking down a deserted alleyway in the back streets of London."
The boys all break out into roaring laughs. Only Hermione would frown, even though she secretly agreed the woman was a horrid old shrewd.
"I'm just glad she's no longer in the school. I think she hates anyone not pureblood or British-born," David would go on, finishing his spoken thought about the woman who liked too much pink. He continues where he left off last time when he played Assassins Creed IV.
"Wait... I'm sure I remember that name Sekai Ishtal before," Hermione mutters, catching David's attention.
"You read fanfiction?"
"Sometimes," she says.
"Ever read any Daniel Radcliffe stories written by someone named Sweet Kagamine Kiss?"
Hermione blinked, as David's smile grew wider.
"Yes, I'm Sweet Kagamine Kiss on FanFiction dot Net," he tells Hermione when it came to the girl she was meeting the person behind the Radcliffe fanfics.
Yes, in this story, to replace the Harry Potter fanfiction, we have Daniel Radcliffe fanfiction. For more reverse universe information, check out references to this idea in chapter three of Harry Potter and the 20XX Story.
Now, back to the story, Harry broke into another blush; he's read SKK's "adult works".
David pause his game for a moment before he opens his laptop – which showed it was in sleep mode – and waits for the monitor to light up. After logging on (he didn't use a password on his laptop), he returns to the Rockstar Social website and was on the Triad Ponies crew page.
He makes a post on the Triad Ponies crew page: "I know I should be busy with school work, but too busy lurking Los Santos."
Then he returns to escaping the Jäger soldiers as he was fully notorious and was trying to acquire the trophy involving these super-hard enemies that literally warp out of nowhere in the open world map.
"So... Potter, if you want to use the internet go ahead. However, do not disturb anything I have open up, and no messing around with the settings. And make sure your hands are clean," David informs the Boy-Who-Lived.
Hermione face palms as her best friend was already sitting down at the teen's computer..
"So... how does this stuff really work? I thought muggle stuff didn't work around magic?" asks Ron. He was curious about all of this muggle stuff in the room.
"Rune magic mostly, and more stuff that I really don't feel like regurgitating because it somewhat hurts my mind to understand high tech mumbo-jumbo. But if Miss Granger is as smart as she leads on, she'll likely figure out and understand."
Hermione blushed a bit at the praise, before leaving stating she had some leftover class work to finish up. Ron got bored eventually of all the praise his friends were declaring the American bloke and asked Neville if he wanted a rematch in chess. Neville and Ron both left the dorm room.
"Dean, Seamus, do you two play Halo?" the American would ask the two boys. The smiles he received spoke loud.
And Harry was ignored as he was on one of his favorite forum websites to visit.
