Back To Hogwarts With A Surprise
Harry was on the train to Hogwarts once again, he sat beside the window, Ron and Hermione sitting opposite of him, Ron with his arm around Hermione. Harry looked out the window while waiting for the train to take off.
He wasn't too thrilled to be going back to Hogwarts where the war had taken place only a few months prior. It held so many memories to him, good and bad. He almost didn't go but before he could decide not to go Hermione had dragged him to platform 9 and 3/4.
The train whistled, signalling that it was taking off now and began pulling out of the station.
Harry's emerald eyes watched as the trees passed, growing more nervous to return to Hogwarts and finally tell his friends everything. He grew more nervous by the minute. He played with the silver ring on his left-hand middle finger, easing his nerves slightly.
The compartment door opened but Harry ignored it, keeping his eyes to the scenery passing out the window, thinking that it was some new first years wanting to meet the famous Harry Potter.
Harry watched Hermione out of the corner of his eye turn to the door about to tell some kid to run along but she stopped. She crossed her arms and Ron turned to face the door as well, a scowl growing on his face.
"What do you want?" Ron growled.
The person in the door let out a small breath, making it almost sound like they had been running. "Harry." The familiar voice breathed.
Ron and Hermione turned to face Harry, looks of confusion on their faces by the use of his first name from who was standing in the doorway.
Harry's face broke into a smile knowing exactly who spoke, he turned to face the doorway where Draco was standing.
"Draco!" Harry quickly got up, and practically tackled Draco with a hug.
Draco hugged him back tightly as Harry buried his face in Draco's neck, "I missed you." Harry whispered, "I missed you too." Draco whispered back, "let's sit down, your friends are gonna want an explanation, they're kinda giving me dirty looks too." The two chuckled, pulling apart to sit down, Harry linking their hands together in the process.
"Bloody hell!" Ron said bewildered.
Hermione just sat there with her jaw hanging open, staring at the two across from her.
Harry rubbed the back of his neck with his free hand, a light blush creeping over his face.
"Guess we should start from the beginning." Harry sighed a bit and Draco squeezed his hand gently.
"Before the war, back in 5th year, uhm, we came to a truce, and around halfway through the year we got together-" Harry was cut off, "-TOGETHER! As in dating?!" Ron exclaimed, going pale.
"Yes, Weasley, as in dating." Draco chuckled slightly.
"And then before I knew it I had to leave him behind while we went hunting Horcruxes. That's also why he didn't give me away to Bellatrix when the snatchers caught us and brought us to Malfoy manor. We did our best to keep our relationship a secret, not wanting any more on our plate than we already had from everything that was going on.
"After the war was over, I went to the ministry for Draco's and his mom's hearing, saying they were both innocent, 'cause they both helped us out, and they were just put on house arrest, part of Draco's probation was to come to Hogwarts for his 8th year though.
"But on August 16th, during one of my many, many, visits to see Draco and his mom, Draco pulled me for a walk through the garden at Malfoy manor while his mom was busy cooking dinner and he-" Harry stuttered slightly as he began to blush again.
"Seeing as we are both legal age, and have stuck with each other through everything, thick and thin, and always had a shoulder for the other to cry on, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him." Harry chuckled nervously holding up his left hand, which was holding onto Draco's, to show the two sitting across from him the ring on his middle finger, Draco holding up his left hand as well to show them the matching ring that was also on his left-hand middle finger.
Hermione and Ron were both silent for a long while. Processing the new information.
"Bloody hell this explains a lot." Ron breathed, slumping in the chair. "That explains the almost no owls from you over the summer," Hermione said. "And your obsession with him during 6th year." Ron and Hermione laughed, making Harry and Draco laugh as well. "Also explains why you ran after Draco as soon as the war was over," Ron stated.
Hermione jumped up from her seat and hugged Harry and Draco. "Congratulations! I'm so happy for you two." She pulled away from the two, "thanks 'mione." Harry smiled, "thanks, Granger." Draco smiled at her. Hermione sat back down and Ron stood up, pulling Harry into a manly hug. "Congrats mate." Ron grinned pulling away, he turned to face Draco and put a hand out for him to shake, "welcome to the family." He nodded as Draco shook his hand.
Ron sat back down, putting an arm back around Hermione, "do you two have an idea for when it's going to be?" Hermione asked.
"We were thinking shortly after we graduated," Draco said softly, "speaking of, I have to go get Pansy and Blaize for this part. I'll be right back." Draco chuckled, giving Harry a quick kiss on the cheek before leaving the compartment.
Draco came back a few minutes later, sitting back down beside Harry, linking their hangs back together. Pansy, who had a large smile on her face, sat down beside Draco while Blaize sat down beside Hermione.
"Cmon Harry, you said you wanted to ask first so ask." Draco nudged him, playfully rolling his eyes.
Harry cleared his throat, looking over to Ron, "Ron, would you be my best mate and my best man?" He asked. Ron smiled widely, "are you kidding? I would be honoured mate."
"Blaize, would you be my best mate and my best man?" Draco asked, trying to contain his smile. "It would be my pleasure, your highness," Blaize smirked, making us all laugh.
"Who's gonna be the ring bearer? Do you know?" Pansy asked after some quiet chatter, "Harry wants it to be his godson; Teddy." Draco shrugged, putting his fingers through the, now sleeping, brunet’s messy hair.
Harry had fallen asleep not too long ago and had his head resting on Draco's shoulder, everyone chatting quietly with one another, not wanting to wake him.
They pulled into the station near Hogwarts. "Harry, c;mon we’re here, you have to get up." Draco said gently. Harry's emerald eyes fluttered open, immediately catching Draco's silver eyes. Draco smiled softly, helping Harry to his feet, Harry leaning on Draco as they made it to the thestral pulled carriages.
When they entered the great hall, eyes turned to them as they made their way to the new 8th-year table. Draco heard who sounded like McGonagall say something like "I still owe Albus pounds, even after his death" and he laughed at the thought of the new headmistress and one of the old headmasters making a bet on Harry and Draco's love life.
Ron and Hermione sat down beside Harry. Pansy and Blaize sitting opposite of them, then Neville sat down beside Draco, surprising him a bit.
"Peculiar," Neville said, Draco chuckled, "what?" He asked.
"Peculiar seeing you too like this." Neville shrugged slightly. "Then this might be a little more 'peculiar' for you," Draco said, lowering his voice slightly, putting his left hand on the table so Neville could see the ring on his middle finger.
Neville went quiet for a minute before smiling softly, "peculiar indeed." He chuckled. "Congrats. Am I allowed to say?" He asked, "not until the last month of school, at least." Neville nodded, "again, congrats, I wish you both the best." He said softly before getting up and going to sit with Luna Lovegood, who was sat beside Ginny Weasley at the Gryffindor table.
"Granger?" Blaize suddenly asked.
Hermione looked over to him, giving him a look to continue. "Do you know where the 8th years will be?" He asked.
"No, but I think McGonagall will tell us after the feast. Why?" Hermione explained, Blaize shrugged, "just curious, 'cause it looks like Harry's attached to Draco's hip at the moment." He chuckled, "Harry's lost a lot of people, so he kinda has attachment issues, that's probably why he's attached to Draco's hip." She smiled softly, looking at Harry and Draco, who were chatting quietly with one another.
Soon the feast was over and McGonagall returned to the podium, "follow your prefects to get to your common rooms, 8th years, please follow me." She announced.
McGonagall led the 8th years down a bunch of corridors until she stopped just outside a painting of a hippogriff, "porridge." She said and the painting swung open revealing a common room full of every house's colour, the sofa being a soft red, blue pillows lay across it, a yellow rug and green curtains covering the window.
"Girls to the right, boys to the left. You do not have a curfew, however, if you are to go out past everyone else's curfew, I would like to know where you're going." Everyone nodded and she left them to get settled in.
Blaize went to the hall where the boy's dormitory where, "looks like McGonagall made an exception for you two!" He chuckled, "everyone else has their own dorm, but Draco and Harry share one." He poked his head around the corner to look at everyone.
"Make sure to use silencing charms," Pansy remarked, getting comfy on the couch.
Harry and Draco went red, "obviously. Jeez, you're so dirty Pansy." Draco rolled his eyes, nudging Pansy. "So I've been told." She smirked.
"Whatever," Draco chuckled, "good night everyone." He said bringing Harry with him to their dorm.
Draco closed the door as soon as they walked in and Harry flopped onto the bed, "you alright?" Draco asked. "Yeah, Ron and 'mione, along with everyone else we told took the news way better than expected." He chuckled lightly as Draco sat down beside him, "I at least expected your friends to flip out more than just Ron yelling when he found out we got together." Harry hummed in response.
Draco smiled softly, leaning down and kissing Harry before getting changed. Harry smiled, getting changed as well.
Draco got under the covers with Harry snuggling up next to him, kissing him on the cheek, "I love you, Draco." Harry whispered, "I love you too, Harry." Draco replied quietly.
Both falling into a peaceful sleep in each other's arms.
